Original source is The Athletic. Julien Laurens also confirmed.

Not currently linked to us, but available for just €15m (£12.5m) in PSG's firesale.

Has a signing ever made more sense than this one? He'd be an absolutely perfect short-ish term buy. The destroyer we've been looking for to let our attack shine.

He's a better passer than Ndidi, a much better ball carrier (something that Matic has showed adds a lot to our game) and has almost identically high defensive output. Comes with experience of the league, having great spells at Villa and Everton.

His stats for last season are off the charts. He's always been statistically one of the best DMs in the game:

Passing

Defending

Carrying

I'm hoping by making this thread that I can manifest a transfer into existence.

Looks like a decent gamble. A two year contract could work for both parties.

This guy would just be more deadwood added to the squad, he will be 32 years old in september and is a pretty average player.

People are happy with any signing as long as the fee sounds tempting enough. He'd be Matic replacment we didn't need.

He's a year younger than Matic and people have been saying Matic legs are dead for years now
All 32 year olds aren't created equal. Gueye's engine has always been his biggest quality, and he's coming off a very good season. Our last over the hill PSG player is working out pretty well.

Idrissa Gueye isn't average...he's the LIDL version of Kante. Most of the quality, half the hype, fraction of the price.

Also I should probably mention at this stage that I represent Idrissa Gueye on a professional basis. Joking...probably. Although it would be a privilege to rep such a wonderful player as he continues his relentless march towards a Balon d'Or

I mentioned adding Gueye as part of the deal when it looked like PSG wanted Pogba. Might still be doable at a good price while keeping Pogba. I'd prefer Neves who's at the other end of his career of course, but Gueye isn't a bad shout.

In 2019-20 summer window, in almost all the articles his name was mentioned. We didn't have any article with him as primary target but all the articles with "ManUtd are planning to sign 4-5 players" and the list always had Gueye.

He looked impressive for Everton.

Thilo Kehrer is more promising on that list. He's still young, cheap, and versatile for DM, CB, and RB position.

Gueye is down with Covid. We do not know how that will impact him long term...

Well, based on the history of Covid with footballers so far, a safe assumption would be that he will be fine, in at most a few weeks.

Covid affects individuals differently. For example, Pogba is on record saying it took him a long time to recover fully from Covid. Outside of football, there's too many anecdotes of folks battling respiratory discomfort post Covid, for a few months.

You may well be right, but it certainly makes me nervous.

Even if we were to be interested in Gueye, surely it must be as a loan with an option to buy. And I wouldn't mind that at all but only if any other targets do not work out.

As for Gueye's quality, every time I've seen him, he's looked like a good option in the destroyer mould. His passing stats surprise me a bit to the point of me questioning its validity, so no comments on that.

I'd be quite happy to take him on a free then with a 1+1 year contract, just like the other over the hill PSG player. Or otherwise a loan.

If you're paying a transfer fee as well as tying someone down for 2-3 years he ain't exactly a stop-gap anymore. That can be work out to quite a lot of money for a soon to be 32yo, if you decide to upgrade on him next year and no one wants to take. It would be just like another Matic.

PS. He has 2 years remaining on his PSG deal so he'll certainly want at least the same duration for any new contract, to tempt him to move. Probably more.

I would give Thilo Kehrer a shot. He can play multiple positions - back up RB, Back up CB and defensive midfield. A multi positional player as cover would be highly beneficial. I think he can also cover LB but we dont need it. Our new John Oshea

Mostly crap at Everton.

Mostly crap at PSG.

I can't believe some people think Utd should sign him. No where near good enough for any of the top 10 PL teams.

We were briefly linked to Gueye at the time PSG signed him and the consensus then was we shouldn't do it. We've improved as a team and he's regressed as a player in that time, so I don't see why we'd make the move now.

I dont think he is better or different enough to Fred and McTom. Camavinga, Saul or Neves are younger and much better propositions than Gueye. No surprise we get linked to them, as i think Gueye would just be a waste of (playing) time.
