Ahh [Irrelevant point], the moral compass of football. He’s predictably drawn some high profile support for this brave step

Alonso, the player across divisions with the weakest moral standing, decides to take a stand here. Sure.

Christ, footballers and self awareness.

Editing my own posts.
I’ll probably not take my moral integrity from a drunk driving killer that got off with a fine, thanks all the same though..

It took up far too much of Tuchel's press conference.

Wait, what are his reasons for doing so? I feel like people are expecting everyone to suddenly stop hurling racist abuse and if not, feel like the gesture is not working. Things like these take time, so they should continue to take the knee.

Biden won the election already and BLM disappeared. It will come back again for the next US election.

Most shocking thing about this for me is to learn that he still starts matches.
Played really well when Chelsea were down to 10 against Liverpool the other week. Kept getting forward down the left providing them an outlet when they really needed one and was then getting back again the other way. Put in a massive shift.

He is a striker playing at left back. His attacking play has always been very good, always finds himself in goal scoring positions.

Just loving the absurdity of that rank xenophobe Farage having to praise a foreigner. I bet he felt really dirty posting that or then again myabe not as he appears to have the self awareness of a bag of gravel.

Losing it's effectiveness. What an absolute Muppet. Something as deeply ingrained as racism isn't going to vanish overnight. But, kids aren't born racist. If you've got the biggest most watched league spreading awareness and making generations growing up ask "why are they doing this?" and the overwhelming message from people they look up to is "because it's wrong" then these are exactly the kind of acts that the world needs to see.

Oh it hasn't "cured" racism? No shit. Is it making racism more spoken about in the media? Yes. If it empowers people to say to their friends that what they're saying or doing isn't Ok then it's worth people kneeling before a game. It's not like it takes any effort or has any single negative effect. All it has is a positive effect. How anyone can be against that baffles me.

It's losing it's strength so what I'll do is add to that by choosing to stop doing it. Ah righty-o Marcos lad, you've achieved a lot here.

It’s Nigel Farage, you’re looking in the wrong place for any kind of logic.
I know, but of all the words he could have chosen ('common sense', 'the common people', whatever), he went with 'decency' and I really don't get that one.

Standing up for decency? Is this intentional doublespeak or am I missing something here?
It’s Farage. He’s probably equally happy & shocked to finally find someone with less morality than him. Must’ve felt dirty praising a Spaniard though.

Out of curiosity what is the end game with the whole taking the knee thing? I mean will it just become a permanent thing before all matches until the end of time? Obviously racism exists and should be combated but surely people comprehend that it's impossible to wipe out.

Some of these guys live in a alternative reality. Did they really expect racism to just disappear overnight?

Well I guess it's his choice and forcing him to do it kind of ruins the message really.

That said, if I was a player (which I'm not) and was white (which I am) I personally would keep taking the knee as long as my non-white teammates still thought it was having a good impact. I don't feel qualified to make that choice.
