Really, really good performance. Much more dynamic on the ball and incredibly hard-working off it. I don't think he should play every game, but he's a great asset to the team.

Fantastic all round game, confident, strong, defensive awareness and progressive passing.

He has a place in starting XI this season surely.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
First half was fantastic, best player on the pitch. It wasn't just the obvious stuff, he was also making himself available for passes and playing good passes forward himself (two things which he is normally quite poor at).

Second half he was pretty much invisible but hopefully that was just a lack of match fitness since he didn't really play in preseason.

Scott tends to have a couple of really good games a season. Hopefully this will be the start of him doing it consistently rather than just one of those occasional ones.

Edit : Don't focus on national team part. It's obviously a mistake

I don't get why some of our fans hate him. He's a good player and somebody you want in your squad. Good performance today.

He is a big game player just like how Flecther used to be. But, his first touch and passing needs to be improve to become an elite CM.

excellent today, he’s really the man for a big game isn’t he? suits those rough and tumble atmospheres to a tee

Brilliant today by the way. Looked a shoe in for Man of the match at half time, but was overshadowed obviously by the Paul and Bruno show as he tired a little in the second.

I think he gets criminally underrated by our fans and will go on to be a hell of a player for this club. Can see him captaining us as well.

This is a very fair.

McTominay was on one today. Our control of midfield dipped after he was subbed off. His energy and strength were well applied today. It's just one game but I was impressed by his reading of the game. Something that, I feel, has let him down in the past when he's vacated midfield to go chasing.

It's because some people in a wrong way only rate midfielders alot by their ability to pass the ball or be creative.

It's why no matter what we need or want - one of the main type of players that get bought up by certain fans is a deep lying playmaker.

It’s pretty obvious Ole loves this guy. He very often praises him in post match without being prompted.

Subject to form, of course, I think Ole has him in his preferred 11. He obviously rates Fred as well and loves playing them as a pair. Personally I find it terrifying to see them two trying to see out a tight game but perhaps I’m overreacting.

If we’re going to buy a new midfielder, you’d think it will be someone who can do similar jobs to McFred perhaps with a touch more quality but without losing any of the strength, energy, stamina and attitude those two give us.

In any case, I think Scott is going to be here, and in and around the team, for as long as Ole is here, at least.

Dig up stupid!
He's improved year on year since breaking through and I expect him to improve again this year. He clearly takes his game very seriously and continues to work hard to earn his place.

He'll never be glamorous enough for some of course but I think he has all the required tools to be that defensive workhorse we've been waiting for. He's also a real presence in both boxes and is a determined fecker to boot.

I love the guy, long may he continue to prove his doubters wrong

Is it really not possible to use him as the only DM with Bruno and Pogba in front of him?

I think he has all the attributes to be a brilliant DM.

Definitely not. His positional play and passing is average at best but when he's next to someone and decides to show up like today it's really great to watch. People are curious after one performance why he's so hated or not rated but that's because then he's got another 10 games where he's hiding. Today he showed his class, was a perfect game for him tbh. Leeds press a lot and the game is played quickly, so he doesn't have to think about anything and just use his power and play a quick simple pass. Toda yhe was on it and I praise him. Let's see if he can keep it up, unlike last season.

He can be a DM alright, he can even be a CB. It's he's playmaking that is suspect and moreso the combination with Fred, which leaves us with two players in the engine room who are a bit suspect in possession at times.

I don't want to shit on him today, he had a great game objectively speaking. He has very good games in his locker and today he showed that.

I just reckon against better opposition that presses more and has more skill on the ball, the old worries about the McFred partnership will resurface.

I disagree. He’s a box to box midfielder. His biggest qualities are his ball carrying & his timing of the run into the box. I don’t think he’s a DM at all.

What is with this Goldbridge (United Stand) and his hate for McT? Even said VdB should have played tonight instead of McTominey. And he said it after the match.

Relishes a battle, struggles with a puzzle.

This wasn't some standout 'best ever performance' from him. He plays like this quite often for us. I'd say about 40% of his games for us over his career have been around this level. He's a much better footballer than he gets credit for.

The biggest downturn in our performance today happened when Scotty came off and Matic on, and that's no coincidence.
