Its injuries that he will be competing with. Ronaldo and Messi were not only scoring at an incredibly consistent rate, they were both very lucky with injuries. Obviously they worked hard for most of that luck but impact injuries are unavoidable and they mostly avoided them. Haaland will be very lucky to do the same.
Here is hoping he stays clear of injuries like the other two!

Its his insane record in the CL that makes me less apprehensive about him, compared to Sancho. We are all seeing that stats/performances in Bundesliga dont translate to PL with Sancho.

He’s played 220 minutes of football for a new team.

Sancho has just started playing, what are you talking about?! Give the guy half a season at least. If you’re feeling really generous you can give him a season

My point was less about Sancho and more about the gap between PL and Bundesliga, as seen through other players like Havertz, Kagawa, Mkhitaryan etc who have needed time to adapt. I think Sancho will come good too, y'all are so defensive about it though.

Other players didn’t need time. It’s down to the individual, not the difference between PL and Buli.

without derailing the thread, I think the big issue Sancho has is he played in a team with a purpose at Dortmund, he knew his role and what he was supposed to do as the team played with a functioning plan, I'm not sure Ole plays with a tactical plan as such, it's more down to the individuals and I think he suffers in that respect, time will tell though, he's a decent player so should come good either way.

I do wonder if managers like Ole are aware about how some players only perform well with very clear and detailed instructions before buying such players.

It's his consistency that's most astonishing to me. He scores or assists at least one goal in nearly every game he plays. Last season there were only 8 games where he didn't contribute to a goal in some way.

That was sensational movement. Not the movement itself but how quickly he made the move, in a fraction of a second instinctively, to give Bellingham the only option possible.

He scares the daylight out of me. It's a shame I'll never see him in a Bayern shirt, he'll dominate scoring tables for the next 14 years barring injuries.

With Sancho there also was an injury, and coming late in. For the Leeds match he wasn't fit at all. Makes zero sense to bring him into PL vs BL discussion as of yet.

Ole seems to focus on building players self confidence and the "express yourself" thing. I don't really know enough about his tactical abilities. This sure is a "prove it" season. With Haaland he was a hands on coach in the Molde days. "He has had a huge impact on my life, both as a person and as a trainer" (Haaland).

He looks like half the baddies I imagined when reading Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy.

These players don't exist, it's a myth.

I find it baffling people still can't see players going to PSG, have you not paid attention to the last 10 years? I think anybody has a chance at Haaland because with his young age he can make several moves still, and PSG are one of the front-runners IMO.
I can't see him go to PSG either. Not because they aren't a great team, but because of the league. "I have dreamed of playing for the best clubs in the world my whole life, and I especially like English football.” His team has been planning his career carefully so far. They're gonna continue doing that. PSG isn't a clear enough step upwards. Well, except for the money.

He's had 182 minutes of PL football. That's a total of 2 games! Welcome to redcafe.

15 mins - Coming on in a game we comfortably won
31 mins - Brought on in last 30 mins of tough away game
71 mins - Contributed to a tough away game win
65 mins - Played well in a comfortable home win

Exactly!

He has 7 years advantage!

I fully expect him to break the record. He is insane at his age.

He averages almost a goal a game if not more for club and country and in the CL.
Really depends on how many games he would play, which also depends on how far his team progress every year. For example, I reckon he will need another 120-130 more goals to break the record (assume Ronaldo will score another 10-15+ in next 3 seasons). Assume he average scores around 10 goals per season (he scored 10 each over past 2 season), he would still need 12-13 years to match that. By then he would be 33-34, which is still achievable actually. But whether he could keep up that long, or stay injury free for that long, or his team would keep progressing that long, is another question. There are so many factors.

You’re worried already and he’s just got started. See? This is why scoring records don’t matter. They’re there to be broken. Pele has recently lost his South American international record, his goals for one club record and his official goals record. IMO, the players that broke those records are still not as good as he was.

There is no way he goes to PSG at this stage of his career. Going there at 22 would be a massive speedbump in his career and would immediately take him out of any Ballon d'or discussion, Hall of fame glory and mark him as a "in it only for the money alone"-player, and he knows this. With the 2 spanish giants on their way down from the undisputed top, there is a very good chance he'll come to England (City and us with the best chances)

He is an animal. He will break records if he keeps injury free for the most part. His hunger and determination on the pitch, an absolute freak.

I said it when he first played for Dortmund, but he reminds me of young Rooney in the way he plays it at sich a young age, only he is even more hungry for goals and maximises his potential fitness and body wise.

Haaland at Molde is not the monster he is now.

What do you mean? Of course he has a chance to break it, but he would need over a decade of consistency/longevity/luck to have a chance, so its really hard to tell at this early stage.

For example, L.Ronaldo scored 145 goals in 153 games during his first 5 seasons, then over his next 14 seasons he only managed another 207 goals in 373 games. You just never know. Cristiano scored 55 goals in 221 games during his first 5 season, he then went on to score 622 goals in 676 games over his next 14 seasons or so. If it is that easy to predict, you might as well thought L.Ronaldo would go on to score 500-600 goals instead of 200, whereas Cristiano would only go on to score another 150 goals instead of 600+.

Haaland has 135 goals in 177 games in his first 5 seasons, so lets see.

What I’m saying is that it doesn’t really matter whether he breaks it or not. If he doesn’t, someone else will. Which is why goal records don’t matter.

An impressively laidback approach to the whole concept of sport :) Doesn't really matter who wins, because if we don't someone else will :p Well, that's not what you wrote, but I like it.

Yes that’s not what I wrote. I was talking about goal records.

Cool celebration (after the penalty). His attitude must be really annoying for opponents supporters.

Bellingham’s beer catch was the highlight of the match. Incredible moment

Im convinced he drank piss.

Of course it matters. If he breaks it, or someone else did, it would means they would have a great career and probably would be remembered as one of GOAT too. Its not an easy record to break, only may happen once a decade (or a few decades)

Is Raul a GOAT? What if Haaland (or someone else) breaks it but doesn’t win anything? Scoring records don’t matter.

Miroslav Klose has scored more goals at World Cup level than R9 and Pele. Does that matter?
