I am really amazed that he has seen the contract and can state exactly what Varane is earning. Because if Varane only made £300k a week - the total cost would be about the same as Pepe - which wouldn't have the story quite as good for him :)
I doubt anybody “external” knows the exact figures, but these are in line with what has been reported before and are probably not too far off.

It was reported that we offered him €12m NET a year.
12m euros are around 10m GBP. 10m GBP NET a year are about 20m GBP gross.
Assuming a 40% tax rate:
€20m Gross = €12m Net.
£17m Gross = £10m Net.

£17m * 5 = £85m.

I doubt we are offering him that much anyway. It has to be €12m Gross.

20 m Sterling in wages per year would be circa 460k euro a week, why do folk bollox on about stuff they know nothing about.

We got a fantastic defender who will improve us, and that's pure gravy.

Is he actually good? There's surely a reason Real Madrid are willing to let him go, is he an upgrade on what we have at present?

Because he has a year left on his contract and doesn’t want to extend. Simple

There is a fee owed to Lens because they developed Varane at their academy. On a transfer this size it will be a couple million. So they haggled over who would cover that amount. It’s just one of the more minor details that have to be negotiated.
I think it's mandated by FIFA.
As per FIFA rules, clubs are required to pay a small portion(s) of the transfer fee to the player's previous club(s) that were involved his education and development. From FIFA's Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players:

The mechanism:
Yes, but only if we can get two midfielders. If we're only getting in a DM, I'd rather keep Pogba.
Thanks.

Yeah I meant gross, he'll be on probably 250k to 300k max, which is anything between about 10 and 15 mill gross, ain't no way he'll be on 400k pw gross
I certainly hope so. Soon reports about his salary will come to light and we'll know for sure.

who gives a flying fuk about his salary???

it's how much his transfer fee and what we pay a year is the bigger impact on our transfer plans for the remainder of the window now and going forward

These two Arsenal goons on Talkshite are clearly worried about this signing and resort to the Ole stuff

With the shirt sales from Varane and Sancho combined we’ll actually make a net profit from both transfers.
So what you're saying is Adidas paid us to sign these feckers?

I used some online calculator to get to the figures I wrote. It might be wrong. I'm not very familiar with UK salary taxes.
When all the links came out there were a few tweets saying Real offered him 7m Euros Net and we offered him 12 m Euros (without mentioning if the salary we offered was Net or Gross).
We all assumed it was net.
Going by the change of transfers approach in last couple of years I'd assume we've offered him an adequate salary. Not as high as Sanchez's, but high enough to warrant an interest from a 4 time CL and WC winner.
