If you honestly see somebody in a football top and think it’s ‘cringe’ it sounds like you’re the biggest douche and in all honesty just a sad feck with a small penis.

Don't think it's the sort of thing I would comment on, certainly wouldn't post it on here. If they feel comfortable whatever they wear, so be it.

I get one City shirt a year, sometimes home, sometimes away, sometimes third, always around the end of the season when the prices have gone down or are on sale. I get a name and number on the back, usually my favourite player from the season. If a big player is leaving I usually get their name. I don't wear them much and only ever in the house but it's a tradition I quite like now. Started doing it as a teenager back when I first started earning money and didn't have much to spend it on. Not fussed if someone thinks that makes me sad.

Some of the comments in this thread are weirdly over-sensitive. You'd swear people were trying to stop others from wearing what they like or saying they were doing something morally wrong by wearing a football shirt rather than just saying they're badly dressed. And being badly dressed is fine, nobody says you have to give a shit.

If some middle-aged guy wants to walk around rocking a mullet, cargos shorts, a novelty breaking bad t-shirt and a baseball cap then they should feel free to do that too. Equally if they want to try and dress the way their 13 year old kid does, they can go right ahead. It doesn't mean they're gonna look good but maybe they don't give a feck what other people think or aren't bothered about looking good at that particular moment.

Bit of a contradiction to your OP.

It depends whether the question is whether or not a football shirt is a socially acceptable and appropriate fashion choice in a given setting, or if it's just bad style

Look at Castia's comment a couple of posts above yours. The comments are weirdly sensitive on both sides of the argument.

How oddly sensitive.

I think you're overreacting here but if I see you out with a football shirt on I'm going to get you in a headlock and run into a wall.

I had a spell in my early 20s when I thought I was cool and that wearing a football shirt was for kids.

Fast forward 15 years and I’ve ordered United home, away and third with Ronaldo 7 on the back! I’m a football and United fan, nothing at all wrong with wearing the kit.

That said, I agree with the OP about the “time and place” thing. I’ll probably only wear them to the gym or if I go to the pub to watch the match. Although where I live there are no bars with EPL and on Champions League nights they show Barça or Madrid.

Top is fine, see it a lot when I'm not in England at all different places

Here, I wear it to matches or when I'm playing (eg five a side)

I'll never understand full kits though, like people going shopping with socks, shorts and then trainers (only thing I can ever think is that they've played something like five a side then gone shopping straight after to pick up a drink or something to eat)...

But though I'll never understand I wouldnt judge as there could easily be a reason

Just bought my old man & his mate (late 60s) each a 3rd kit Ronnie 7 shirt & I've no doubt they'll be wearing them to most games this season..

Never realised there was a thing about wearing em, if the occupant is happy in them, surely that's all that matters?

Think you’re taking it far too seriously. It’s a piss take mate.

But there are some people(adults ) who really should know better; walking around in a brightly coloured top while your gut and love handles are showing does you no favours

I swear there was a thread about full kit wengers a few years ago.

I’d love to wear the United shirt around casually but not the most fashionable thing going!

At the game or at home is allowed. Gym is questionable. At the pub only if it is a major final/s. Any other time it's not OK.

I wear my Rashford shirt about town (on matchday mostly, but not always). I see it as pretty much literally nailing my colours to the mast. He's also a complete legend and I'm proud to promote his name. If I see someone else wearing a shirt, I'll give them a thumbs up or a "UNITED". Have had some nice conversations with Reds I don't know as a result. I've also had bants with people wearing shirts from other teams.

If someone thinks I'm badly dressed they can kiss my shiny metal ass.

Is this where we are at? Criminalizing people who support their clubs by openly buying and wearing jerseys. Do we forget where the money goes to at the end of the day?? Do you think sometimes players are bought with risk but the club are reassured that they will recoup a good chunk of money back with shirt sales and lettering with the players name??

Get a grip ffs.

I collect United kits but I wouldn’t dare wear them unless I was playing football.

Unbelievable that there are such one-track thoughts about what people can wear when they get a little older. I completely do not care if a grown man is wearing a football shirt. In fact, it can be refreshing to see that you are still passionate about a team. I only wear football shirts when I play sports. Otherwise never. But I did not do that either when I was young. In general, one should not be so busy with what other people are wearing. If you think this is ridiculous, then look away - it's your own problem and your own prejudice. Grow up.
But but but......Someone might giggle at you in the shop???

Wear what you want. Be a wolf not a sheep.
I think that's the point of a lot of the posts. Are fans really going to stop wearing replica shirts based on the opinion of someone in Basingstoke? People need to chill.

No one cares. But it does say something about you whether you like it or not. Like wearing socks with sandals or full tracksuit or shorts when its snowing or million other things.

Tell that to science and the fashion industry and business and on and on. Why? Because what you wear says something about you. Try dressing up as a homeless person and try get McDonalds. See if what you wear doesnt say something about you. Try wearing your footy top to an interview and see how it goes. Try pull women in a nightclub in full kit and see how that goes.

It says more about the other person for judging people based on what they wear.

We have people wearing football, cricket jerseys in office (and it's a MNC) and no one judge them. Many wear sports wear on Friday, especially during IPL season.

It says they are human. They cant help it. Its just what happens and its a fact. Do I like it. No. Im in the camp of mostly dont give a sht. Buts its still true nevertheless. Wearing cricket jerseys in an acceptable environment wont be judged negatively because its acceptable - in that environment. Like dress down Fridays at work. But go to an interview dressed down and you will be judged. They cant help it. Its how our minds work. Its why you wont go pull woman (or men whatevers your preference) dressed like sht. Cause they will judge before you have even opened your mouth.
Wearing your football shirt apart from in the appropriate environment is seen mostly negatively by the majority. Thats just how it is. They will look at you and judge you. It will even be subconscious.

Wearing a full football kit? Yeah. I don't see why wearing just a jersey is seen as negative.

Maybe I have missed it, did any media conduct a poll or survey on how people feel about wearing sports jersey at different places?

Also wearing jerseys casually is different from wearing them while attending interviews where you usually have dress codes. Not sure how attending interviews has any relevance, if anyone attends interview when there is a dress code then yes, they will be judged for not following a simple rule.

Yes, like you said few people judge and like i said it says more about them if they think they can judge a person wearing a jersey. I didn't say it won't happen, I disagreed with the point that it says something about the people who wear them.

Let me phrase it like that: Once my CR7 home kit arrives, I'll sleep, eat, work and shit in it and if someone has a problem with that I'll headlock him and let him smell my armpits.

Literally no-one is doing this. You can walk outside wearing your boxers on your head. Me thinking that's fecking weird isn't criminalising you. It's just an opinion. You're still free to walk to the shops wearing your boxers on your head.

Fairly certain it's a criminal offence if your junk is on full display!
