Welcome to Manchester reception committee

25 year old defender with lots of WSL experience. She was an important player for Birmingham, so I guess the new boss know her well. She joined City two years ago - but hasn't made many appearances for them, so I'm sure she was ready as soon as we came in for her.

Could be a really good signing. I learned a bit about her career last year when we did this article about her at work: https://nationalfootballmuseumstrip.com/my-first-kit-aoife-mannion-manchester-city-women/

She’ll win a lot of hearts in the ‘New Kits Thread’ here saying design is more
important to her than textile technology.

I wonder, as probably many, how she was important at Brum and how she didn’t make the team at City, and how she can take us up to their level if she couldb’t find a place there.

And I wonder how Aoife is pronounced.

She was close to making it into the England team at the time she left Birmingham. Good enough to make the PFA WSL team of the year a couple of times. She got injured (ACL - it's starting to sound like a theme with our signings) in pretty much her first game for City. So basically her career with them ended before it started and they recruited new starters to replace her.

Her name is Irish, so hopefully one of the Irish crew can tell us, it sounds like ee-fah to me, but I'm bad at pronunciation. I'm told it's the Irish equivalent of Eva so that may influence how I hear it :D

It's like Eefa sorta.

What happened at City was this - she went from Brum where she was in team of the year 2 years running at CB, to playing RB for City because they never bothered to buy a replacement from Lucy Bronze when the sold her to Lyon (the replacement for Bronze ended up being... Bronze). Cushing played everyone at RB except an RB. But she was doing fine and started pretty much every game (finally got an England call up), then she did her ACL in the UWCL. So that was end of 2019, think she had her surgery just before Xmas that year. She's been fit since about Feb this year, but not really played. By that time City had got ADK from the Courage in the US to partner Houghton and the manager had changed. She never really got a look in post injury.

Hopefully she can get back to her Birmingham form (where she was managed by Skinner), because she was really really good. She's also not had repetitive injuries, she had one injury that kept her out like 15 months so hopefully it was a one off and she's not now injury prone.

Thanks for fact upgrades! Seems she’s had a bit of bad luck at City, and will be interesting to see her with Turner and Thorisdotter.
