who do you feckin think ?
Surely we should be taking no less than 20M for him even in this market. Look at the likes of Rhian Brewster going for 20M last year. James has had vastly more output than him.

The chat on the Leeds forum now reflects James quality, most don't want him - he'd have been OK in the Championship but has no end product being amongst the most constructive points, £20M for that donkey!? Being amongstt the most negative!
Now Leeds has Rodrigo, Jack Harrison, Raphinha with very high work rate on the book. I don't know if Daniel James is better than them.

can we sell them James and give them money on top for Kalvin Phillips.

He was arguably England’s best player at the euros and played that role very well would love him as our defensive mid.

Feels a bit shit to finally see someone leave and probably not use that money to fund a much needed midfield option.
If he does go I wish him all the best, have it his all every time he was in the pitch. Sadly not quite enough here.
He’ll be a dangerous player in that Leeds system.

For me this sounds like us going for Phillips and giving them James.

I don't see why Leeds would come this end of the transfer window to offer 20 million for James, even if Ronaldo was a significant transfer.

He’s only just become available, they’ve wanted him for a while.

Wasn't a great signing in the end but wish him well if he leaves. Think he'll do well at a smaller club.

Poor James. I bet he was looking forward to playing alongside Ronaldo. Conversation probably went like this:

James: Hey boss when does Ronaldo get here? He's been my idol since I was a kid.
Ole: He's here after the international break but listen Dan...
James: (Interrupts) And what shirt no will he wear? He usually wears 7 but that's Cavani's shirt.
Ole: No you're right Ronaldo will wear the No.7 but listen Daniel...
James: (Interrupting again) So are you selling Cavani? That's a shame. Who will get on the end of all those crosses I don't put in when I can't beat my man.
Ole: No. We're not selling Cavani he'll play no21. And about that Dan. Have you heard of this place called Yorkshire. It's fantastic!!!

But in all seriousness. I wish the lad well. He started off brightly enough but it's been clear for a while that he's not quite at the level to play for United. At least not if we want to be a club that's challenging on all fronts again.

Can't fault the lad, he always gave 110% on the pitch. Think Leeds is a sensible career move for him. Wishing him well.

It further highlights the lack of a plan to me though - if he's not part of our plans going forward (and he shouldn't be, unless as a squad option, but we are stacked) then why start him in 2/3 Premier League games so far this season. I hope, as some have suggested, this isn't covering the Ronaldo fee, but will actually contribute to the purchase of a CDM before the deadline.
I agree, it seemed like we had turned the corner planning wise but has all been thrown up in the air for Ronaldo.

I don't think we've ever been in for a midfielder this summer though which is a mistake.

Well, we played James yesterday and if anything would come in to Ole's head from yesterday's performance- it's more likely he wanted to buy a CDM after that.

I just would be surprised that we don't go for one after the performances and the injuries to players like Mctominay.

I can just imagine us offering James for Phillip's- the way we probably offered Lingard for Rice but couldn't agree on a fee.

Anyway, just pure guess work.

Seems pretty nailed on that this is to cover the Ronaldo fee from looking at all the United writers comments. Not surprising in a way, the club said they had to sell to buy before Ronaldo and so having come up with 20M to make the signing the Glazers want their money back and Dan is the easiest to sell quickly before the window closes as he has interest and is not the type to make a move difficult. I don't see a new CM unless we shift Lingard and or Donny and with just over 24 hours to go both seem highly unlikely.

This guy is going nowhere. And i am pretty sure that any potential move is blocked by Ole. He just loves the guy.

Having so many top attackers and refusing to sell James for 20 mil is just stupid.
Seems like he IS going somewhere and your made up narrative about Ole was wrong. Great jinx if that was the intention of this post though!

Ha ha yeah. Excitable? Yes. Labrador? Hmm maybe he's more like a whippet. A speed merchant that could get blown over by the wind. Anyway since it looks like he's Leeds bound. Maybe he'll soon be Bielsa's yorkshire terrier :D

Would be a good move for all concerned. Except maybe Leeds.

Wish him luck. I think he'll do well there. He's a good player but obviously nothing more than a squad player here, but good for him for wanting more game time. He had plenty of good moments too, got an unfair amount of stick considering he was a squad player for a cheap price.

That's a good deal.

We took a punt on a player, didn't work out. So good move for all the parties to move on. We will recoup the money, James can go to the club that wanted him for years now.

It's not surprising at all. James is still good enough for any non top team PL team. 20m-25m is a minimum expectation for his fees. Just look at other british players, how expensive they cost.

Fee wise definitely but James isn't good enough to start for most PL teams. Don't understand Leeds' obsession with him, he wouldn't make their best eleven.

Best of luck, not a good end product but does everything else okay. Always played hard and was blamed a but too much since he was never going to make it here.

Good move all round. Hopefully this Ronaldo boy can deliver for us so we don`t miss James too much.

Leeds aren't playing against a low block every week. I'm not saying he's united grade but all this not fit for the premiership is pretty damn harsh

James fit us well against Leeds to make them worried about his speed (and remind them of why he would fit their team). Against Wolves he was very useful defensively to help AWB cover Traore
Against Leeds the team had to consciously avoid him for every successful attack, he didn't trouble Leeds defenders once. And he was absolutely useless against Traore, might as well have not even been there.

This is where there's a distinction that should be made between pressing and pressing that results in a dispossession. Work rate and effective work rate. Because they're not the same things.

James covers a lot of ground and runs around really fast and that tricks everyone into thinking he has excellent pressing. Including Leeds' scouts it seems.

So we are selling the only winger with an acceptable amount of defensive workrate. Rashfords workrate on defense has fallen off a cliff under Ole and Martial’s never been one for effort, anyway. And I don’t know how Sancho is in this regard.

This would not be an issue if our pressing out of possession was structured, but we make it up as we go along. And now we have to carry Ronaldo as well. Will be interesting how we fare against high pressing teams like ‘pool, City, Leicester etc Based on the evidence against Southampton and Wolves, it doesn’t bode well.

Fair play to the lad, never once shirked his responsibility on the pitch when asked. Agree with some of our posters who say that he wasn't upto it quality wise but would not wish ill feelings towards him. Seems a good pro who went through a bit of a rough patch right at the start of his United Career. Maybe Diallo will take his spot in rotation once over his injury.
