You never should have beaten Man City in the CL final. You've triggered their small-club complex.
And clearly, they found the source of the problem: starting six attacking midfielders in the final wasn't enough, they should have started at least seven!

He is a phenomenon, barring injuries every one will see exactly why city have paid so much for him. He is going to take the absolute piss. I really wished he came to United.

I’ve been watching him for 7-8 years and he is just exquisite.

He has no problem breaking any defensive line, for me, he’s the most entertaining player in world football
. I’ve seen people say he is better than Bruno and although Bruno is brilliant for us it’s hard to disagree but that comparison and argument will be clearer come the end of this season.
I think you are writing in the wrong thread, this is not the Messi thread.

Will win a Ballon d’Or in the next few years.

Should have signed him 5 years ago.

Jack is an overrated plastic player and it’s all about the Benjamin’s for him. He’s signed for the perfect plastic club and good luck to him. The Pursloe Villa video is almost gloating at the amount they’ve rinsed City for.
And there was me being a bit chuffed that we’d signed the lad, and you come along with your ‘not in the least bitterly tearful’ very grown up technical assessment supported by facts and stats.

Now that I know that he’s made a plastic it just doesn’t seem the same anymore. You’ve really ruined it for me Lucy.

Very much looking forward to your 11th post in the hope that you’ve pissed your mum off too and she won’t let you play out. You can’t say you don’t deserve it :-D

Still don’t get the hype around him. World record £100m fee and the highest paid player in the league. His stats for goals and assists are very low. At 25 he’s achieved nothing in football, generally injured for 25% of the season and couldn’t even get minutes for his country. Maybe he will prove me wrong but he’s a lot like Hazard where he would rather draw a foul than get play moving forward. A poor signing for City as well. They have potentially 6 players for two positions now. That’s going to cause major disharmony in the squad.

Nah, he'll wrap another Range Rover round a lamp post and get up to all sorts of 'off the field activities' ... and the rest of the time he'll be injured.

Some really embarrassing takes in here

They signed Jack Grealish, not second coming of Zinedine Zidane. Get a grip

Proof that Man Utd is becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing transfer window. Top English players don't want to join anymore. City or Chelsea it is.
This has to be trolling given the amount of top English players we have at the club and given we've just signed Sancho.

Surely no one can be that thick?

This is pure class from the Aston Villa board.

Jack Grealish was the leading star of a Aston Villa team that's on the rise. His sale is undoubtedly going to have an impact on the pitch.

For him to come out and candidly state the fee, why the fee is what it is, what the plan with the money is, and maybe more importantly: The emphasis he puts on Grealish' emotion on leaving the club and promises kept protects everyone. Grealish does not come out of it greedy or selfish, the club does not come out of it incompetent, rather honorable, and the transfers are put into a perspective.

Its really incredibly refreshing to see and I commend them for it

I just hope Jack doesn't get behind the wheel of a car following the celebration bender.
I wish more chairmen were like this. A bit of transparency like this goes a long way in terms of building your relationship with the fans. In a hypothetical scenario if things aren’t going well, but you have a basis of transparency and being honest and open with your fans, I think there’s a much lesser chance of discontent.

He's a very good player and I'd have loved him at UTD..... the hype is absolutely bonkers though.

Anyone else feeling slightly apathetic for the season coming ahead? With City buying greilish and probably kane soon, its safe to say they are strong favourites for the league again. We'll have more 6-0 city thrashing other teams to look forward to. What's really left? League cup is owned by city. FA cup is a lottery. CL - other teams are much stronger than us and our record of getting out of the group stage is awful. I was elated when we signed sancho and varane but City just seem to keep moving the goal posts to an unattainable level.

Sorry for the misery guts over here!

Quite the opposite. The better city get the better we get. The reason we won the CL in 99 & 08 was because we were forced into becoming the best team in the world by Arsenal & Chelsea in order to win the premier league. If we still have the same ambition we did then, history should repeat its self.

I'm really confused by it. I've never seen this supposed mercurial player they're talking about, this (26-year-old) generational talent.

I think his wages are fine, at least consequential. If you pay 100m for him, you expect him to be one of the highest earners in the league as well.

I said this in the transfer thread but he gives vibes of Berbatov joining us. An obviously talented player that the club can afford to have but doesn’t elevate the team to a new level. Never really stands out or gets better but still churns out performances you’d expect and therefore it’s technically a good transfer but not a mind blowing transfer.

The hype is also partially because he is the next Beckham and saviour, at least going by the media and general public, combined with his good looks, you get hype and hysteria everywhere. Kane going to City wont be half as much

Not buying this 'dream' move nonsense. I can't imagine anyone who has dreamed of playing for City.

If Villa had crept into champions League last season he'd still be there.

For a £100m signing there’s literally zero hype and I bet there will be little to no noise if he has a bad spell because absolutely no one outside of City cares.

Well yea, but Villa is not good enough currently. They are ambitious and may be in the CL in a couple of years, but Grealish has outgrown them currently. I also feel him playing at City improves his chances to start for England considerably.

Just feel in my bones that Sir Alex would have lapped up Grealish some years ago and its clear that Grealish himself would have preferred United to City if he had the option.

Really hope Donny van de Beek can start to show that we got a good alternative.

I still don't get the hype, good player yes... Ballon d'Or? Based on what exactly.
Absolutely nothing. He doesn’t suit the way City play in my opinion.

£100m on him is a gross misuse of money.

this is an example of a lot of the problems we have here in the UK, looking at stats and thinking they mean much.

He’s not winning the balon d’or . We’ve just bought Sancho who’s younger, has produced better stats and actually highly rated across Europe not just England.

We can’t buy every player and besides there’s no space for Grealish in this team not now and not in 2016. Also five years ago, Grealish was nowhere near the player he is now both physically and performance wise.

Grealish is no Ronaldo nor Messi. Let’s be reasonable please.

It's nice to dream big, but he'll do well to cement himself a first team spot ahead or alongside Foden in the next few years

Better not have any “off games”. City havs 6-7 international players that can play in his favourite position. Could find himself on the bench.

Jadon Sancho - Not top footballer
Harry Maguire - Not top footballer (Literally ditched City to come play for us, he even had conersations with Pep before the transfer happened)

I don't get this post, do you think we were going to buy Jack Grealish as well after spending £110m so far in the transfer window?

As much as I like him, I was always against him at United. Signing him would create the same problems as for City, multiple players with the same favorite position. Sancho is less sexy signing but fits us more.

I am also happy City didn't get a striker for that money.

I am sure he will be really good for City, but I can't imagine he will deliver enough to justify the price tag. He is not a Ronaldo, Mbappe, Haaland type player that will get +40 goals during a season. Granted he has played for Aston Villa, but he hasn't topped 10 goals in a season yet - not even in the Championship.

Could you imagine any other club spending that amount on Grealish? I don't see anything in him that City couldn't have gotten for £60m from a player outside the PL. Aston Villa are the true winners here.

So youre telling me that City spent £100m on one decent player (so over hyped on here because hes English-seems the English tax applies to potential aswell ) just so they can maybe get 2 shots on target if they reach another CL final?

He's pretty much one of my favorite players. It's been coming for a while but it's absolutely gutting to see him go to City. Think he'll absolutely tear it up there which will be a fecking shame because regardless of stats and end product, he's one of those players that make the game entertaining and gets fans off their seat. Would have been adored at OT.

Anyway, he's gone to City now so feck him. Hope he doesn't adapt to City and goes to shit
Maybe I'm getting old (relatively) but I just can't be bothered to watch many of Aston Villa's matches.

He's not a world record fee. And he's definitely not as good as Eden Hazard despite the overrating on the caf
