This wankery over how many fans a club has is something I'll never get used to.
The funny thing is most these big clubs United, Madrid, Barca etc have a large fan base because of glory hunters.

They want fans to decorate the background. They don't need fans to help pay for all the players and staff. Sponsorships from the UAE pays for all that. And of course, the players and staff agree to relatively low wages because they love the club. They love the club so much, that they agree to take on extremely lucrative side contracts to promote them (as per Mancini's contract).
Mancini had TWO contracts, one at City one at some side in Abu Dhabi.

I'm Irish so I don't know any City fans but I don't even see a growing fanbase either. Just more twitter accounts with Aguero as their profile picture.

Horrible club with a bunch of fans that have never been to Manchester and just support it because they think the club’s success is somehow a reflection on their own life.

Edit: just to be clear I’m talking about City

Kevin Parker, general secretary of City's official supporters' club......

"He [Guardiola] doesn't understand the difficulties that some people might have getting to a game on a Wednesday evening at 8pm."

But I thought most people who lived in Manchester supported City? So they're all local?

erm….

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1974–75_Manchester_United_F.C._season

Parts to pay special attention to whilst playing in second division:

Highest home attendance: 60,585 vs Sunderland (30 November 1974)

Average home attendance: 47,781

In division two we could manage 10,000 more fans on average for a second division league game than City can muster versus Leipzig in the Champions League.

Some older “classic” teams are what they are now because of the large fan base, rather than vice versa as your post suggests. It’s why we (and Liverpool for that matter) could go almost three decades without a league win and still have massive attendances and massive financial clout, always expecting that the sleeping giant will awake.
Does anyone think Citeh could go three decades now and still have that? My arse they could, there’s your difference.

I don't think anyone would disagree with the idea that being more successful will lead to having more fans, but that's not really the issue here. City fans had a history of saying they were the best supported club in Manchester even before they were winning trophies. Nobody really cares that much about them not actually selling out every game, it's just a bit funny to laugh at. You'd also see them announcing all tickets sold when the stadium would show a few thousand empty seats every time.

The whole glory hunters thing is a bit overdone and it implies a lot of us non-English are in fact a bunch of glory hunters. I believe most fans of teams outside their region are drawn to certain teams either because of the way they play or because they have some players from their country. Then they stick with "their team." I think City's lack of fans tends to support that belief.

Kevin Parkers statement is the very definition of delusional.

Other fans call it the Emptyhad for "a bit of fun" -no its because its true.

Attendences are generally excellent- for the home tie vs United yeah and thats it.

Its difficult for people to get there on a Wednesday night at 8? Of course it is..... what will the excuse be on Saturday at 3pm?

They were desperately flogging off tickets for their first home game since COVID. Small time club.

unreal
This is so funny  Imagine telling the Greatest manager they ever had to "stick to coaching".

Surely Abu Dhabi can fill the stadium by paying off people to attend if they can't find genuine supporters?

unreal
  Embarrassing

They must be fuming with him, the best manager they will ever have and they are willing to upset him when their ego gets dented.

They should be careful, Pep the individual probably draws in more of his own fans than the club itself on match day.

Even when we’re playing crap left right and centre, at least we have this fake plastic shambles club to laugh at

Just four bigger clubs in England than city? Off the top of my head I’d say

Manchester United
Chelsea
Liverpool
Leeds
Villa
Forest
Arsenal
Spurs
Everton
West Ham

and probably more if we’re counting just fans and following, such as Newcastle, Norwich. City are just a very rich little club.
West Ham? No chance. Spurs is debatable too.

If they are anywhere near not fighting for league title this year, he’ll walk out on them. 100% he doesn’t want to be there anymore.
He just wants a UCL. I think he’ll leave in the summer if they win it this year, otherwise he’ll stay one more year.

Imagine going from Barca and Bayern to this, begging fans to snap up some of the heavily discounted tickets in hopes they can fill their stadium.

Love how you always take our rival club's side no matter which thread. Sometimes I do agree with you but it seems it's an automatic response :)
