Asking this club to be ruthless is a waste of time. Players like Elanga, Hannibal and Amad are the future. This guy will just block their paths.
He's 29 and been in the first team for 8 years now. Tell him he won't play.

Shame Ole just doesn’t tell him he’s 4 or 5th choice for his preferred position, so he can stay and train and waste a year of his career or he can move on and get a fee for the club he supports. Diallo and Hannibal should be getting minutes ahead of him, 28 and never going to displace Bruno.

I'm sure Ole has told him that he's down the pecking order.

Ole is also known to be direct when it comes to telling players they aren't in his plans.

If Lingard believes he's good enough to take his chance when it comes and stay in the team then good luck to him. With Rashford out for 2 months, Sancho unlikely to start the season and Cavani likely to be rested more, his chance will swing around.

Teams will be out there for him still at the end of the window, I don’t see him sticking around.

I think that’s the hope here. A couple PL games go by with him either on the bench or in the stands and someone makes the move.

Right, I loved Raphael. That Leicester game was the death of everything. We were playing great football under LVG up to that game. After that it all changed. And Raphael was scapegoated. So sad. Was also the beginning of the end of for Di Maria who was playing brilliantly up to that point. Hated Vardy for the way he got him sent off. Shoulda been a free kick the other way. Bloody ref!
what?

Vardy didn't get Rafa sent off. Blackett got sent off for taking Vardy down in the box When he was 1v1 with the keeper.

Vardy fouled Rafa but somehow fooled the ref into thinking Rafa fouled him, even more egregious was the ref giving a pen despite the contact (which Vardy initiated) being outside the box. They scored the pen, we collapsed, LVG completely changed our style of play.

It was a comedy of errors from the ref on the day, along with extremely unsportsmanlike conduct from Vardy. There’s a parallel universe where the ref blows for a free kick for Vardy fouling Rafael, and we build a free flowing attacking football dynasty with LVG, and Di Maria is now viewed as a club legend.

As for Jesse. I’m ok with him getting Dan James’ minutes. At least he knows how to control a football. Surprised West Ham haven’t gone for him.

Quite aware of this. I remember that game like it was yesterday. Poster said Vardy had Rafa sent off. That's not true. He wasn't sent off. Only person that was sent off was Blackett and that was a legitimate red card for stopping a goal scoring opportunity

You would think selling Lingard would be piss easy but I guess not. He has probably joined the player/coach/assistant/ambassador path with Matic, Mata, Jones and all the rest of them

Some of the stick lingard gets is ridiculous. He’s united through and through so whenever he steps on the pitch he always gives his all. Obviously he isn’t going to get much game time so should decide to leave to a club that suits him, he’s a lot better for teams like west ham because he has a lot of space to play with as opposite teams don’t park the bus against them. If he stays at united because he wants to fight for his place then that’s fine, he’s a really clever player who can find space and play quick one tough football… we have much better players now which will improve his game such as sancho. He should be getting more minutes then Daniel James as he is a much more useful player. I’ll be happy either way, wether he stays or goes. Obviously we do need to find some funds though from player sales.

Hopefully the interested clubs are holding off until late in the window to drive the price down.
But I also wouldn’t be surprised if he wants to run down his contract as it means more money and much better options for next year (I believe this is what Pogba is doing also).

After the season he just had, I could never have believed we would be struggling to move him on.

Something is seriously wrong when we can't move on an England International who scored 8 PL goals in half a season last year.

It's pointless for all parties him staying at United. He won't get the games or the responsibility he needs to replicate that form and he'll sit on the bench decreasing in value week by week

I don't know what's going on in his head but anyone can see that first team opportunities for him will be very very limited this season.

He clearly enjoyed his time at WHU, really not sure why he would rather sit here and waste his time and talent

It will all unravel quickly once the season starts and the squads are announced. If we assume our first XI is this
De Gea (or Hendo)
AWB
Varane
Maguire
Shaw
Fred
Pogba
Bruno
Sancho
Cavani
Martial (assuming Rashford is absent)
That means Jessie is competing for a place on the bench with
Henderson
Lindelof
Telles
Mctom
Matic
Mata
Greenwood
James
Amad
Perriera

Unlikely to feature for us in August and I think when reality sets in, he will leave

I get the feeling the guy loves the attention and glamour playing for United. He's done 4 interviews in the past month alone.

Don't see any other reason why he'd want to stay. Surely he knows his game time will be limited. Go out and play.

Maybe, just maybe his ultimate dream is to play for United, even it's that's contributing from the bench?

Some could say it's unambitious as he's good enough to start for alot of Premier League teams but that could be his end goal.

So you would play Lingard in a central midfield 2 ahead of Van De Beek?
The thing is, whether he's good or underwhelming, Jesse always tries to influence the game wherever he is positionally and that's still alot more better than what Beek offers, whatever that is.

He’s pulling a Pogba and parking it up for the season and hoping to get offered a stupid contract here or better terms at another club on a free with signing on fee

This is why we probably should have sold him last summer

The only difference is there are no headlines that read “United confident of keeping Lingard” but it may as well be the same thing

Ah fair point. I remembered it as Rafa being sent off just because of how much he was scapegoated. That parallel universe is right though.

Seem to remember many occasions when Jessie hid from the ball
And he probably did.

I'm not a Lingard fanboy , btw. I just think he's a slightly better option than Beek.
But neither one should be at the club.

I think the fact that he's been part of our squad for so long, says far more about the mismanagement of our team for a long time, than it does about Lingard's ability.

Villa or Arsenal should be all over him.

If Jesse wants to go to Qatar, which is a real possibility, he should move to a team where he would get a leading role.

I think Jesse suffers from homesickness ? So a move abroad is unlikely.

There's just no way he wants to stay for football reasons. He was at West Ham where he played every week and was a key player, even though we're Manutd I can't see the appeal of coming back here and even being lucky to make the match day squads. Ole and co seem as if they want VDB to play more of a role this season and with Bruno and Pogba already in the team what is the point of Lingard. LW is the other position he can play but we are stacked there too.

He probably doesn't want to miss out on the bantz with Beanz and Sanch.

Think it's harsh to judge VDB after one season. Let's see if he can improve this season. Jessie on the other hand has been here for years and is not good enough

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I don’t think we’ll be selling players until everyone is fit and up to speed later in the window. However, if Jesse wants to stay and is happy to be a squad player then I don’t get why we wouldn’t want that. I’d much rather sell Dan James in all honesty - not convinced Donny is better as a 10 in our system either.

I don't think James or Lingard have done enough to earn a place here. It's not like he offers anything to the squad, hence why we didn't miss him even a little last season. Our squad is really bloated which is why it's seen as the right time for him to leave. He's just going to soak up minutes from Elanga, Diallo and Mejbri. players who might actually have a future with us.
