If he's still playing like this when Rashford returns, there's no doubt it'll be an easy choice for me. Even when Rashford has poor games, he's always capable of pulling something out of thin air. Sancho will need to improve a lot to keep a starting position when Rashford returns to the squad.
I've always rated Rashford higher.

I think he gets too much criticism from our fans.

That said, I hope Sancho improves. We need him firing.

Seems to be lacking confidence. When he's doubled up on, he runs out of ideas and generally loses the ball. He just needs one good game or a goal to kickstart his United career I feel.

Not a good start to his United career but it's early days.

21 year old. New team, new manager, new coaching staff, first time playing in the most competitive league in the world. Would give him more playing time before judging.

Sad fact but the bigger the transfer fee the less time a player has to make his mark and that is in the eyes of the fans.
When people were calling for us to pay whatever price for him I was just hoping that we could get him at a reasonable price that was based on his potential and not as the finished product as we are witnessing now.
We will be witnessing the same shit show if Bellingham comes on the market next season

I will take a guess and say he will be ineffective against low blocks coming from the right. He might be a good dribbler but he's not the fastest especially coming from the right, so against low blocks he won't be able to beat his man 1v1 and will take the best decision of passing sideways

Worrying because then pretty much shows that's his numbers was due to the Bundesliga and things like the high line and high press.

He should be playing better but I worry that Ole and Southgate, quite similar managers, are not the ideal managers for the brand of football that suits him.

Id say so but It's just my opinion. But can you imagine Greenwood in the Bundesliga . I think players like Sancho and VdB who thrive off link up play are not the perfect match for Ole's style

Said it before but if you watch a highlights video it's staggering how much space he had at times in the Bundesliga.

I'm not going to write him off, writing off a young player is a fool's game, but a part of me doesn't understand what he's meant to add that we don't already have in abundance.

I think he will play better. Still early days. If he looks like this in November/December, then I'll worry a bit. Some players don't hit the ground running. It takes a while. Not everyone is Bruno.

He should start vs West Ham again and hopefully he bags a goal. Would be great for his confidence.

We were all crying when he was still at Dortmund and now he is with us, we are still crying.

21 years old, that had a bad summer, probably not the best pre season with injuries and sickness, so let's wait until Jan to make a status on him.

He only played 3/4 games with us. All our new players can t be like Bruno and have an instant impact

It would be interesting to see how many posters who have written him off, comes up with "Bundesliga he had lot of space" "James offers more" will also be in Haaland, Bellingham thread moaning about not signing them.

We have an abundance of high quality wide forwards who are really good playing on the right?

IMO There is a reason that players who play/have played in the attacking line for Dortmund (Kagawa, Mhiki, Sancho) look different for Utd. Dortmund, regardless of coach, for many years have played in neat triangles around the opponents box. Movement and the presence of technical players who can handle the ball in tight spaces in both the forward line and midfield (Kagawa, Mhiki, Sancho, Hazard, Reus, Goetze, Gundogan, Guerreiro etc). Utd didn’t have those technical players or that style of play when we bought Mhiki and Kagawa...hence why the general feeling was that these we quality players in the wrong setup ( see Klopps comments on Kagawa). The same can now be said for Sancho. Although we have players Who could potentially play a style that would suit Sancho- mata, DVB, martial, Greenwood...we still play an attacking game based on speed, power and individual talent - Rashford, Ronaldo, Bruno, Pogba. We rarely score the same goal twice, no patterns. It’s a style thing. Sancho would be electric for Pep or Klopp. In an actual planned attacking system where he knows his full back is almost always available and his centre midfielders are available for give and go’s. but We do not play in that style and having bought Ronaldo, we won’t be playing that way any time soon. Sancho is gonna find it tough in this team I think.

He reminds me of Depay. Always half a second too slow with his decisions, passes and touches.

The Premier League can be a dizzying place for a player who isn't used to the quicker tempo. But I think Sancho is talented enough to eventually adapt. I just hope that he doesn't poison his own well at United in order to get there. The last thing we want is to develop him into a top player for another club.

I agree. We don't play the type of expansive football that plays to Sancho's strengths. He could play better for sure, but we're really not as well drilled as the Dortmund squads he's played under, our football can be and has been dire this season so far

We bought him as a creative winger for the right while Rashford is likely the goalscoring winger on the left.
In time, I can see him working out, but it will take a while.

He hesitates far too much on the ball. Needs to know when to cross(he especially seems to hate this) it and when to pass.
He's got fantastic close control but he needs to adapt his distribution and movement.

That’s a weird take since he looked much better at the weekend against Newcastle than he did against Young Boys. I am not above blaming the pitch.

Either way he is streets ahead of the player Depay was when he signed for us.

He will be fine in time.

What's that got to do with playing young boys in the CL?

At Dortmund he would have ripped them apart and scored and assisted.

It's clear he's just settling in, he's playing with new players and maybe a touch of nerves.

People here are being quite frankly ridiculous. I hope somebody is keeping record of all the idiots that are writing him off after 3 and a half matches  It'll be funny to read in a few months time.

I think that for fans you’re only as good as your last two or three games. That’s the nature of the beast.

With people who work in football I’d imagine it’s very different. Progress for players is judged with a different criteria. Slower and probably more holistic. Bad games are expected, bad form, teething issues, the human side we don’t see. Coaches have to play players through that and know when to take them out. If it was as easy as buy - plug - play and just add top coaches then city would have 11 x £90 million wonderkids and would be winning the CL every other year

Some young players are obviously brought in with the hope they can hit the ground running automatically but it’s not unexpected if they take a few seasons to become top class or familiar with a new style, it can’t be. Look around the rest of the game. I can’t think of any recent young signing who’s come in and bossed it or won everything apart from Mbappe at PSG and they’ve been relatively poor in the CL. Havertz was pretty decent later in their CL win but the consensus was and still is that he was poor for quite a while but is improving and a work in progress. You can’t just go out and buy youngsters and expect them to go win you a PL or a CL. The team has to peak together so expecting Sancho to come and suddenly turn us into a dominant team was most likely never going to happen. Even though the fee was big we have to continue to look at it realistically like we’ve just bought a young Mata or something like that. patience will be key and hopefully he’ll become a central player for us and England over the next few years and for the long term

As he hasn't quite found his touch here yet, I can see him being dropped for the league match on Sunday and put in the Cup match.

Think on Sunday we will go with McFred and a front 4 of Pogba, Fernandes, Greenwood & Ronaldo

That would be most sensible. Especially with the league cup the very next game. If he doesn’t do well in the league cup game I think he might even be out of the next CL game as it’s basically a must win. I was hoping he’d find his feet in the slower less aggressive pace of the CL but he was poor on Tuesday. Probably our most lost player.

Think we all need to remember how off it Greenwood looked for a large chunk at the start/middle of last season. Wasn’t scoring, wasn’t really creating, defenders looked like they’d sussed him and he largely looked lost in many games. It took him a fair chunk of the season to start looking like a goal threat again and look at him now.

Sancho is young, has just moved to a new league and is going to need time. The question is whether he can be played into form or whether it’s best just to take him out of the firing line and bed him in much more slowly. (Ole is going to get shit either way as he’s either not playing his £70m signing or he is and his £70m signing is not performing).

Comparisons and fears he may be our next Kagawa or Mkhitaryan are wide of the mark for me. Sancho has spent most of his life playing English football, has no ancillary issues such as adapting to the British culture or weather, and has a wide circle of friends in the local area and at the club itself. It’s purely the football side of things he has to acclimatise to.

Either way, I’m fairly confident by the end of the season we’ll have a quality, well integrated option for the right side. He has plenty of ability and he’s not just going to forget how to play football upon signing for United. It would have been great if he’d just hit the ground running, sadly that doesn’t look like it’s going to be the case. So a lot of people just need to chill, stop over-critically micro analysing his every touch and move and show some patience whilst he settles in.

How much more time? When a club pays £73m they justifiably expect the player to hit the ground running.

This, to me, is the key. On Tuesday night you could almost see the wheels turning in his head as he made up his mind. He just needs to try stuff and stop worrying about fluffing up.

The perfect example's are Bruno and Ronaldo. The two of them will happily make 99 mistakes in a game just because the 100th attempt might be the winning pass or goal.

What I expect from Sancho is the opposite of what he's showing at the moment. I don't care if he bangs in 50 crosses and they all go to hell. However, I want to see him try. Cos if he tries, he might find the 51st hits Cristiano's forehead.

The one thing a Man Utd player cannot be is shy. To some extent, I understand it: Big transfer fee, no real preseason blah, blah.

Get over it kid.

Try. Let the crowd jeer and groan and laugh when you f-k up, just keep going. At the moment he looks like he's playing scared. Jadon's just gotta make the decision that he doesn't give a s-t anymore and he's just gonna do his thing and see what happens.

Greenwood's done well there for me this season when asked, would have been happy to see Amad getting some games too, showed enough in the glimpses I saw of him last season to show he'd be a decent option off the bench. Past that we have plenty of options that can fit in there.

It's never been the area that concerned me most in the team. In hindsight now the window's closed I'd have preferred to have seen £70m spent on the midfield.

He was never going to replicate his Bundesliga stats here, so the jury's out for me on him being high quality until he hopefully starts doing it in the league for us.

What's the threshold for this justification? 50m? It seems to me that every situation is different, and shouldn't be dictated by an arbitrary number

For his own sake, for our sake, he must learn to play well on the right. If he cannot adapt, we have a problem.

This isn't the Messi PSG thread.

Seriously though, he can play either side, he just scores more from the left when he cuts in.

Yeah I know he can play either side, but he must make the right his priority because that is the gap in the team that needs filling. I don't mind that he scores less. I expect him to rake up more assists than goals in this team because Ronaldo will want all the goals. If he can be a consistent danger on the right, I'm more than happy.

When Pepe was struggling after his £72m move to Arsenal he was justifiably trashed on cafe. That price range is for a finished product. As it is, Sancho is struggling badly for both club and country, being overshadowed by a much younger Bellingham.

Nah, not really. Depay was madly hyped on here and especially after that Brugge game.

We just have to hope this one goes a little bit better considering our track record.

Agreed.

His qualities should be perfect for counter-attacking football.
Yeah when we get to it sure I'd say. Ofcourse he was taken off Tuesday but we didnt even attempt to counter attack. Just completely negative.
