As I said, I wouldn't bet on us, but I'm not going to throw in the towel just yet :D

It's also still too early for me to identify a clear favourite with all the clubs after him. a lot will depend on what happens at those clubs over the season.

The thing that, for me, I wonder about his supposed urge to join United- why didn't he then?
Pretty sure we wouldn't agree to the release clause and the structure of the deal Raiola wanted.

Fair enough.

I just wonder why anyone would think it's more practicable to not sign a player, who wants to come as you claim, with a release clause for a small transfer fee and then convince him to extend his stay at the club for real and without such a clause, but instead you let him go somewhere else to then convince him to join again two years later, for a huge contract and a much higher transfer fee, facing huge competition.

Something does not add up with that story..

United don't include release clause for any player. It would have caused issue with future contract negotiations and players that United buy. Hence United passed on the opportunity to sign him.

Because you're not a stepping stone club?

Could be that Milan are just bluffing and hoping we relent in our negotiation stance.

Supposedly we want €5m in loan fee and an option/obligation for €15m. That seems pretty fair to me. If they want him so bad, pay up!
we signed him for 20, he's come in been shit for a few years and we want rid

can't why anyone would give us more than a few mill personally

Essentially the deal couldn't be done with what Raiola wanted. I'm sure there was a very big pay off to the agent and his dad too in addition to the release clause.

Dortmund were pretty much agreeable to it all whilst United weren't.

Unless you believe only United and Dortmund were interested and it was simply the players choice to go to Dortmund and play in Germany? I think a few teams were put off with the proposed deal that Dortmund accepted.

Really? I’m not seeing any progress from him as yet? Which is why our asking price is too much
I am not going to advocate for him, but he didn't look lost in his full game against Belgium, his performances in Milan have been alright and I think 5m euros is a fair asking price, considering he's our stronger RB back up.

Amine Adli is a 21-year-old attacking player who can out wide or behind the striker.

EDIT: English Tweet
The „4th option“ is meant to be that he would be their 4th winger behind Coman, Gnabr and Sané.

5m loan followed by another 15m for buying. That puts his price at 20m. More than we paid for him. We can’t possibly justify that

I think that is obvious.
So if Haaland shared that perception and considers Man Utd as a preferred permanent destination, why would he insist on a release clause in the first place, why wouldn't it be possible to negotiate a contract without it?

As I said, something doesn't add up.

Unless you assume the attractiveness to Haaland as a destination of Man United 2022 has fundamentally changed from Man United 2020. It's possible, but for that you need to have a head-turning season, in my view.

Surely not as big a payoff to dad and Raiola as we all are facing next year so that argument makes little sense.

That's what I was thinking, but he's like Musiala in that he can play in all attacking positions, not just out wide. That'd make him more than a 4th-choice winger, no?

Haaland at that time wasn't the sure thing he's now back then, though.
Yeah but Utd were trying to sign him weren't you. And the transfer sum was a joke, what was it 20m €?
I repeat myself, something doesn't add up. I laid out my reasoning above. Apart from that, I have no clue, and of course it's very possible he joins you next summer.

Most players want to win titles. The PL, unlike the Bundesliga, is a competitive league where any team can fall of the top. Man Utd from 2013-2021 is a great example of that. That obviously make teams like Man Utd and Liverpool less attractive than Real Madrid and Bayern for some players. But what a joke it is how these teams have ruined competition in La Liga and Bundesliga (Bayern obviously way worse than Real Madrid).

But that do not make Man Utd a stepping stone-club. Man Utd can also attract the biggest name in football despite not being at it best. I mean, players like Pogba in 2016 and Sancho in 2021 would probably not even consider Bayern despite them being a guarantee for a league title.

Yes they were, but it's easy to understand United being willing to agree to Raiolas demands now that he's a superstar compared to Raiolas demands when he came from the Austrian league.

It's not really an argument. It's what was reported. No one knows exactly but as mentioned earlier United have a history of not doing release clauses (don't think any of the big English clubs do) and this was a major sticking point.

As pointed out Haaland had it all to prove at that point (still does to a degree). Dortmund were happy to do whatever was demanded whilst United were cautious and not keen on the numbers and release clause.

Atlético will sign one forward. Not two. One and that's it. Rafa Mir, tied up, but not fully closed yet. Surely the most likely as of today. Dusan Vlahovic is another option but not easy. There are some more. The club keeps working.

The big change is we weren’t prepared to guarantee Haaland the starting position when he moved to Dortmund. Now he’d be coming in as the new no9 guaranteed starter.

I thought Phillips was the better of their young CBs? That other one who they kept having to play was hopeless.
Nat Phillips wants more first-team football. With Van Dijk, Konaté, Matip, and Gomez all fit now, Phillips has no way to get enough first-team football.

At 24 he’s not really a youngster anymore. They have four established senior CBs in VVD, Gomez, Konate and Matip so he’s surplus to requirements.

Right. That's a good argument if you believe he was afraid of the competition back then.

I don’t see Haaland going to Bayern. I can’t see him staying in Germany. He strikes me as a player who wants to do it all over the world.

This might just be wishful thinking, but I can’t see it.

Yes I did, just not the way you wanted it to be. But ok.
You didn't. You responded like I was trying to big up Bayern as favourites to sign him, which I didn't and don't, as you can clearly read at the start of the discussion.

FYI, Kvaratskhelia is a 20-year-old Georgian attacking player who mainly plays as a winger.

Agent Mamuka Jugheli on his client:
I have to meet the president of Rubin after August 12. With 85-90% probability, Kvaratskhelia will change teams and play in a very high level club in Europe. There is a lot of interest – from England, Italy or Germany. Everything will be clear by the end of August.

I do not understand where the information is spread by people who have no relationship with the player, the club or the agent. I say with full responsibility that there was no interest from Milan and we did not contact the former captain of the Georgian national team about this issue. There was interest from a Milan club, but it was Inter whose leadership we met in April. As for Tottenham, I will confirm the information in this case, there’s a serious interest from them. I cannot say anything new about Leeds and Khvicha.

Khvicha is wanted by almost every team in the English Premier League, for example, Everton, Brighton and Wolves, but one thing is interest and the other is a real offer. Apart from Inter from Italy, Kvaratskhelia is also wanted by Juventus. There’s the interest of Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio. The initiative is shown by at least five clubs of the German Bundesliga. At this stage, active negotiations are underway with only two clubs, one of which is in England and the other in Italy. They know all the details related to the player transfer.
It looks like both Tottenham and Inter are ahead of the race for this talented winger.

No, I told you why a player like Haaland would want a clause like that in his contract with Man Utd. I get why it is hard for a german, and especially a Bayern-fan, to understand, but as I said, Man Utd is part of a very competitive competition. There is no guarantee that a player will win titles at Man Utd at this point in time.

If Man Utd fail to achieve their ambitions, a player will want a chance to leave. And Man Utd have only once sold a player they wanted to retain. If a player decide to sign for Bayern he will win the Bundesliga due to the lack of competition (as a result of how Bayern have operated for years).

This confirms that Lukaku will indeed travel to England to complete the rest of his medical and seal the deal. Let's see if his integration into Chelsea will also be delayed.
