Fair enough really, if we can't win it then take it away.

final of one world cup should simultaneously be the opening game of the next
Previously on World Cup 2033...

"And United Captain Cristiano Ronaldo lifts the World Cup for a fourth time with Portugal, increasing his lead against Lionel Messi by four. Unfortunately Leo can't be here today as there wasn't a winch large enough to lift his arse off his couch, but I'm sure Trevor Sinclair has a word or two to say about this moment..."

"Thanks Dave. I don't think this Bradford host crowd have ever seen such a great injustice! Ronaldo was only a 5/10 tonight until he scored seven and assisted five. I expected more from this Polmont Prison team. Their captain has just come over. Sepp; how are you feeling right now?"

"Is a bullshit! All of this is a bullshit!"

Assuming that Fifa want the tourament to be held every two years, starting after World Cup 22...

That would mean it would be held in 2024, which is the same year as the Euro's; so I can never see it happening.
It's the Euros that wouldn't be happening, if that comes to pass. Which I guess is why UEFA is opposed to it.

And It's a horrible idea, from every perspective other than the only one that matters to FIFA, which is profit.

I think Id rather see a club world cup. A proper one. Same format with ONLY the 1st place finishers of every league in the world.

On the other hand, Im kinda sick of football at the moment. Its been non stop since it came back from the covid break. So maybe be give us all, players and fans, a much needed break instead of trying to have football 365 24/7.

So, no European Cup?
Make it a 2 years cycle as well. If UEFA can’t stop this from happening then that’s the route they’d go for, clubs and players be damned.

It’s domestic football that’s going to be absolutely wrecked. Short of scrapping one or more domestic cups, concentrate all qualifiers into a single international break and impose a mandatory winter’s break, can’t see how players can cope with the schedule. They will drop like flies. Or maybe we’ll finally see the Super League.

European cup is more entertaining and better competition top to bottom. I would think the major European leagues would say no. International games screw up the season enough as it is.

They could scrap the qualifiers and introduce a promotion/relegation system and have WC2 and so on.

Say the 5 worst european teams in the WC would have to play WC2 in 2 years. Same for other continents, changing the number of teams accordingly.

For me the worst about international football are friendlies and qualifiers.

That's the way they should go. Or use the continental tournaments as a method of qualifying top 8/16 in the Euros qualify for the next World Cup.

They will have to figure something out because the schedule will be nuts in 10 years time with a big tournament every summer.

Would double England's chances of ever winning it again. Therefore I am against it.

This is why even though I didn't like the Super League idea, I was more irritated by FIFA and UEFA's phony outrage.
The only thing these people care about is money.
How can a decision like this be left to a bunch of corrupt FAs? Players, coaches, clubs, fans have zero input.
Let me give you guys a quick example of how FIFA works. The head of the Nigerian FA, Ahmadu Pinnick is one of the most corrupt men on the planet. Every international tournament, the Nigerian players are always on the verge of strike because the money for bonuses for participation is never given to them. Note that FiFA has already paid this money to the FAs. The federal government always has to intervene and pay these players out of tax payers money.
Now this is the kicker. Successive governments have tried to investigate Pinnick, each time FIFA have threatened to expel the country from football.

Can see why most other federations will go for it. There equivalent of the euros are no where near a money spinner as they would like.

This would obviously make tournaments bigger and longer aswell, as im sure each federation wouldn't want to lose out on certain teams that will get into say euros, Copa America bur not the world cup.

It's also going to end up struggle to find hosts. It's getting more and more expensive to host and the legacy isn't all that great. They will struggle to find nations to host it.

Make it a monthly event where defending champions defend the title against a random team like boxing

I’m so bored of international feckin football, this would just add to the long list of things I dislike about the modern game.

I'm quite happy with the current format

Having a major International tournament to look forward too every 2 years being the Euros then the World Cup, perfect, doesn't need changing

I don't feel a need to see a World Cup so regularly, as much as what I enjoy it, I probably enjoy it more because it is every 4 years......I make more of an occasion for it because of that very reason, makes it more special

Only having it once every four years is what makes it special just like the Olympics, I wouldn't change that.

What I would want to see changed is the international breaks. I thought it was Wenger who suggested no breaks during the season which would in turn make them shorter, and have all the qualifiers in a few weeks / a month right after the season. I'd like that format, but keeping the WC just once every four years. Think it would be compatible with the WC, Euros and Copa America, not sure how the AFCON would fit in.

Finish the season by the start of May, a weeks break, a week training camp with international teams then six weeks of internationals takes it to the end of June? Three weeks off for non Intls, four for the rest, pre season starts late July?

FIFA aren’t interested … they‘re looking at modern fans (not all t b f) who want more and more regularly. As do sponsors.

It’ll be like a Super Bowl eventually.
They can’t. Super bowl has set teams competing every year. The qualifiers for the WC take too much time. They have qualifiers for Euros as well. Even having it 2 years is going to be a significant challenge due to the number of games they have to fit in.

Premier League ends mid-May right now, with 3 or 4 added weekends and maybe one or two more midweek games I'd figure they could end mid-April, and the internationals end by the end of May or beginning of June. Not sure how feasible that is (La Liga and Serie A end by the end of May, not middle right now), but it would at least cut out the horrible international breaks out. I've yet to come across a genuine football fan who likes to have a break in the beginning of September after only 3 Premier League games, it's just bonkers. The additional travelling for South American players e.g. is also taxing for them.

Like I said I haven't really put this into an actual schedule, maybe it isn't feasible at all, but it's an idea I liked just because it cuts out the international breaks. The interests of the players will however keep conflicting with those of the big bosses at FIFA, enough rest for players doesn't really scream "increased profits" unfortunately.
