I would hope he's more match-ready than Rashford at this point, yes. Big problem if he's not!

Anyway, lovely finish today. Sancho isn't up and running yet so good to see him on the board for the season.

To start? You could arguee hes more ready than sancho who has started slow even in the bundisliga last 2 seasons.. but with the money and potential of sancho hes gotta get the chances and time.. lingard definitely deserves to be in the squad. And getting minutes. Starting in the games we need depth for sure.

He’s kind of shite really isnt he. Scores a nice goal once every 36 months and he thinks he’s suddenly Messi :lol:

looking forward to 24 more months of no goal or assist

He made a good case for himself today, specially when it's looking like Sancho might need some time.

Four years in the newbies. Why do you think that is?

Maybe because you make shite posts?

I'd wager you'll be in there for many more years.

It should never be about deserving to start, his level of talent isnt good enough to consistently displace better players. He can be trusted to start games when we need to rest players or in minor competitions, but he should not really be considered for a starting spot based on the people ahead of him.

You’ve posted 1000 times and got 10 reactions. I posted 70 and got 1. I think my ratio is fine compared to yours so Maybe just maybe im a newbie because i rarely post. But the quality of your posts is probably dross lad.

He is god awful and doesn’t deserve to start. I’ve seen this pattern and similar reactions 2 and 3 years ago. There’s no future for Lingard in this team especially with so many good options and promising young lads.

When he came on today he played as the left sided attacker. From all our players i would prefer Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho, Martial and Pogba over Lingard to start a game from that position.

Ronaldo will start as the most forward attacker, Sancho can play on the right and Pogba can play as midfielder. Martial can play as the striker.

The attacking midfielder position is Bruno his position and i would also prefer van der Beek or Pogba there over Lingard.

On the right side Greenwood and Sancho are players that i prefer to start over Lingard. Rashford has also started games from there, he is a better player than Lingard too.

For me Lingard is the second or third option subsitution for almost all front position. Usually a position taken by a young talented player but Lingard wants to stay (im sure there was interest in him since he did great at West Ham) and take that squad role. It does take away minutes from Diallo for example, i would still prefer to see him sold for a good amount of money to a club where he could start every week. That money will help getting an midfielder to replace Matic.

So no, he does not deserve to start. Maybe some smaller games or to rest other players but at all the position he can play at there are multiple better options to start.

What are you even talking about. I've been a full member for quite some time so obviously, my 1000 posts have nothing to do with the 10 likes that got me here. Do you not understand how the likes system works?

But then, thanks for proving my point.

Enjoy your stay down there.

Why not? It should be fine for him to start as long as he earns it. This is the best thing about having a big squad, having players like him ready to make an impact when given a chance. Nobody should be guaranteed a spot even if out of form.

Weather he should start right now or not is tonight to decide but one thing is for sure..having him in the squad is a luxury and he will play an important part if we are to challenge on four fronts this year. Feels like the old days where we have ‘squad’ players who would easily be the best player in teams in that 6-10 part of the table. Jesse proved that last year.

Our squad is unbelievable and it’s just a case of Ole being cute and using players for the right type of games. Away at City or Chelsea I’d trust him to do a job more so than Sancho right now. However 90% of the games obviously I’d rather start Sancho.

Possibly until McTominay comes back and Pogba can move back over there. Sancho isn’t too far off but not an automatic starter at this point.

Agree the post you quoted was shite, but to be fair to him, you get likes for exceptional posts.

Allegedly you can also get likes for consistent posting as long as they aren’t all shite… In my experience this is very rarely true.

For the attacking midfield role, Bruno and Pogba should be ahead at least.

For the left - Sancho, Pogba, Rashford should be ahead at least. Arguably Martial too although he's not popular at the minute, he'll likely be far more productive over the course of a season than Lingard would be.

For the right - Greenwood and Sancho should be ahead.

Now, if any of the players ahead of him have shockingly poor form then maybe that pecking order would change, but on talent and productivity shown throughout their careers Lingard should be nowhere near our 11 when all players are fit. He was always a player we should be looking to upgrade even at his best under LVG/Mourinho - since then we've had the whole no goals/assists in 12 months, having to be loaned out at 28 years of age, and he's had a good 10 minute cameo off the bench today and now there's calls for him to start? I don't see it.

He looked a different player when he came on today. His performance defines the quality in the depth of our present squad. Ole could have a problem on his hands keeping everyone happy!

Lingard deserves to just where he is: First man to be subbed on.

Here is my take on the Lingard situation. Previously he was being played because we didn’t have anyone else better. Martial was having a bad season, Mata was inconsistent, Periera was not good enough. Bruno came in, and Pogba started getting minutes out wide, plus we had Cavani last season.

He goes out on loan and does well. Finds his form again and seems to have carried it into this season. The club didn’t want to give him away for peanuts and he wanted to be back in his boyhood club. Can’t fault either party for that. However, now we have Ronaldo, Rashford, Cavani, Sancho, Greenwood, and Bruno. He won’t be first choice out of any of them but he will get his minutes as a sub. Thought he did okay today and had a nice finish for the goal. If he’s. It happy with his playing time he’ll go out on loan in January or be sold. Simple as that.

Until Rashford and Cavani are back... Or if Pogba is playing from the left... In which case Jesse will be 3rd or 4th attacking sub... Competing with Martial, Van De Beek and a couple youngsters (and Mata lol).

Whatever the opinion of him is, we all have to admit that he has scored some dreamy goals, and today's effort will no doubt find it's way on to his next highlight reel.

It's either famine or feast with him, though. He has to figure out a way of being a consistent threat.

In his defence, most people thought he was finished when he went to West Ham and plenty were expecting him to be benched. He showed resilience to get himself back in limelight.

As far as United goes though the jury will remain out on him until he has found consistency. He won't be starting every week like at West Ham, so it's a different ball game. Maybe he's better suited to being a big fish in a small pond.

I find it a bit strange that anybody would have such a strong opinion either way on Lingard. He's clearly not "shite" or any such description, in fact, his loan speaks against this because even if you didn't take that he was a decent player from being at our club his whole footballing career, the fact is he went to a mid table side and was immediately one of their best players.

This doesn't mean he's anything other than a fair way off our best XI, but it tells you he's at a level that he can contribute when needed. He's always been a tidy footballer hasn't he? It's not like he's a scrappy player, his main problem has been contributing enough in the final third for this club. He hasn't really got that consistently, and he's streaky thrown into the bargain.

Never been a fan of his, but his cameo was very good yesterday. His touch and movement was of a high level. Energy levels great as usual. Also the little shift to the right before the finish was just great. Well done to him.

Here is hoping he is actually more mature and better after his Westham performances. Ole really forced him to perform. His United career was almost over.

Nope, I'm still of the opinion he shouldn't be anywhere near the match day squad and this one cameo doesn't change that opinion.

If he starts, he's faced with exactly what Sancho was faced with, a Newcastle who was time wasting from the 1st minute of the game, a Newcastle who set out to defend with 11 men and not have the ball.

Jesse only looked "good" because he came on against a tired defence and a defence that wasn't as compact and disciplined as earlier on in the game.

Given what Sancho is showing and the improvement curve he's on, with a new team and league, I don't see Jesse being anywhere near displacing Sancho (once Sancho is up to speed).

Once Martial was subbed on, Jesse went back to his old habits of occupying spaces where our players already were (i.e. he drifted back to the centre, Bruno's spot, and left flank, Martial's spot). Even his goal, he was behind Martial, it was Martial's awareness that Martial played the dummy and left the ball for Jesse

No, he doesn't. Well taken goal today. Bring him in on the left or right, just not centrally, late in a game.

Ronaldo Cavani Jesse would be my front three in Champions league and EPL games vs top 6.
