According to Rashford shoulder injury thread Martial’s not available for the beginning of the season. Wtf is wrong with him? Anyone know what injury he has?
Think he's going the same way as Saha where it's more mental than Physical.

Not sure where they got that info, Ole said he was returning to full training either this past Monday or next week Monday when he spoke after the Derby game.

Ole said after Derby game that him and Donny were going to be in training this coming Monday as they still weren't quite ready to join up this week.

This will most likely be a do or die season for Martial, if he doesn't deliver I don't see him being at the club next season.

If he has another bad season, no one would want him for the 250K he is on. So unless he decides to take a paycut and actively move out, we are stuck with him for a while.

Has Martial ever scored a scrappy goal?

One of the reasons he's so streaky is because he's quite lazy. He doesn't score dirty goals, he doesn't make those runs in behind, or that extra effort to move to where the ball could land. Everything is ball to the feet and then do something difficult skill based.

No player can be consistent with that play style, with the exception of Messi. And when you're not in top form, and it doesn't work, Martial becomes a target man that wouldn't look out of place at Stoke. With Ole fecking Solskjaer pushing him for 2 years, he isn't suddenly going to change his game in the 3rd year.

Rashford out at the beginning of the season, I was thinking Martial should get one final chance, but I didn't expect Elanga to look ready this fast and Greenwood looking like a beast. Seeing the two of them yesterday, I'm left wondering what is the point of Anthony Martial?

If he's only here because of his salary and his recent injury we might as well loan him out with an option to buy.

Amidst squeaky bums.
He definitely scored a few scrappy ones in 19/20 when played through the middle, bundling in from six yards and the like. Can think of goals against Chelsea, Sheffield United, Colchester(?) off the top of my head.

He scored loads of goals from running in behind when playing from the wing, that’s why a lot of people rated his finishing highly, because he’s a cool finisher when one on one. Naturally, you get less chances to do that upfront as you play mostly with your back to goal. He also scored a couple goals from winning the ball back from the defence the season before last. Fans just have very short memories.

Big season for him. I’m weirdly optimistic that he’d do well this season.

Pretty obvious the club were not forthcoming about how serious the injury was.

I'm sure we've been in this situation with him before, maybe I'm mistaken, but I get a sense of deja-vu...

He was injured, scheduled to come back, Ole was confirming this, and then weeks passed with no sign of him.

One thing that gets overlooked when discussing Martial, aside from the dips in form, is that he seems to miss good chunks of seasons.

If history is anything to go by, he'll have a very good season and follow that up with another abysmal one whether due to bad form or injuries.

With everything factored in like wages, age, time at club, squad seniority position and last season outing, he can’t afford anything less than to have a great season, otherwise I would file it as underwhelming

He has a record of doing well in alternative seasons, Going by that logic he will have a great season as his last season was not good. so I am looking forward to see him

I hope so!

Thinking if he can start the season well, he could lock down the LW again.

Martial - Cavani - Sancho.
I actually believe he is better for Cavani, rashford and Pogba because of his link up play. Maybe with another baller being added to the team plus another Frenchman in varane he will be unlocked. At the end of the day when he is on form he is our top 2/3 players.

If this season will be as good as his last season was bad, we should expect him to win the Ballon D'or.
