What's this rumour about Vettel retiring? Any legs?

De Vries at Alfa is at advanced stages, but a bit of a outsider that could change that is Guanyu Zhou. His sponsors are rumoured to have put 30m euros down for a drive there.

unbelievable that Lewis is being even mentioned as a No2.
Lewis will be a force to recon with for a few more years yet, he will want to add number 8 to his titles.
His 8th title will be maybe his hardest, there is plenty of young blood after him.
I still see the title race being Max and Lewis for at least 2 more seasons.
Russell is a better driver than Bottas and Mercedes will be a better team next season.
I tend to agree. But Alonso fans said the same when Lewis joined Mclaren. So anything is possible, although Hamilton would not accept being number 2 just as Alonso didn't.

I also wonder what impact long covid could be having on Hamilton after him nearly collapsing on the podium!

I agree about the DNF , but I never thought he was lucky.
21 race and Lewis won 10 Nico 9, Lewis had 2 DNFs Nico just 1, the rest of the races point were pretty evenly spread.
Somebody on Facebook today , said Nico went against team orders and won the WC, I dont agree, the way the season panned out, says to me the opposite, that there was no team orders and the were allowed to race.
16 was the season they changed the crews around who worked on the cars and maybe its coincidence but lewis had issues with the car that season.

Maybe lucky isnt the right word. I rate Nico as a driver, hes had Hamilton and Schmacher as teammates and held his own.

I have no doubt that somewhere in the Mercedes machinery they were glad a german driver won the WDC for Mercedes. But i dont buy into any conspiracy theories. The only what if is, if Mercedes hadn't of swapped the car crews around that season would lewis of had as many dnf's and car gremlins and would he have been WDC that year instead of nico who knows?

I think Russell is a bit special, yet interestingly both he and Norris come across as likeable, without the slightly arrogant aura of the likes of Max and Lewis.
I always find it funny how people see others differently. For me, Russell has the most arrogance of anyone on the grid.. There's more than a hint of "I deserve this" about him.

Norris hides it much better of course, but you know full well there's not a single person in F1 who's not an arrogant prick. Well, maybe Albon, but that's why he's shit.

What? How you could ever reach that conclusion about Russell is baffling to me. No disrespect but I strongly suspect there is an unconscious bias beneath that somewhere.

I like Russell. But I sense the same arrogance underneath. Not just with him but with most F1 drivers. I don't believe it is bias to think that. Quite the opposite, there is alot of PR/marketing in F1, so public images are handled well.

It takes nothing away from the sport. In fact, it adds to it.

I think any competitive sportsmen or woman has a driven personality which exudes confidence and arrogance. That’s characteristic in one degree or another in all professional sports. So I try instead to compare to other elites within the sport.

You’re right though. Maybe Russell telling his team to ruin his strategy if needed for Latifi, or how he interacts with his team when he makes a mistake, is all a facade. It very well could be. I sense it’s authentic. But I could also be wrong.

Perhaps I was unfair @Camilo

Thanks but none of those except one are f1 style and the one that is, works only with pc
Oh didnt realise you were after f1 style wheel. Theres a few about, more costly. Never checked if any were ps5 compatible.

Personally ive always wanted one of these setups at home:

https://images.app.goo.gl/ju6AvU93UsKxo4wn8

Especially one where you feet and body position are in the same position as they would be in a F1 car.

I think these use fanatec wheels and the frame I guess you can get custom build.

I have never found Russell to be even remotely arrogant, always seen him as been pleasant and likable.

The "There's more than a hint of "I deserve this" , I can see what you mean, he has worked for it, waited for his chance and thinks he deserves it, dont we all think like that, if we have worked at something and get promoted.

Each to their own. For me he's the most arrogant driver on the grid.

And no, I don't think that, just because you've worked hard you deserve something. None of us "deserve" anything. We get what we earn.

Russell is quicker than Bottas so he's there on merit imo, he's arguably one of the quickest over one lap on the grid. I think he'll surprise a lot of people next season.

You seem to be confusing confidence with arrogance. All top sportsmen are assured of themselves. Self belief is very important.

Russell has shown many times he's a team player and has put Williams ahead of his own personal gain at times. Just a very poor judgement I would say.

What's this track like for overtaking?
I think Monza is one of the best tracks for overtaking, 11 corners, with 7 of those coming as chicanes.
Monza suits the Mercedes low rake car more that the RB high rake car.
Also gives the less experienced drivers a chance to get a feel for high-speed corners without punishing too much if an incorrect line is taken.
Looking forward to a decent race, I even this the sprint race will work here.

I wonder if RB will take the engine penalty at monza then. They havent got enough engines to last the season due to the accidents. At some GP soon they have to take a penalty and introduce engien number 4. Monza might be the best place for it. Lots of overtaking opportunities for max to work his way back up the grid.

Monza isn't great with the modern cars.

The only real over taking section is the first corner after the main straight, but that all depends on DRS.

There's a small chance of overtaking into the chicanes mid way around the track, but it's not a high level of overtaking.

Always found Monza one of the better races, fair point about modern cars.
On the plus side, looks like no rain this weekend, dry and hot.

Last years race had barely any natural over takes without cars out of position due to the red flags. Obviously you'll get a few but it's not going to be madness like some are expecting.

I bet you in the sprint race there will be a maximum of 5 overtakes.

You could be right, just hoping it will be a decent race.
Dutch GP was in a cracking setting , but a pretty dull race.

I'm not confusing anything. I wouldn't have written it if I didn't mean it. Why would you think otherwise?! Bizarre.

Give us one example of him being arrogant? I'd love to hear it.

Oh fecking hell, I forgot too.
Yep, I really hope this one goes badly tbh.

Everybody was making such a song and dance of it at Silverstone and acted like like it went amazing. Apart from Alonso's early lap heroics it was pretty poor.
It has potential to be better, but the way they're using it right now is crap IMO.

You don't have to be outwardly arrogant to be arrogant. I'm not sure there's a single F1 driver on the grid you could say is obviously arrogant; they all toe the team line on camera.

He definitely thinks he's special though, I think he's pretty transparent.

Him saying "Perhaps if I was another driver, he wouldn't have done that" about Bottas in Imola was very arrogant. He did take responsibility the next day for his actions (after a bollocking from Toto) which was nice to see and I don't think he's any more arrogant than the average F1 driver but there's been some signs of arrogance.

Does anyone know what time qualifying starts tomorrow? I can't seem to find it on the Sky Sports website, and hope I'm back from work on time.

The show starts on sky at 16:20. So I guess around 5ish?

EDIT - I was beaten to it, by 5 minutes

wouldn’t say that’s arrogant personally.

everybody knows that russell was his main rival for the seat and his point is maybe bottas was defending harder than usual because it’s him.

I don’t think that was an unfair thing to say - but was obviously told to publicly back down to save face. he said what he believed true in the heat of the moment.

Thank you, didn't realise the sprint would start so late either thought it would be at 2pm so that's helped!

Fortunately will be back from work on time unless traffic is beyond awful

Hope it's an exciting race, shame it won't be raining.

George Russell in the Press Conference
Q: "Did you recommend [Albon] to the bosses?"
GR: "I definitely told the guys who I'd thought would be best suited. I know it was very close between he and Nyck de Vries, and to be honest I was quite clear saying whoever you get in the seat would do a really good job. Obviously, offering different things, and I think Alex with his experience managed to tip the scales in his favor, but you know, Alex is a fantastic driver. He had a tough time at Red Bull, but I think he's going to come back even stronger, and you know, he's always been there and everything he's ever done, and I'm sure the environment at Williams is going to suit him to a tee, and he's going to perform really well. Happy for him."
