Are we a CDM short of being an elite team?

Yeah we are. A top class DM would allow us to drop Pogba into CM and go with a full on attack with Bruno and a front 3 of Rashford/Greenwood Ronaldo Sancho

I'm not going to moan though Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane is a crazy summer, the best I've ever seen in my 30 years of support.

Love how now people consider we have a potent attack, Fred and McTominay are fine.....totally disagree. What does Ronaldo in the side improve for our midfield. This isnt the Ronaldo of before that can carry the ball up the field for us, this is a potent player around the final third.

The need for a central midfielder hasnt lessened whatsoever with us signing Ronaldo

No. We are an elite side, we may not have the trophies to show for it yet, but our performances and results over the last 2 years have been elite. However, we're a DM short of being the best or most complete team.

I think us, Chelsea and City are pretty even (with Liverpool just behind) but City (apart from a striker, but I think Jesus could have an explosive season and they'd be sorted) and Chelsea both have a much more balanced and complete squad, so they are more consistent and can handle the trials of a long season better. The DM would fix that and make us "complete".

Nope, elite sides don’t need exceptional players in every position and it’s a strange mentality to have

We only need a dm because of pogba. If pogba tracked back and had some defensive qualities we'd be set.

No way there’s another signing now, we’ve had an amazing transfer window, we’d have all been delighted to be in this position 6 months ago. I can’t see the club sanctioning another big acquisition, even if Jesse etc leaves now.

Let’s crack on with what we’ve got!

Need to get rid of a few. Surely this signing spells the end for martial.
Some/ all of Lingard, pereira, Dalot, Jones could/should be moved on as a priority

While that might be true, based on his France level and his start to the season would it not be better to sign a DM and keep him where he is

And a keeper.
But Ronaldo and Cavani are very short term fixes, so we'll need a new striker soon. We'll need a good replacement for Pogba if he goes for free.

I feel your right, we should have enough with what we have, but we need to improve our tempo and passing through midfiel, if we can’t do that with who we have we‘ll have to get someone in who can.
l’d expect having Ronaldo on the pitch will force teams to concentrate on him and give other players more time to play the right pass.

regardless what the caf thinks of him f rice wants to move seems like it would be easy to do something with lingard to WHU in a swap deal and just work on the cash difference to make it happen.

In the final hours of the window, Lingard and James can be moved. And with that money, we can get Camavinga on a good deal I think. Even after everything happened in this window, I am still suspicious Glazers will grant this but one can dream.

While being one of them that thinks Rice is overrated his difference to this team be huge at this moment

I’d like to think we can sign someone good in that position (after shifting a few faces) and then call it a day after that. Trippier would be a nice bonus too but I think we‘ll be fine if we don’t sign him.

Maybe Ronaldo being at the club will motivate some of our targets to come play at Utd, like Camavinga.

I understand completely but we have started the season off without Varane and a full on Sancho. We really don’t know where this squad is at never mind adding Ronaldo on top.

--------------------- DDG --------------------
AWB - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
---------- New DM - Pogba -----------
-- Sancho - Bruno - Rashford ---
--------------- Ronaldo ------------------

We got a pretty decent bench too: Henderson, Lindelöf, Telles, Fred, McTominay, Greenwood, Cavani

The missing link is really obvious.

Apparently its Leicester that want James, 20m or so, perhaps we can try to get Ndidi, give them Lingard too?

At least we are putting a real squad together at last, we have a few to move on and when we do a few more upgrades will would make sense,

It is plausible for them to go for both of them and they can flourish in that side. But, I still think they will request a dumb money to in addition. Wish it would happen though. Ndidi would fit us like a glove.

I'd sell James and Lingard then loan Martial out. This gives us about £35m - £40m and surely that's enough to tempt Brighton for Bissouma and I would guess any DM around Europe would jump at the chance to play in this team. Fix the midfield and we win the league - it's that simple.
