Cavani is not respected enough around here

A good chunk of the fanbase threw him under the bus when the FA went on a witch hunt on a baseless comment.

Everyone wants him to give up his jersey number for ronaldo while jones can show the middle finger to varane. And now today a section of the fanbase wouldn't mind cavani leaving for barcelona since we have ronaldo.

If last season didn't show these fans the importance of a proper striker then nothing will. We wouldn't have finished 2nd if cavani wasn't around.

I bet cavani scores more goals (per min played) than ronaldo this season (excluding pens and free kicks).

Show some loyalty to a utd player who's run his socks off every game he's played.

The drama is real… Cavani is an awesome dude and a dedicated professional. Don’t let illogical bells in our fan base make you think they’re in the majority. The vast vast majority of our fans adore the guy,

I'll take that bet.

I agree with your overall point though, Cavani is almost like the forgotten man now. He's a top class player that had a great season last year.
We need him, and i'm sure he will get 30 games this season, maybe even more.

People have to remember that Cavani going will mean more games for Martial, do you really want that?.

A bit OTT. I wouldn't mind him leaving because he's way too good to spend most of his time on our bench. It's a waste of his own talent.

A personality like Ronaldo will dominate the minutes up front, and Cavani will end up getting the scrappers. He's too good for that.

Don't think this happened on here tbh. Maybe a select few comments if you're cherry-picking but I remember most said the FA were being stupid.

The number thing is true but it's also very silly and says more about the balls to the wall hype Ronaldo's return has created rather than any obvious disrespect towards Cavani.

Yeah but how many starts and how many minutes will he rack up in those games?

Did a load here throw him under the bus? I saw huge support for him. He sees it too, based on this.

Also, Rio let it slip that Cavani offered to give up his shirt for Ronaldo. A lot here give a lot of weight to numbers, I'll give you that. My 2 pennies, Ronaldo has signed and will be happy with whatever number we give him.

Some will be starts, some will be subs.
I actually can see Ronaldo and Cavani starting more games together than people think, with Cavani up top and Ronaldo on the left in a free role.

A section of our fanbase will always have weird opinion. But when the news broke out that he was talking to Barcelona, most of the response was against the move.

I agree. I don't care much if he likes Manchester or hates the FA or whatever. On the pitch, he gives it his all, and that is more than enough for me. Played a massive part last season, and I'm sure he will get a very warm reception at a packed Old Trafford.

Signing Ronaldo was only great because it was in addition to Cavani, not as a replacement.

Cavani's pressing is vital because he's one of the only forwards at the club who can actually force mistakes and win the ball off defenders. Whereas the likes of James and Bruno are masters of ineffectual pressing. And for others like Ronaldo and Martial pressing isn't even in their vocabulary.

Even if it means putting Cavani out wide I'd still be starting both of them (Ronaldo and Cavani) in the big games.

Probably be crucified but I think he gets plenty of respect, he seems almost at cult player level these days despite playing what, half a season fully fit? The level of love he gets is arguably higher than any other player in the team.

For example, start a poll on the caf and I'd say he's more popular now than strikers like Teddy, Forlan, Chicharito, Saha etc. who have given this club a lot of memories.

Maybe a good chunk of the media felt he’d be past it and not what we need. Just as some are now doing over Ronaldo

Glad you made this thread, people are so quick to dismiss him and forget how good he was towards the end of the year, so clincal

Does anybody think we can fit him and Ronnie in the starting X1? Imagine how clinical we could be

He seems like he is the protector when anyone tries anything. He was hovering over Pogba when he went to ground last game and he looks like he was ready to kill anyone who dares to touch Mason.

He gets lot of respect, how many players from the current squad even have their own chants? Cavani within a year has one.

Regarding the number, not sure about Jones. There are reports that Varane didn't ask for number and that rumor is nonsense. Even if he asked and Jones said no, then it's end of the topic. Many supported Jones saying he can hold the number.

There are reports that Cavani was willing to give up the number. If he says he don't want to, then there will be many who will support him.

also dont think that the majority on here has no respect for him. to the contrary he was one of the saviors in here last year imo. what angers me is that for the op it seems necessary to put down another player of our team (namely ronaldo) to big up another one. i personally would be happy if cavani stays, he is very likeable and an asset for our team who brings something very unique. but i also would understand it if he leaves for his own good. and cristiano will have a better goal/min ratio, thats not even a question.

When he first joined I thought that we were getting a has-been.
I was wrong and I thought he was fantastic for us from the very first game.
He puts in a lot of effort and he also has the skills required to be a No.9. If only we had him when he was younger, that way we'd have got a few more years out of him.
I am expecting great things from him, this year.

Ole on the other hand, is a different story.

Amen to that… and both of them have suffered disrespect in here too. So - yes it’s the internet - yes it’s anonymous- but… my personal strategy is to put people on ignore

Cavani was top 5 players for us last season. Scored+Assisted a LOT of important goals, and got us out of bad situations. Scored in the final as well. Invaluable because he was our only pure CF.
