He didn't play that role in an Ajax team though, atleast not that much. He was usually an 8 and later a ten.

He is nowhere good enough in a sitting role, it doesn't suit his style.

If it did, he would've been called ip
He can definitely play that role and I think it will be his best position in this team. He’s not good enough at 10 that’s for sure.

    Hope he gets his chance.

Dunno why everyone is smitten with VDB he's been bang average whenever given the opportunity to play.
He has, the dissapointing thing for me is that he has never gotten an extended run of games together to show if he has what it takes. Especially, when you consider how many chances Lingard, Bailly, Martial, James etc have been given and contually put in velow average performances.

For fans in Ireland and the U.K. it’s on Premier Sports 1.
I would imagine Premier Sports is different in the ROI and thus it wouldn't be broadcast on the British version. If you can find a way to get the Irish version of it then yes, you can watch the match.

Donny can play as a 6. That’s where he started with Ajax. Bit of knowledge on your own players wouldn’t go amiss.
His interview where he said that is the equivalent of when you say you’re ‘proficient in all Office products’ when all you know how to do is a few = formulas on Excel.

Guy is never a 6. He doesn’t have the passing range from deep, he doesn’t intercept or tackle at a particularly impressive rate, he doesn’t win aerial duels, he doesn’t sit in front and screen a defence — those just aren’t parts of his game to successfully play that position. He’s good at drifting around and finding spaces, doing cute one twos, leaving the creativity to the other guys in the team. He’s like a free roaming no.8. At his best, an Aaron Ramsey/Davy Klaassen type of midfielder.

With all the concerns over our CM options, is there any possibility Hanibal may get a place on the bench? I know he is more of an attacking midfielder but just think if we manage to get a comfortable lead in the game we could give him a few minutes to play. Would boost his confidence, imagine him being on same field as Ronaldo... amazing

I suspect Ole will be pretty straight forward when he is asked about if Ronaldo is starting or not. The presser is tomorrow.

    I think that he starts.

want to see ronaldo start. Dont care how much training he has had with the group ha. The effect of having in the lineup should be enough to just will this team to a victory.

My guess is we play Ronaldo and still get a 1-1 draw after a non existent midfield performance. I'm used to it by now.

Fred is banned from playing in Saturday's game. Team is announced. Fred still lines up in CM with Donny on the bench.
The way this has played out;it’s a massive feck off to the Glazers and the buying of DVB. It appears that it was never his signing and ole is making a huge point IMO

He got fewer minutes than Dan James last season. And it was James' second season of being absolutely bang average and yet getting chance after chance.

So yeah, nothing bizarre about it. It's baffling how he's been treated. I don't know if he could ever live up to the demands of United but he definitely didn't get anything resembling a fair chance.
    Exactly. Ole: "I demand excellence."
Also Ole: "Dan James, Fred, you guys are starting. Donny, sorry pal."

Yes, I think the narrative is "Ronaldo scores on home debut" to shut up the critics and naysayers and ABUs. If he starts on the bench he has less time to make it happen. Let him score, then take him off to ovation.

Whether Cavani or Ronaldo start in the middle, Ole should flank with Martial and Greenwood. Probably not a popular choice considering Martial's last season but, till Sancho gets a few more games under his belt, probably a better starting choice.

Rest of starting XI, Bruno, Poba Matic, Shaw, Maguire, Varane, AWB, DDG.

Cavani, Sancho, VDB to come off the bench once Ronaldo gets his hattrick.

Is this going to be shown in full on sky sports game of the day ? I'm tempted to block all sources of media in my house on Saturday and watch it at half 8 as if it was live.

This is too big of a game to be fecking about with dodgy streams.

Kind of hopeful that all this pre game amazing vibes don't dampen down with a draw or a loss. There seems to be too much of Ronaldo talk and the official Twitter account has gone off its hinges.

It will be hard I admit

The last time I did something similar we played city in 2012/2013 and I was working nights so I recorded the match and kept my phone and radios off all night and got 8 cans on the way home and watched it at 8 in the morning, and what a game that was. Van Persie free kick for the winner I think.

Here's hoping for another good result. :smirk:

I'm going to feel a bit for Brucie. Great servant for us and returning to OT only for Ronaldo's return to be the talking point and his team are going to get it.
