I know that but I took that as more of a criticism of VAR as a concept which I believe is absolutely fine but is again ruined by inept referees who seem to be making errors despite using Video replays which is quite baffling .
Ah I see. I agree it's baffling they can still get things so wrong, although I'd like to see the replays again. I can't believe they didn't even mention them in the studio after the game.

Great win. This is how you win titles by finding to win. Score winners at end of game. Pk save to hold on the win.
But let’s not get carried away.
No creativity up front. Lot of sideways passes, crosses with a prayer,

we need to be lot more creative and quick movement up top.
Pogba, Ronaldo, Greenwood, Bruno, Sancho, Lingard, Rashford, Cavani, Martial not enough for you?

As I am one of those not convinced by Ole, and actually belive he can't win us the title, I have to give a lot of credit to him for the win today.

The key for me was Matic, he was the one with a delicious pass thru the lines into Lingard in a dangerous position. That was the sub along with Lingard obviously that won us the game.

This win is all due to Ole/Lingard/DdG.
Yeah that matic ball was delicious to Lingard. The two subs combining beautifully. Credit where credit is due.

We need an improvement over Fred. Otherwise good performance in a tough away fixture.
Yep. Big problem, that. Next summer might be too long to wait. We may need to replace him in January.

Just a little warning for Ronaldo there. Went down a bit easily a few times meaning the ref decided he wouldn't give anything for him after that.

It's a really good result against a good West Ham side and it's always a huge buzz to get a late winner (plus an even later penalty save to secure the three points). We still seldom control games, certainly less than some of our rivals, but we created enough to deserve the win.

A word for Ole too, I share some of the reservations that others have, but he took a lot of criticism for the substitutions in midweek and today his subs seemed odd in terms of the timing and the players that came on but a couple of them linked up for the decisive moment (not for the first time) while enough of his key players kept their heads, similarly to how Ole tends to, despite all of the VAR nonsense going against us to win the game.

My internet went slow, and they seemed to zoom off to the Chelsea game.

Did Ole mention the non pens?

I was annoyed that Lingard was coming on instead of Martial. Then fuming to learn that Matic was our next sub while still needing a goal.

Next thing you know Matic plays a superb ball through to Lingard who proceeds to bury it in the top corner.

So very happy to be completely wrong.

That just proves the ref is shit if that feeds into his decision making. VAR is supposed to clear anything like that up.
It's not just Atkinson, as the gnomes in the cupboard should have been all "YOU'VE MISSED AN OBVIOUS PEN THERE MATE" in his ear, and he'd have been forced to go and check the screen.

First, well I turned off the TV soon as it was decided they got the pen. As much as I've been saying DDG is going to have a monster of a season for us, when it comes to pens, didn't have an ounce of of confidence of a save. Can it feel this good to be soooo wrong? The penalty was a clear pen though for them but, it should likely have been 3-1 at that point as it was as blatant a penalty right before.

And freakin' Atkinson and VAR, what the bloody hell. They've really gone extreme the other way this season with not awarding penalties for what was obvious pen.

As for rest of our performance, I thought we played some very good football at times. Fabianski made some very good stops. However, was baffled why again with a bench like ours, it takes so long to make a change to give them moretime to make an impact. Lingard did just that but, left it really late. I am not sure what Ole was watching with Scott, why he stayed on the pitch I have no idea. He wasn't prompting anything nor was he covering that great. Should have kept Pogba on instead. He also subbed on Matic to not lose - it was a moment of brilliance from Jesse that won the game.

As for Jesse, so very happy for him.

Nothing like a last ish min winner.
But a last ish min winner and then a pen save even later?

Just :drool::drool:

If we're to be in the mix this season, it's not the battering Newcastles that'll do it, it's the today type games.

We played quite well imo. Fully deserved the win. Ronaldo is class. Ref tried to feck us, should have had at least 2 pens and their pen felt fortunate too given how close Shaw was and that he didn't move his arm to the ball, but who the fecks knows what a handball is these days. Fully deserved win in the end. Delighted for Lingard.

Incredible from the team & manager. Every substitution had a meaningful impact on the game. Ref & VAR tried their best to screw us over too.

Massive 3 points against a strong team in their ground, and a day of redemption for DDG, Lingard, and Ole.

Atkinson is a cnut.

I think you're right about the positivity. This had draw written all over it, to pick up all 3 points def keeps us in it. Last season or the one before the heads would have dropped, just lacking that extra spark. Now we have serial winner Ronaldo with 4 in 3. He's making it happen, and belief is rampant.
Ronaldo certainly could be the difference. I think if we let more games drift like we did today we'll miss out, but talismanic players like Ronnie can get you out of jail. On the balance of play I think we deserved it today but given it was our own inability to kill the game off in the second half a draw looked on the cards. We needed inspiration from Lingard and De Gea today to get us over the line, but we got there.

Absolutely. I was saying VAR should mean this type of thing doesn't happen. I was shocked he was told to look at the last one..

We are on 13 points after 5 games.. I remembered we were on 13 points after 10 a couple of seasons back.. checked..

last 3 seasons, we had 17, 13 and 19 points after 10 games.. This is the best start we have had in a while..

Great win, decent display, lucky in the end. A draw away to West Ham would not be a disaster at all, but without Antonio we had better prospects. Harry Maguire was very poor, so much so that if a great player suddenly becomes available in the market - we should seriously consider it. Reading the game like a drunk, passing out of the pitch, he just isn’t a top quality defender and disrupts the back-four every other game. On another day Ronaldo gets one more and a penalty, so not so concerned about the display.

Saying that, as always, we seem like a bunch of really good footballers in a five-a-side, there is absolutely no coaching or attacking patterns.

We went through a bit of a poor spell in the second half, which is a bit of a concern. But overall we had all the shots and more of the ball so we really deserved it.

Can't believe we didn't get at least one pen today. Looks like refs have decided that they will not give Ronaldo any penalties, so defenders can hack him down in full flow. This is England after all :

Stonewall pens not given today, and makes it so much sweeter that De Gea finally saved one tonight. I couldn't believe what I saw. Had to watch it again!
Why you whispering?

Results like today are huge, potential banana skin as it is anyway, but that finish is what builds momentum.

We need to see how we fare in the big games, as we have a tough run of those shortly.
