Im going to guess this is effectivley a cheat meal or something to that effect.

Im also going to guess that all the menu choices are probably tailored to what each player needs, Shaw needing carbs as part of his programme instead of just liking chips for example.

Doesnt bother me what they eat (although Ive no idea what Pereiras starter is) but its pretty bad form from whoever leaked it.

Given the choice of having any food he wants, Luke Shaw would probably have a plain cheese sandwich on hovis white and a builders tea.

Just like sugar is sugar. It somewhat is but obviously it's better to eat an apple than sweets.

Fat is better fuel because it doesn't cause as much of a dip afterwards, doesn't get you addicted to sweets and helps massively with your body fat ratio.

Footballers will be great athletes compared to average people anyway as they train too much not to be but it doesn't mean carbs are great and the only fuel that can be used.

EDIT: around 2000 the average body fat in our team was 10 I think. Nev had 12 if the memory serves. Keano was 5 after going low carb. Not to say 10 is bad, because it's still good but is it perfect? No.
Your low carb discussion centers around Ketosis and its incredibly hard to maintain as the main fuel for the brain for example is carbohydrates. Also, the lesser your body fat percentage the less fat to burn and your body will start finding other sources of energy (ie muscle) etc. Carbs are easy to digest and your bodily readily uses it as a source of energy much quicker than fats and proteins.

Professional athletes have to eat carbs and alot of them. They may go into ketosis to get their weight down, but its impossible to maintain ketosis and player 2 games a week for 42 weeks of year.

I think people are missing the point here. It's a team meal with the aim of bonding I imagine.

You don't encourage good spirits by making everyone eat strictly to the extreme. It's obvious a bit of a treat and won't do any harm.

Some of you should see the diets of professional sports people and Olympians. You'd be surprised.

I’m guessing this is a one off, team bonding, cheat meal sort of thing. Can’t imagine them doing cheeseburgers once the season starts.
You’d be surprised.

My workplace provides meals for professional athletes from many sports and they all consume a copious amount of carbs and fat/dairy products. Could be different at EPL given the higher standards but even under Fergie there were stories about pizza and chips on matchday after all.

Where are you from ? It’s not British, we are the same in France.
Everyone knows that well done meet has a bad taste.
Eastern europe. We really do not have a long history with thicker steak cuts such as UK or US, as they were not so common until few years ago (nowadays you can get aged stakes in every supermarket). So we were raised with "if it's pink it needs more time on the grill" which was OK for the meat types which were used.

It’s dirty bulk season for footballers. As some have alluded to, they probably training 2-3 times a day so if mans wants a cheeseburger then he can have a cheese burger.

That Greenwood (We’ll done) steak. He’s gone down in my opinion. Should probably be benched for such an offence against meat.

Although its a team meal, is the choice of food allowed because its pre season? Cant see the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, Tuchel allowing their players to eat chips, chees burgers and pudding. Unless they are burning a ridiculous amount of calories.

Far cry from water, salad and skinkess chicken of Mourinho and Van Gaal days. Didnt one of them also ban ketchup and HP sauce?

Imagine if CR7 was part of the squad, with his eating cleaning mentally he'd probably kick off at what the squad were ordering.

Mata's looks the best, what a legend.

Greenwood on the other hand, well done steak?! You're not ten years old.

For all we know, this is their only cheat meal in the entirety of pre-season and was selected specifically to give them all a bit of a morale boost and some much needed team bonding time.

Sports nutrition is incredibly dull for anyone not involved in sports nutrition - I expect the rest of their diet primarily consists of carefully measured portions of largely tasteless food consumed at strict pre-scheduled intervals.

Give them a break!

This would be my go-to meal:

Starter: pasta salad with spinach, black olives, paprika and avocado.
Main: spicy, lean chicken
Side: fried rice, aromatic mushrooms and a spoon of aioli on the side.
Dessert: none.
Drink: water
It's the work meal, they can have a cheat meal.

Greenwood is spot on. Steak with any red/pink/colour in it other than black or brown is fecking rank.

Sir Alex allowed the lads to eat chips and he is the greatest manager of all time.

One of the reasons Rio gave for the team turning on Moyes was that he banned chips from the cafeteria menu.

Yes but dietary science, conditioning etc have all moved on since then. You want to make it to the top? Then follow CR7 and be exemplary in your approach, food, exercise, etc etc..

These guys have just ran their bollocks off for 2 weeks in 20+ degree heat, and you're all worrying that some of them had a few chips and a pudding?

I think they'll be ok with a few carbs lads.

I remember there was a podcast interview with a rich black athlete and he said, when he took his sister to dinner, she ordered steak well done as well and he had to ask her to either get it medium or order chicken instead. Apparently, its a socio-economic thing with people not being used to ordering rare meat or expensive cuts. Greenwood will learn as he ages and gets used to fine dining. Some of the backlash here is a bit harsh for a teenager.
Not sure it has much to do with socio-economics to be honest. Culture perhaps. A lot of afro-caribbean families prefer well done (but well spiced) meat. I prefer medium-to-well-done myself, but my missus feels absolutely disgusted if she see anything pink on her steak and her dad was absolutely minted. Different strokes for different folks - I don't see the issue. There's also a religious element to it as a few religions frown upon undercooked meats (where blood is visible).

I waitressed and lots order well done steak. Especially black/Africans.
First time I ever saw a rare steak I literally screamed 'ewwwwwwwwww that's blood!! it's bleeding!!!!'. In fairness I was about 6. My mum had taken me out to dinner with another mum from school - who got the aforementioned bloody steak. She was so embarrassed and kept apologising for me, but I remember feeling totally justified and disgusted the whole meal.

When we got home my mum explained 'that's just the way white people like their meat'. I'd never seen it before. We always had our meat cremated.

Peer pressure in adult life forced me down to medium-well, but that's as far as I'm ever going...even if it is seen as a meat sacrilege.

I massively doubt this. The dedication of professional footballers doesn't half get exaggerated, in my opinion.

I don't remember where I read it, but Messi is apparently a big soda drinker. Not the sugar free kind either!

Then again, Messi has more power than the manager and the owner combined. He could probably execute Catalonians on a daily basis and get away with it.

Mason Greenwood’s steak is the worst crime on this menu, also AWB with the side of mash?

Tbf, I think the average footballer burns about 3.5-5k calories per day during a season.

It's not easy to that in 'clean' food.
