He’ll have a better career than Zaha. That’s my prediction.
Probably, Zaha hasn’t really done anything. Their trajectories are similar, but Zaha hasn’t really done anything. Doesn’t help that Palace are perennially mediocre, their best achievements being finishing 3rd in ‘91 and runner up in the FA Cup 5 years ago. You have to be really exceptional like Jack Grealish to get out of this level, and he’s just not. James won’t be either, but Leeds are a much better side.

I might be completely wrong but I’ve got this inkling that he’s going to really excel at Leeds and end up being one of those British players Chelsea sign for a squad role and resign to the reserves within 18 months.

Suspect he'll get better coaching at Leeds than he did here. It should be a worry when such a dedicated and humble lad doesn't improve as a player after being at the club for two seasons. Good luck Dan!

Has he improved at all in 2 years in any area of his game? I think he's just as raw now as when he turned up. If Leeds have paid £30m for him then Bielsa must have some ideas about how to get the best out of him.

Bielsa coached players like Kalvin Philips and Bamford from no hope championship players to England national team.
Haha and you put that much in who’s selected for England? Haha I mean Mings, White, Coady , Lingard who more than half of the caf don’t like all make the England squad. I’m surprised all of Leeds squad don’t make their national team then if Bielsa improves everyone of them. I mean who in the Leeds team would you take to improve our squad?

So because he hasn’t improved, it’s not the player but the coaching? You don’t even make sense.

It could be a mental thing with him. He plays a lot better for Wales than he plays for us.

Bamford is not international quality, so really that means very little in the grand scheme of things.

If he hadn't have improved why did Leeds spend £25m to get him? Seems a strange non argument really. Inflation hasn't been that bad in two years!!
He has definitely improved as a player since he joined us, of that there really should be no doubt.

Bielsa is a better coach, that’s his forté, the other administrative, personnel management etc. responsibilities are his weaker points. James will get much more specific instructions and have a much simpler game to play because Bielsa choreographs phases of play in detail. Ole’s a bit looser, like most managers.

I think he’ll be great there. Huge upgrade on Poveda as their backup speedster and a good alternative to their two current wide players. He’ll drive Bamford buts but he’ll also create a lot for him. And he’ll be really useful in their press.

Those players weren't even good enough for England before Bielsa came. People were questioning if they were even championship level players.

It's not about how good England is at the moment. It's about making those players far better than what they were showing before Bielsa came.

Bamford is not international quality, so really that means very little in the grand scheme of things.
He was a doubt as a starting striker in the championship. He has improved massively from where he was before

Exactly how I feel - he'll thrive there, but it's not a slight on Ole per se, he'll just have a much more specific role which I think he'll be comfortable executing. I think it's a great move for all parties involved - he was too limited for us, he was not going to get much game time, and Leeds get a decent player that is likely to suit their system.

Pretty sure he will do very well at Leeds. I'd much rather Martial had gone than him.

I think we got a decent fee though so not really disappointing.

Ole is probably not the best coach for developing players. Which is fine if you're a manager of a club that can afford for buy established players. Ole does give chance to younger players, but he doesn't coach them in the way a manager like Bielsa does.

Ole is more of a sink or swim approach kind of manager, which is not ideal for a player like Daniel James who clearly have a lot of rough edges to his game.

He'll look twice the player at Leeds, fairly confident about that.
Not difficult really, he looked half a player when he was here.

If he can manage to control the ball without falling over it would be a start.

Not sure what James is complaining about. The only thing he had was speed. There were no tactical plans on him making useless decisions and not being able to cross a ball into the box.

For most of his time here who was he supposed to be crossing the ball into from the right? Martial and Rasford? last season they were two of the lowest energy forwards I’ve ever seen at the club. No desire to scrap and get on the end of things at all. James couldn’t shoot from the right either. Bamford will thrive off James and James will thrive in the extra space. He’ll prove to be an astute bit of business who our fans couldn’t wait to run out of the club fast enough. Even when he played really well for Wales off the left they were totally downplaying it when the evidence was right there in front of them. He’s an effective player when used correctly.

Unfortunately It’s more of a popularity contest, shiny new toy will fix everything, blame game mentality these days than just letting an effective and settled squad player do his work and hopefully keep improving. Nobody bothered thinking for a second the main problem was that the rest of our forwards were injured or wildly out of form and there wasn’t a lot James could do about it on his own. Just blame James instead, that’s easier. May as well blame him for blocking the youth too while we are at it. I hope he does really well at Leeds (first time I’ve ever said that about a player). He really seems like a good down to earth lad who didn’t deserve half the abuse he got on here.

Kalvin Phillips ran around like a headless chicken all the way through the tournament, which a lot of caf users moaned about. He's also hardly the best midfielder England has ever produced, and if that is all Bielsa can coach out of him, then it ain't so good, is it? Also Bamford rarely plays for England also, so again, how has Bielsa made this amazing international?

I never said they were amazing internationals. I said he improved them massively from where they were before, championship players struggling to make a starting 11.

Most Leeds fans wanted the squad they have now in the PL binned before Bielsa took over. Those players under any other managers won't even make it to a PL squad.

Are you trying to up your post count or something? Are you seriously trying to make some kind of argument here for James?

He's still developing, he's got that raw pace, prefers playing from the left which is where we've been stacked, absolute work horse, joining a team of work horses lead by a tactically brilliant manager known to make players better. I think he has a great chance of improving as a player and wish him also the best. Quality person.

That seems rational. However, some are going a tad bit OTT about how well they think he'll do. Personally, I just don't rate the guy and I think he lacks the basic fundamentals to be anything more than a very basic PL player. Working with Bielsa will certainly improve him though, and the best of luck to the lad. He might surprise me, but I have my doubts.

What's with the wankfest over Bielsa? Has plan A, or plan A, if those don't work he will use Plan A.
More like what's with the Bielsa hate on this forum. Because how dare a manager not conform to normal "wisdom" and play defensive football!

Didn't you guys got sick of Mourhino's pragmatic football?

I'm with you on this. Zero flexibility in his approach even when his team are taking a hammering.

They look a shade worse than last season so far as well because his tactics aren't currently working against the so called lesser teams in the league.

I applaud his general approach but you can't be that one dimensional.

Said that myself. He just does long balls to Bamford all game in every match I’ve seen.

People think he’s good because he doesn’t speak English. Just a fancy Sam Allerdyce for me.

I don't get this, considering James has never looked anywhere near as good as Martial.

Well, sometimes it feels the same with Ole too. There are many times when our teams look very passive for a large amount of time in the game without Ole making any sub or tactical changes. Individual brilliance usually has got us through in those scenarios.

Then you've not watched enough of their football to form a reasonable view.
