Doesn't this just highlight the stupidity of having agendas against players?

I've been disappointed by Jesse over the years but you have to appreciate it when he comes up with a big goal like today.

Now we just need Phil Jones to score the winner in the champions league final

That's 2 superb goals he has scored so far this season following on from his successful loan at WHU last season . He has had personal problems over the last few years and I for one am delighted for him for firstly committing himself to the club and also for the maturity he is now showing. Fair play to him.

My decision to not read the match day thread worked well today

My point is always the same

If these people watched the game properly instead of hammering away at their keyboards non-stop, they might learn something about the game.

What makes these posts having "agendas"? People rate players differently, it doesn't make it agenda driven.

Honorable mention to @Rightnr who got so worked up when Lingard scored against Newcastle that he caught a warning and a temp ban.
So what? The club should give Lingard a lifetime contract because he scored a goal? Fair play to him but this is pathetic. He's not fit to be a United player and one goal doesn't change that. Neither did his "assist" for Young Boys. Would be a decent signing for a midtable club, but United are not a midtable club (or at least it shouldn't be)
I see you wanted to contribute a bit more to the topic.

Seriously? Happy for Lingard that he did score a worldie. Lightning doesn't strike twice and hope we don't do that again. Taking Pogba off when Fred was embarrassing , has the potential to be one of the worst ever decisions.
Absolutely have to disagree here. Didn’t see Fred do too much wrong today, and I thought Paul had a poor game. He also took a painful looking knock in the first half and looked a bit rattled at times. I feel he sometimes loses focus when he feels frustrated or wronged. Today was one of those for him. I had assumed it would be Scott coming off, but fair play to Ole for making the right call. Worked well in the end.

Ridiculous trying to bully people by what they had written in the middle of a match day thread. Emotions run high during a match and the frustration of being level with West Ham definitely played its part.

I wasn’t hopeful but did understand why Ole started Lingard. He has scored the maximum number of goals in the last few matches among all of our bench options. Also he knew the ground well having played there for a season. He definitely must be doing something right in training for Ole to give him these starts while VDB warms the seats.

Fair play to him and DDG for getting us the three points.

The match thread is becoming a bit intolerable. There's been a inflation in overly negative and critical shitposting to everything that happens lately and its making even participating in the GDT less enjoyable than I'd like. A bit like the first half when we had most of the possession and 7 shots on goal, and yet there is so much complaining.
It's always been like that. We had people moaning when we were winning under SAF as well. I'm not sure what it is about football fans watching a match that makes them so reactionary and negative.

We've gone behind and won in a billion away games under Ole yet every time we concede first this place acts as if it's the end of the world.

Those posts were based on the factual history of him not being very good. Not based on the unseen of the future. The posts haven't aged well, but its very easy to understand why someone would say that.
Exactly. Lingard scored a brilliant goal and I am thrilled for him and the club. But we have seen this with him earlier as well. If he keeps this up the whole season, then by all means rub it in. Not one goal later, especially considering what he did on Tuesday.

I was hoping Lingard would score while reading all these posts, and then I was hoping you would make this thread after he did.

Both came true!

The matchday forum is like being at the pub - kneejerk reactions with your mates, driven entirely on the emotion you feel while watching the game.

There's no deep analysis or even shallow analysis - and it's weird to expect otherwise.

Threads like these are the equivalent of sitting in silence with your mates at the pub as they react to the match, then once full-time hits you pull out your phone and go "I can see you're all happy now, but remember in the 57th minute when you said McTominay was shit....oh you don't? Luckily I've been recording the entire game. Let's have a listen"

Why are people even typing this shite while the game is on? Put your keyboard down, watch the match enjoy another excellent away win against of the league's best sides.

Do we really want match threads to be heavily self censored? Isn't the whole point, and part of the fun, for them to be a stress release full of hot takes and exaggeration?

Imagine spending your time typing on a keyboard during the game and expect your opinion to be taken seriously

fecking hell, that’s a worrying post as well
I am sick of the Jesse slander. He is literally a full United boy. He loves the club as much if not more than I do. Some of the absolute cretins here who wish him ill are worthy of gruesome deaths as far as I am concerned. I am someone who fought back from crippling depression. I know what it's like to burn at the bottom. So when I see Jesse proving everyone wrong... I feel so attached to him. All the cynical twits can feck right off.

On Tuesday you could have pulled out all the posts of people unhappy when he came on and went on to gift them a goal.

I’m only messing. I know what you mean, it just sounded slightly sinister!

Jesse sorted my mates’ footy team out with full free kits this season. The team are full of lads who have struggled with mental health. He’s a top man in my book.

Top man Jesse. Love him to bits. Anyone who wishes him ill are dead to me as far as I am concerned. I am not surprised he did that for your mate's footy team. He's a proper good lad. Jlingz is a brand. Jesse is a gem.

Not it's not. If you're willing to dish out abuse and criticism you should be able to take it.
Its public shaming by a high profile individual, giving people the choice of recanting their “wrong” views and being allowed to join the crowd or sticking to their views and facing a pile on. Presumably under the guise of “it’s just a bit of fun”. In school or work you’d call it for what it is.
