Yeah 2 posts in an hour when he does something good but when he does something bad we’re flooded with 40 posts in an hour.
So when you say never you don't mean never right?

You will see it in a lot of threads, there is a lot more activity when something negative happens

Martial did well today and will get more 'love's when he does this consistently. 90℅ of it, isn't personal on here

Thought he looked sharp and did mostly everything right when he was involved like the clever dummy for lingard goal.
We've had three phantom assists like this in the past year.

VDB for Greenwood against Everton.

Bruno for Greenwood against Burnley and now this one

He enables us to play liquid football, such an underrated footballer.
Never got the obsession about him not smiling either, so weird

I'm hoping Ronnie's return will light a fire under his arse. He's the sort that needs one.
Or he’ll sulk , decision time for him . I reckon he’ll be moved on next season , he won’t want to be on the bench for the season

Pardew 'wanted pace'
Came on, drifted into midfield to take the ball from Pogba, returned a hospital pass back. Took the ball on the sideline, tried to pass, intercepted, jogged back even though he'd only been on the pitch 2 minutes

That dummy for the lingard goal is basically an assist. A moral assist (like that time mhkitaryan was morally onside against Sunderland)

Yes at least he could have taken the pass instead of the dummy. His decision was good. He is going to play a decent number of games.

Think he needs to slim down a bit, which seems to be happening.
He's looked very weighty for some time now, where he doesn't have the same burst of pace or athleticism.
Good for the Lingard goal yesterday though.

He was bulked after he switched to no 9 role.

Really up to him now. Not sure he will finally make that final step up but if he does not, he just wont play. Competition is crazy now

I'm not writing him off at all but I wonder what his transfer value would be right now? It's probably a testament to how strange he is as a player that anything north of 40 million would probably be unrealistic but 25-30 million would feel like a steal if he gets back to the form we know he can produce.

Dan James just went for 30M, Martial is comfortably the better and more valuable player.

No one doubts his talent. It’s the fact that we’ve seen what he’s capable of that makes him so frustrating.

I'd take 50M and run. So many better options that contribute on both ends and can make a 10 foot pass. Somehow he has Ole's eye and continues to get minutes. I hope it means he's working his brains out on the practice fields.

I don't see it for him here at the club now that we're kinda stacked up front with plenty of options. Rashford's healthy return will likely spell the end of Anthony getting any meaningful minutes. (or at least i hope so... nothing personal to Anthony, as i wish him well, just don't think he'll be of the quality to get us where we need to go).

His future for the club is in his own hands, he has more than enough quality to be part of this team as far as I'm concerned.

I’m not convinced he’s significantly better to be honest
You're definitely taking the piss if you dont think he is better. I will have whatever you're having please.
There's even a debate if Dan James if a premier league player.
Martial's best season from the wing will never be best by Dan fecking James.

Martial doesn’t fit the criteria of being a homegrown player boosting the price and comes at a cost of over £10m a year in wages. That affects transfer fees whether you want to pretend otherwise or not.

I mean you say that but Dan James has done more than Martial in the last 12 months. Martial's value has plummeted due to his performances and his high salary. We'd have to sell him on the cheap for someone to take his salary on.

James was sold as a young player who is fast and works hard, without much end product. With the exception of last season, Martial has got over 10 goals every season since he was 19, playing for Manchester United under high pressure. If Martial gets sold it will be to a team who expect him to be their top scorer. It would not be a surprise if Martial went to Spurs or West Ham or the like and scored 20 goals. Martial is clearly worth more than James, and it's a pretty contrarian argument to say otherwise.

I remember how much it knocked him when Alexis joined, so I'm not optimistic that Ronaldo and Sancho coming in will 'light a fire'

Hope I'm wrong. We all like Martial and we all know how good he can be but it's all down to him now. It's a fork in the road.

Well, I can't blame him in that case. He was a top 3 performer and got shunned to the right wing to accommodate a terrible Sanchez. In the end he came out of that battle the winner and performed. However, I don't think he will take over either from Sancho or CR7. I mean Sancho has not looked great so far, but he's too talented to not figure it out soon. I expect both Rashford and Martial (to a higher extent) to suffer from this but Martial only has himself to blame.

Ah yes, like we sold Lukaku on the cheap after his terrible season.

Hopefully can get a start tonight and bag a few, been content with his recent cameos but would like to see if he has it in him to do it over the course of a full game.

That doesn’t mean he would go for a bigger transfer fee. If you think that you’re more clueless than you first appear. Was Ben White more valuable than Varane?

More valuable than James or not, we're not the United of the past 5 years now, we have (reasonably) higher ambitions.

Its just my strong opinion that I simply don't think he belongs on the pitch in a team that has the highest ambitions. In a rebuilding team of a few years ago, we brought in a teenager hoping he'd grow into a top player and that was reasonable strategy. At this point he shows so many deficiencies relative to top performing players that I can't seem to see his positives thru these negatives. I'll admit that I have that tendency to get frustrated with a player and then can't see the postives. To be fair, I put the TV on my office and put on highlights of last few years, and he's scored some fun goals for us at times.

I just think his work rate, his lack of proper movement to connect with our current attackers, his lack of vision, his inability to consistently connect even simple passes, just drives me to drinking.

Trying to be fair in my analysis..... but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and he's lost my eye for sure over the past few years.

Martial looks like a footballer who has lost the joy of playing the game. We know he has the talent to be a world class footballer but the application of that talent is appalling. That has to change.

Fecking hell! His last few performances for club and country have been encouraging but all you see here is negativity. I don't get you people.

They just come in here to have a little moan. Irrelevant of what's actually happening. Just a convenient punching bag for people's frustration. Case in point...

Do you regard Martial’s recent performances to be tantalizingly close to his peak form for United?

Take care not to overlook what posters are actually saying, which is that Martial has proven in the past to be a great footballer but that he’s fallen way off the proven ability.

He's working his way back to form. Last game he was on the pitch for 10 minutes and was involved in a great team goal with a nice dummy. That's why it's a strange time to declare that he's "lost the joy of playing football" - it looks more like he's rediscovering the jot of playing football to me.

I consider his recent performances to be an improvement and no grounds to have a moan about him. Having a moan about him now is out of context.

I’ve not seen anyone get tantalisingly close to their peak 3-4 games after their return from a 6 month absence. So I don’t expect it of Martial either. Do you?
