Let's wait to see how he performs in other games. He had to deal with Traore and then S-Maximin. It's possible he was told to prioritize defending... Either way, it's a bit early to be writing him off...
I'm not writing him off. I'm saying that they need to work on it.

When he was at Palace he was attacking the oppositions penalty area. He has stopped doing that now, and I don't think that he has been asked to hang back, because we keep passing the ball out wide to him. Forwards are making runs like they are expecting a cross.

Dalot has a wicked cross on him, but is less defensively minded. AWB needs to grasp the nettle and work those overlapping runs and crosses back into his game.

He can be frustrating, but he did have one lovely pass into the area that none of the forwards were alert to (I think it even got an approving clap from Ronaldo.) as well as one trademark sliding tackle (which elicited the usual 'telescopic legs' comment from Peter Drury.)

The thing is, he is not that great defensively. He is awesome at tackling (honestly, might be the best tackler in football) and 1 on 1 situations, but he is pretty poor (or at best case, average) in everything else: positioning, in the air, running back etc.
I agree to a certain degree but to me has shown definite improvements in many of those areas and being paired with a much more calm and decisive cb in varane will only Improve him further or at the very least let his best qualities shine more
The defensive reliability he gives against sides which rely on their left winger can't be overstated . Last year i felt assured watching our games against psg and city and that's a high praise to give
That clearance against Wolves was good and should be appreciated. But having said that, if we had any half decent DM in there instead of Fred, that sequence of play wouldn't have resulted in a great chance for Wolves.

What that chance showed was our inadequacies in midfield highlighting the strength of Wan Bissaka.
I concur having a proper cdm or at least mcfred wouldn't have our defense getting cut open so prevalent seeing the disaster class Fred was having
But that's kinda of the point we don't have that luxury and the clamor for starting dalot (who was harpooned here consistently) can only highlight his defensive shortcomings seeing how little support he will get from midfield

To me awb is undropable for the time being even with all of his shortcomings and messing with that position has the risk of us giving a defensive disasterclass

Hope he got them mistakes out of his system now can't cost us more points with the run of games we have coming up

Been too forgiving about him in the past but that's so frustrating to watch, first the heavy touch and then the unnecessary tackle.

Shame that Ole won't try Dalot more often because he looked fine.

Lost us the game basically. Needs to be dropped for a few games as he is in terrible form.

Been saying for a long time, his lack of ability on the ball far outweighs his pros 1-v-1.

Will never be good enough.

In about 5 games time he'll put in a semi decent cross, and people will say he's improving.

Time to give Dalot a run of games, to see what happens.

He needs to learn quicker than he is. Players get sent off all the time though, its part of the game and we were unlucky to suffer it so early on. He's to blame for the loss but it was a small error that done it.

I warmed up to him a bit last season - still thought he had glaring weaknesses, but was improving a bit - but he's had a completely horrific start to the season on both ends.

Just me who thinks that's a soft red then?

It's a stupid tackle to attempt given the apparent rule change. Really it's the rule change I'm against. I'm all for bringing physicality back to the game like we're seeing in the PL this season.

I don't care start Dalot. He is an actual footballer. May help Sancho out too as he actually needs an attacking fullback on his side to build up attacks.

Stuck up for him for ages but he’s been poor this season. Needs to sort himself out or I’d keep giving Dalot a go.

This is hilarious cause it’s true.

A prime example of people rating him because he plays for us; if he played for Arsenal we’d be taking the piss.

Have much less issue with the red card than with the evident technical flaws that have been a consistent hindrance.

Even player with great technique could get that sort of red following a miscontrol (pretty sure Pogba has done similar, for example) but the fact that it was emblematic of his flaws as a footballer just sharpens the criticism. He wasn't playing well before the red either.

Hes been so bad this season. 0 intensity in his game. Poor defensively to start the season. Providing 0 on the ball as usual. Needs to ride the bench for a while even aside from the suspension he'll have now.

Made a bad mistake today. But that can happen.

I don’t rate him though. He’s got way too many limitations for a starting Man Utd right back. He’s like bambi on the ball and beyond last ditch tackling the rest of his defensive game isn’t sound.

Not good enough. Brainless and technically limited. Makes a banging compilation of tackling YouTube videos though.

Red Card completely ruined the game for us.

Ole and lingard played their parts too but it all stems from AWB not being able to control a simple fecking pass.

It's soft, but it's a red in the rule book.

I will always try to support the players, I will not revel in his poor display. But he has had a stinker of a start to the season, for a player who despite not being a superb marauding full back, is solid, reliable and occasionally has a good moment in a forward position, he looks totally out of sorts. The red card today just compounds his current form. I hope he can get back to his best soon, we are not blessed with great back up full backs.

Can't have such a technically limited player starting week in week out. He won't get replaced for years though as we paid 50M for him and he's young.

It was an unfortunate accident. Shit mistake but he'll have to move on from it.

The people hoping Dalot replaces him are not unlike those hoping Brandon Williams replaced Shaw. Sure, you could find one or two qualities where he was better at one point in time, but he's clearly an inferior player overall, and more importantly he clearly isn't the long-term solution. If we need better than AWB we need much better than Dalot. And I do think we need better than AWB.

Not so sure about that just yet. But yes, his been very poor this season. Dalot should get some games now and hopefully he will never look back.

Dalot needs a run in the side now. AWB has been poor all season, and tonight summed it up. More worryingly, he doesn't seem to be improving.

I'm really tired of him. Does not belong at a big club and if he were to leave now, he would not go to Real Madrid or Liverpool, he would go to Crystal Palace.
