Some more tidbits from the article ( but I recommend reading it because it's really good.)

Damn, this really makes me look at the contract extension differently. If we hadnt given him that, his career would have been finished. We did the classy thing. I didnt know he had the same injury Ole had.

I am being extremely optimistic, but maybe could Jones fix our DM issues? He has also played right back for us. He is good passer and will not be bullied - positioning can be suspect though.

Wow.

 He's insulting so many of his haters. Love it.
Classy isn't it!

He'll end up with another contract and that will show the haters.

Why does he get abuse? He has 27 England caps, has played in two World Cups and owns a Premier League winners’ medal, while spending a decade at United is an achievement in itself. What is there to mock? “I must be an easy target” Jones says. “Every footballer has a tag and unfortunately mine is, ‘Let’s have a laugh at him.’

But — and I say this in the nicest possible way — I know who’ll have the last laugh. I’m proud of my career and when it finishes and I’m enjoying my life — and by the way I’m super fortunate that I’ll be able to do that, because footballers are fortunate — [the keyboard warriors] will still be in their mum’s spare bedroom, sipping Diet Pepsi that’s flat, eating a Pot Noodle, sitting in their boxers, tweeting.”
He is talking about the people who abuse footballers on social media, well done Jones.

Obertans #1 fan.
Really hope he can have some minutes on the pitch somewhere as a fully healed player, what a nightmare few years he has had,

He has had a difficult time but I feel the club hasn't managed the communication well. Going through all that and then endure aa torrent of online abuse in the midst of it all must have been torture. Credit to Ole for speaking up in his corner and I think that support has emboldened him to speak up and fight back.

I highly doubt he can still play at the highest level after all that. You can only imagine what he's gone through.

Poor lad, certainly feel guilty of abusing him myself. Hopefully he gets back fit and finds a new club somewhere where he'd play.

Right-back, defensive midfield and understudy at CB are all there to be contested for him; the biggest question, and issue after whether he's physically up to PL standards, is if he's gone away and thought about how he plays the game and to approach it in a considered manner that will no longer wreck his body.

There was never a reason for him to be so mindless and reckless with his body in the first place, as he had superb athleticism, and, funny that he should mention the reference to the Ronaldo marking job, as it proved he could easily play a studious and diligent role whilst staying on his feet and not clattering into people every two seconds.

As far as physical qualities go, he had everything to have been nightmarish to get past, and if he's still got the agility, strength and power, could go on to have a career doing those things, or at least, not using himself as a human wrecking ball.

He's had a lot of time to think about the game and it would be great if he has done so and comes back applying that - it'd be quite bizarre if he's still the same player he was cannoning into all and sundry after being out for multiple years.

RB and DM give him potential inlets; he's got every right to try for given our options in both positions.

Love it. Not his fault he gets these Injuries. If only he was Brazilian and a jovial character, he'd get more love in our fan base

I think you're misinterpreting my post. By "haters" I don't mean everyone that thought such an injury prone player shouldn't have been given that contract. That's nearly everyone here.

I literally mean abusers giving him shit for daring to be injured and not resigning for the good for the club. or something. You know, people with zero empathy that do live in their mom's basement.

I feel for him, he clearly doesn't want to be injured and its not his fault he's been given a long contract.

I think the best thing would be a loan in January to get some minutes and to go from there.

Great attitude but I do wish someone at United would tell him to go somewhere else. There's no room for sentimentality.
This. Give him job in club or something but keeping first team player who is obviously finished at top level is just stupid.

This, he’s done very well out of us. The money spent on his wages could pay hundreds of the fans salaries. We have a right to question him.
Thank God we're not Man City and therefore don't need to pay Fans' salary

Interesting interview, if he can stay fit until January a loan move where he can get regular game time would be good for him.

Well going quiet for that long, not even speaking to fans or explaining his condition(in decent communication with fans as many players do), and attacking internet warriors immediately, doesn't really do much for his image, doesn't it?

"Hey, I am Phil Jones, I was injured and feck you internet fans who wrote against me." - that reads really well, well done Jones, always thought you were very bright.

Why would anyone with a well paid job walk away from their contract, when their current injury problems means that nobody else would offer them equivalent employment terms?

Jesus, very bright for trying to defend his family, including his wife who personally received death threats.

What an absolutely horrendous comment, you're just as bad as those sad imbeciles giving him abuse on twitter.

It’s funny that you can’t cope with one person disagreeing with you online, but expect Jones to take rubbish off of thousands of people on a regular basis.

Yeah, didn't see the link for entire article so it seems more sensible after reading it.

Still, explained my stance on Jones few times before, if he was at any other club he would be long time gone, he can thank United and Ole for keeping him and helping him that much.
