Disappointed he got injured. Hopefully, we can get him some league cup games if he's not out particularly long, and maybe find him a suitable loan in January.

Yeah, the bright side is that it might be easier to find a Prem loan in January if some team like Southampton or Palace are struggling with injuries on the wing.

Any body language experts in here? To me it feels like Solskjaer didn't want to praise Amad for scoring here, his tone switches compared to his usual praise when a player scores. He switches the attention onto the Bruno pass for the Man Utd channel interview as well. I may be looking into this too much but the fact he only got 10 minutes of game time in 2 months following this game makes me think Solskjaer has a strange stubbornness towards playing him, maybe an indirect middle finger to the head(s) of recruitment that wanted us to sign him in place of Sancho last summer.

I honestly think he was just trying to deflect attention away so the hype wouldn't build too much on such a young player, who we'd spent a fair bit of money on.

Amad is considered one of the hottest prospects in the world, the club know that and are taking a very long term view with him.

He'll have to wait until January to go on loan now, which is a shame for him, but training with Ronaldo for 4 months won't do him any harm.

Has Amad been here long enough to count as an U21 when it comes to Champions League registration?

Yeah could well be that, I'm probably looking into it too much

I think it'll be very likely he, Elanga, and maybe even Mejbri all go on loan in January if we can find appropriate suitors. Amad and Elanga will be easy to find I reckon, I think we need to be a bit careful with where Mejbri goes.

I hope he "bulks up" and gets enough minutes to find a good domestic loan in January, so he qualifies as homegrown.

I remember seeing a few cocky tweets from him after he First joined...one was a tweet he put out after his debut for the u23s... the 6-3 game v Liverpool. He did well...scored I think. He basically tweeted something to the effect of “did you guys enjoy the show”. New kid, huge price tag, one of the biggest clubs in the world and he was already bigging himself up...it rang alarm bells for me anyway. Then, in Ole’s take on the match when asked about Amad’s display, he playEd down Amad’s contribution and bigged up Joe Hugill who scored 4 in the same game.

My take is that he has needed a bit of grounding since his arrival. Not doubting his attitude as such as Ole has been very complimentary when asked about him but I reckon he needed to realise that the path to the first team was not guaranteed...what we bought was amazing potential and he needs to have an ultra professional attitude to match that potential. Ironically, the injury will give him a chance to witness someone like Ronaldo up close, at 36, still training as hard as he did when he was a kid. I think Amad could be one of the main beneficiaries of Ronaldo's return to the dressing room.

I still don't buy the fact he needs to bulk up.

Get a bit stronger sure. But he never got bullied in a single game for us and got stuck in. I doubt he ever looks that much bigger than what he does now.

For talented players size often doesn't matter at all.

A lot of Italian football journos on the podcasts I listened to, around the time we signed him, suggested it was an open secret he was the best talent in Italy of his age group. Pretty much every big club knew who he was and were monitoring him.

Obviously it's too early to say if he'll reach his potential, but there's a reason we paid so much to get him before anyone else could. Bit like when we stumped up over £12m for a teenage Ronaldo, but probably not to the same degree.

He got eased off the ball a fair bit. It's not 'bulking up' per se, but players like Silva and Mata are deceptively strong. It doesn't matter that he's small, just he needs that stronger core that means he can use his lower centre of gravity.

He didnt, and the next person will say he did. It is a bit pointless to go back and forth like that.

To be fair he still felt like a kid playing with adults.

Felt the same way when Greenwood first broke through, now look at him fly from defenders with ease.

Greenwood added some strength and he showed that this season. That new acceleration burst he got now..

I disagree, he was one of the best players on the pitch when he started.

Greenwood has notably gotten stronger, but rewatch his full PL debut, I dont think he has had a match ever since where he was so threatening, creative ever since that match. It was only Cardiff, but the runs, creativity, decision making, smart interplay where there no less than it was now. His finishing lacked a bit that day.

That had nothing to do with him not being "strong enough" or him being a "kid amongst adults". The guy is quality and was coming from a spectacular season in the academy and was able to translate it to a higher level of competition despite being light as a feather.

When he came into the squad defenders had no idea how to handle him. But as soon as defenders started working him out they could keep him out of the game with strength, they’d get him in a tight space and double up, or when they were running side by side they’d ease him off the ball. The beginning of last season Greenwood was being kept quiet but now he has that extra ability of being to muscle his way out of tight situations.

He could translate his game being light as a feather only for a while. Honestly name me one player who has been consistently good over and extended period of time who is as slight as Amad or how mason was when he started. There’s a reason players are pushed into the gym.

There was a segment where Carragher does a medical and the physio put Jamie into a machine that tested the strength of his legs. He said it was mainly to see how strong his quads and hamstrings were and compare it to the base level of the squad. If say his hamstrings were that much lower than the average of the squad he’d be put in a specific training regime. Players are expected to be at a certain level of strength to play in the first team. It doesn’t necessarily mean ‘bulking up’ but it means your muscles working at a higher level.

Yes you're talking about his footballing intelligence and ability.

Agree with that, no doubt about that.

But what I was saying is that physically he can't effectively hurt premier league defenders on consistent basis, yet.

He needs to gain a bit more strength, endurance and muscles to be considered a prime squad choice.

Phil Foden? According to ESPN he is even lighter than Diallo.

And I think that's just a part of the truth, I think even now Greenwood still doesnt do a lot of the things that he used to as he has made his game a lot less dimensional.

What have you ever seen in him lacking endurance? He doesnt need to physically "hurt" defenders, he didnt even do that as a youth player.

There are awesome players who do very well in staying away from "physical battles". This discussion made me wonder why Lukaku and Memphi didnt star for us.

Doesn't have to be exceptionally strong, but maybe he can add a yard of pace or explosive acceleration to be effective for United. Strength wise? At least at the level of Foden or Mason Mount.

We have a lot of options now, but I can see him involved with James now sold.

Lukaku has limited first touch, and lost the plot with the squad.

Memphis didn't take his chances.

I dont think Foden is necessarily stronger than him, Mount clearly is but Amad has barely gotten a chance to show himself. Foden is very difficult to get off the ball, but I think Diallo is too.

I am not sure if he'll get quicker by gaining muscle, possibly. Greenwood looks quicker, Rashford and Martial don't.

I don't think Diallo is is that pacey, strong winger type who runs in straight lines. If anything, his type is more Ziyech, very creative, very good balance and dribble and vision. Can still beat a man but not go on a run to beat 5, and high game intelligence.

Yes, Foden, Mount, all of them are very difficult to lose the ball with their exceptional skills. But look at the difference before and after they actually become first team players, light and day. Amad also has that, however, we simply has senior players ahead of him in their prime age and that is the sole reason why he couldn't get time.

Ole said this quite clearly how Mason is able to show his game more due to him being a man now.

I would agree that consistent game time will develop them faster physically and mentally.

But I trust with the coaching staff that behind the scenes, Amad will conditioned more to be able to play in the premier league in the near future.

Is it? Or rather that James, Mata, Lingard were getting minutes ahead of him? Mount is very well trained physically now, Foden not so much. But it isnt surprising that as Foden actually got the chance to play, get used to the tempo and physicality, he improved in that regard.

I don't trust the coaching staff that much necessarily, but they have far more credentials then I have nonetheless. I think it's good that Mason has developed more stronger and has stayed lean though. However I remember him already having very good balance and hold up play even as a light weight. Which has been amplified now.

Foden is world class potential player. Last season is the season where he played so many 90 minutes and starting games. There are some valid reasons for that, might be the same case with Amad.

Mason is still filling up. Expect his prime body to be lean muscular and lanky looking like RVP.

Amad will come good, he is bought for the future, after all.

I think Amad is as well, but he will not get there by sitting on the bench. It is sad he got injured, he could finally show his class.

I am not buying this for the future talk like that. We arent City or PSG, there is no point in looking that long term especially if Amad can easily choose to continue his career elsewhere soon. We don't have 1 capable CDM and bought Amad and Donny without them having any impact short-term, it makes no sense.

He will, but not at this stage of his career. We have senior players now ready to shoulder that responsibility.

Foden doing just fine sitting on the bench for couple of years, it's not all doom and gloom.

We solved two underlying issues, RW and CB. Ronaldo will also cover our weaknesses of not converting chances last season, and he will also play 90% of games (he is a fit fecker)

CDM is our issue to fix next summer. The money, player targets, should be gathered from now on.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Any updates on Amad after he picked up an injury before the transfer deadline?

"He’s still injured, still out for about a month, so maybe after the next international break he will be available for us which is great for us. It was bad timing for him to get that injury but he's working really hard and the kid is going to be a good one."

Out for another month according to Ole.

I think he should be given a chance on the right. He's naturally a right sided player too. Mason and Diallo as backup on the right should be tried IMO. His last competitive game was good as far as performance goes and he should be given a opportunity.
