Trippier next please. £20m should be enough to close the deal.

Yeah, but we're at our 26 man squad limit now i believe so we'll only be able to go after Trippier if we manage to move on Dalot or (someone else).

Would assume we getting Trippier so
Would be fantastic. He can play both flanks, so even if he starts on the right every fourth game and same on the left, he will still start half of the matches, while Shaw and Bissaka won’t be overplayed.

How are we signing a RB when we only seem to have Fred, Mctominay and Matic in midfield???
But we have no one at RB. Bissaka can’t play 60 games (and is the weakest link in the back four anyway).

If we don’t buy a RB, we will need to use Lindelof or Bailly there to give Bissaka a rest. Or, god forbid, Jones…

That said, perhaps we will buy both RB and CM

I'd rather use one of those three there and get a decent CDM to be honest. I do take your point that it's something we need to look at.

For me, keep Dalot and get a CDM

We don't need a rb ffs. Just use dalot as the back up. We need a DM!
Trippier will quite likely get into our starting XI on the right, so it will be an improvement. And with Ronaldo, Tripper’s crossing ability will be very valuable

Agreed. Trippier would be a fantastic addition to the squad. Hope we get him.

Would make it an almost perfect window.

He’s not getting ahead of Bissaka unless he’s injured or needs a rest.

Doesn't seem like we have any interest in a midfielder, it's all fan / press led.
Yeah I agree - feck knows how that is the case, though.

I think Ole has been naive and bought into Matic’s pre season form.

Trippier makes sense, though. He’s not really cover — I think he’s a similar level Wan Bissaka and honestly wouldn’t be surprised to see him displace Wan Bissaka — who, after DM and GK is the next weakest spot in the side.

Ronaldo was a bit of a pointless/vanity signing when the fee and wages could easily cover a midfielder. But, it is fecking Ronaldo, so…

Yep. When he said Matic was the best player in pre season that shocked me. If I have 1 criticism of Ole it's he seems to like the "people" a bit too much, and not just judge them on the pitch.

If Trippier does come he will play against defensively minded teams due to his crossing and dead-ball ability. Against teams who play with better full-backs and wingers, Wan Bissaka is better suited due to his better defensive attributes, especially one on one defending. We'll have to see but Varane coming could possibly change the whole dynamics of the defence.

Aside from providing much needed cover at fullback, he'd be invaluable in games like the Southampton one just gone where they were clearly targeting AWB with their press. Excellent tactical alternative to add to the squad and I say that as someone who doesn't rate him that much generally.

To try and put the size of the difference between the two in that regard into context statistically: AWB is in the 44th percentile for progressive passes, Trippier is in the 99th. AWB is the the 47th percentile for progressive passing distance, Trippier is in the 97th. AWB is the 48th percentile for key passes, Trippier is in the 81st. AWB is in the 56th percentile for passes into the final third, Trippier is in the 85th. AWB is in the 52nd percentile for passes under pressure, Trippier is in the 87th. AWB is in the 22nd percentile for through balls, Trippier is in the 83rd. AWB is in the 57th percentile for goal creating actions, Trippier is in the 87th. Etc, etc.

Meanwhile AWB beats Trippier in stats like tackles, tackles won, being dribbled past, blocks, interceptions, clearances, errors, etc.

Having two such different RBs to choose from depending on the opponent would help us a lot, I think.

And the one defensive stat Trippier does beat Wan Bissaka on - quite comprehensively - is aerial duels won. Weirdly enough, Trippier is In the 86th percentile whilst Wan Bissaka is in the 40s.

It makes a lot of sense.
