I don't think there's anything wrong with saying his legs are tired. He's 36, he's obviously going to play accordingly. Him jogging around whilst Bruno sprinted past him to press Newcastle players highlights that, conserving his energy is exactly why when the time comes he can still hit 32kmh.
Are you sure theres no age bias here with you noticing him "jogging around" but not other attackers?

I'm sure he has modified his game but twice we won the ball due to Ronaldo's pressing.

He presses when he thinks he can get the ball. He doesn't press when it might pressure players into rushing their next pass. There were plenty of occasions where younger players ran right past him to close somebody down.

Not saying it's a bad thing as he should be conserving his energy. He's not 23 anymore.

I think what you're saying is probably generally true but I 100% remember a situation where him and Sancho pressed together and Sancho got the ball so I don't think it is that binary to him. Maybe he does it less often but he for sure still takes part in the overall team pressing as proved with Sancho winning the ball back.

If stats prove I'm wrong then it's another story, because I myself was a little surprised with how much he was pressing.

First of all I am not criticising Ronaldo in here. Secondly no one picked a goalie over him even if it is your example. Sarri is better than most of premier league managers. I give you pirlo even though he was a rookie. Let’s tell facts instead of defending a player over Club, bigger and more popular. Lastly the season has just started.
The fact Juve went from Buffon to Szczesny is an example of how, over time, your squad has been downgraded. You can take a number of players in the Juve squad, compare them to the players they replaced, and make a similar comparison.

The idea that Ronaldo has held Juventus back, which seemed to be what you were implying, just does not stand up to evidence. The quality of Juventus' squad has been getting worse and worse in recent years. As I said before, without Ronaldo's goals, Juve would have fallen behind Inter earlier than you did.

Sarri might be a good coach but he was not a good coach for Juventus' squad. It was obvious, to everyone, that Sarri's deliberate, passing style would not suit the Juventus team built to work with Allegri's reactive football. The appointment of Sarri is just another example of the bad decision making at Juventus in recent seasons. If you have a squad put together for a particular style of football, and you are either unable or unwilling to make major investments so the squad can go in a different direction, it makes no sense to get a coach who doesn't fit your players. Juve would have done a lot better finding a more pragmatic coach who could work with what he had. Rather than an idealist like Sarri.

Tired in what sense? Is he massively more immobile than other Premier League forwards? Yes, he picks his moments. That's because he is older. Nobody is denying that age has had some impact on him. However, when the moment calls for it he can still be as dynamic as most strikers in the top flight. I mean, to be frank, to the eye, there's little difference between Ronaldo up front and Martial. Martial isn't exactly busting a gut to close down defenders either. Its just Ronaldo can do everything Martial does better.

I remember the last days of Rooney's career at United, when he looked half the player he was at his peak. To me that's what a player looks like when their legs have gone. Compared to that Ronaldo looks like he's got years yet to go.

Well, good goal and fairly decent otherwise. Hope hed have stayed on his feet when he was 1v1 with the defender in the box.

I thought it was a penalty :nervous:
Or should have been a penalty.

Nice finish for the goal. I am shocked we subbed him as early as we did. I guess it was to save his legs. But then, surely you gotta still have an oulet (though I guess thats for another thread).

Well he's got 3 in 2 from open play. Some thought he'd only get 6-8 goals from open play all season.

Hopefully today was a major anomaly for the season and we look better vs West Ham as a team.

This isn't the same club as the one he left though

He's probably thinking to himself why the hell I came back. Hopefully for him he has some go out clause in his contract.

Think he'd scored at least 1 more if it was 11v11. Such a shame after a good start to a game and 1-0 lead.

I thought he should’ve come off earlier, even at half time. You need someone who can run their heart out, chase balls down, run the channels and track back when your down to 10 men and have very little possession.

Maybe the memes can come true and he actually does manage us. Can't be worse than the current lot.

He did his job tonight but he should have come off when we went a man down.

Actually think he'd have had a better chance of getting a penalty if he'd stayed on his feet.

He might have actually got a shot off.

Still 3 in 2 is brilliant, let's hope he puts West Ham to the sword on Sunday.

A defensive game is not a game for our Ronny. He probably hasn't gotten 'stuck in' since about 2007

No. If he’s not injured you leave him on no matter what. He is the greatest winner of all time, just a couple of weeks ago he scored two to win it in injury time for his country.

He's only played 90 minutes twice this season. He's not even fully fit but he's still delivering the goods.
I know but I can't imagine he'll turn into a Cavani with pressing. It's a huge problem in my opinion because I don't think we can cover for him. He basically walks when we're not in possession. Bruno has been running like a madman these past 2 games trying to protect the lines. It will ultimately lead to Bruno losing impact in attack.

Not true again. We haven’t won anything special with him. You can hate Juventus as much as you like but facts are facts. It seems like you are mixing reality with fantasy.

Timing was fine and not an issue. We just needed an outlet and it should have been Mason or martial not lingard.

As for ronaldo he's doing well for us. I think ole is worried about burning him out given how awesome he is at getting us goals

Shame we didn't have Cavani or Rashford

Did nothing except for that tap in. But at least he got a goal. Our entire team sort of vanished after the red card.

Let's not do that to us, surely?

And we'll qualify. It's not a difficult group

That's what modern Ronaldo is. You can't expect lot of things from him but he will get you goals. Crucial goals.

He did a few other things. Like passing a good ball to Sancho in a space and he messed up the attack etc..

Alright that one or two passes hen. Not much though. But it's to be expected. Maybe when down to 10 men Cavani could have been a better option (not sure if he was fit)?

Other than our inability to pass the ball I thought we lacked pace when down to 10 men. It was basically a lot of CMs and Ronaldo.

Somewhere in your mind, touching a nerve
Can we just sign more Portuguese players? They seem to have more passion and desire that the rest of the cnuts we have. Even Dalot when he came on was decent and showed more character than the rest.

Ronnie looked so annoyed after the game.
