Can someone explain the issue with international matches? or link to a thread that already has that discussion.
PL clubs have refused to release players for international games that involve countries on the red list, as the players would have to quarantine on return, I read somewhere that if Cavani played in all Uruguay matches this season he would miss 20-ish utd matches because of it.

Uruguay is a red list country for England / UK
Which means when he returns from there, he needs to quarantine (even if hes vaccinated) and will end up missing games.
But the FA/Football league whoever basically said players wont be allowed to go to internationals where the country is on a red list
For the club its an issue as we will be paying him to miss 20 games due to this.

Why would he want to go to Barca and play second fiddle to Depay?
Its more so that he can play for Uruguay in the world cup qualifiers (as it will be his last ever chance to play a world cup, as long as they qualify which he wants to ensure they do by playing the qualifiers, which currently he cant do playing for an English team)

If that's the case he should just go to Boca Juniors. He would be joining Barca for all the wrong reasons...

Anyways, looks like he's staying

It’s not a big deal at the end and I am sure the club and Cavani have found a solution.

If Cavani went to every international break from now until March/April, he would miss around 20 matches for us due to quarantine regulations.
That, we as a club just cannot afford.

However this will also not be of any help for Cavani and Uruguay as a Cavani who is not training and playing at all (due to quarantine issues) will not be able to help Uruguay qualifying for the World Cup.

So actually the best solution for both parties will be to agree on certain international matches Cavani will be allowed to play. This way he will only miss a few games for United and at the same time remain match fit for Uruguay.

Despite the universe throwing every possible spanner in the works one after another, I'm still overjoyed to have this guy here doing his thing for us. So fun to watch, such a brilliant player, and he's improved us in decisive ways just by being here.

Can't wait to see him start soon.

Thanks guys

That is a shame, and you have to feel for him! (although I find having sympathy for a footballer paid millions somewhat difficult but still)

Hopefully the ever changing circumstances around Covid and travel restrictions aligns in his favour. Or like you said, he can select the most crucial international games to play in and miss the ones that not.

I think Cavani has been great for Greenwood's development so I'd like those two to play as much as they can in the coming season.

The NT manager had that exact discussion with him on Friday and they agreed on his removal from this round.

That said, we are not Brazil sitting pretty on P6W6. This round should have been 6-9 points in the bag, doubt we will get 5 now.

Edinson knows this will be a recurring issue throughout the season and, bottomline is, he would never forgive himself if we fail to qualify because he is playing in a shitc**t country were they red list another country with over 70% of the population on two doses and less than 1.5% of ICU beds with Covid patients.

"It's in South America". Reminds me of Yes Minister and TPLACs. Thus his ????? at that PL clubs decision. First Negrito, now this, England can go feck itself for all he cares. Nowt to do with United, the fans or his teammates. Nothing to do with #7 or Cristiano (except obvioulsy it's even less likely he will play at all between international breaks).

If I were him I would move. In fact, if he doesn't, the story of the season will be this thread full of deranged fans camped here moaning about him being a mercenary, not ever being available and being the single most important reason we aren't challenging.

It's a shame because it's blindingly obvious how much less disorganised we are going forward simply by sticking him up top and I'm not really sure we will get that from Cristiano any time soon.

The feck is Sanchez doing holding hands with Pogba?
He looks like Chicharito actually. Sancho and Varane in there so can't be Sanchez. Muppet alert: is there any midfielder in world football that looks even remotely like that?

Definitely Paddy, not sure about the taxi part

Assume the bearded guy in Adidas kit is Becks and Maguire the massive head blocked by... Greenwood?
 You are right, initially thought the bearded guy was DdG, but just seen the tatoos. The other one probably Maguire, not sure who the player next to him is.Could well be Greenwood.

And where is Mike Phelan??

Yeh. And the plan is we suppose to use Cavani on rotation this season. So why some are butt hurt if we're missing him 20 games out of 70?

I was hoping with Ronaldo coming in he'd be allowed to travel. We've covered ourselves and it seems Cavani really wants to play for his country. Such a shame our government won't do the common sense thing and provide exemptions. We did it for the frankly useless FIFA and UEFA suits for the Euro final, why not for the players?

Well, I'm butthurt about it too. It's not as simple as 20/70. You don't get to pick and choose rotation, it's arbitrary black holes in the schedule equivalent to two weeks away (same as others), then 10 days not training, then another 10 to get fit... Rinse repeat three months in a row + March. That's Dec-Feb + Apr-May which is roughly what we got from him last year.

Then take away potential injuries and add CR may well be injured while he is quarantining or such shite.

It's terrible for us and we've done feck all about it.

The key point is CAVANI DOESN'T PLAY FOR A RED LIST COUNTRY.

Uruguay right now is handing the UK and Europe their arses on a plate as far as Covid is concern.

Sure, away to Brazil is dangerous, make him skip that but the way the fixtures are he could just need quarantine once (in November) through skipping 2 games out of 10.

This break has two home games against direct competitors, let the guy go, make sure the points are in the bag and maybe the games in March aren't even necessary. 70% of qualification is not dropping points at home.

Nope, hamfisted approach. "We pay, you mercenary, fall in line". feck this shit, hundreds of people mobilised around a fecking shirt number and not one that can put 5 mins of thinking into not losing a key player for ~40% of the season.

I see. I missed that quarantine = no training part. Then needs time to gain fitness level.

Yeh. It's terrible then, as it's not as straightforward of "just" missing 20 games.

Although from my personal egoistic POV, i want to see him play for United as often as possible.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about Edinson Cavani: "He is not ready. He suffered a hit in training. We hope he is not missing for long"

I am not sure where the quotes comes from though
