Ole won't be sacked unless we miss top 4. These calls to sack him with us sitting level with City and Chelsea and 1pt of top spot are absolutely ridiculous.

We have the worst 'fans' in world football. What are you achieving with this agenda? Club have just given him a 3yr deal and backed him in the market so he's not being sacked.

Get behind him or go do something else until he's gone. You're worse than rival fans.

In my opinion the next manager should be

A- Someone who plays a style of game similar to what Ole had built the squad for. That means attacking football who rely on wingers.
B- Someone who appreciates youth talent. We've got too much top young talent to have a new guy throwing it away.
C- Preferably someone who understand the EPL or at least follows it.
Agreed on everything really. It's actually why I am warming to someone like Potter, ticks a lot of those boxes IMO. A) is a difficult one for me, I can't really think of anyone that fits the bill - anyone you would be happy with?

Edit: De Zerbi was one I was thinking of, but was an odd move to go to Shaktar.

And why is the squad not good enough compared to City, Chelsea and Liverpool?

We finished above Chelsea and Liverpool last season and had a better transfer window than either did.
But then on that basis you'd have to give credit to the manager as well.

In actuality, Ole rode his luck so many times last season it was almost uncanny.

As to the other teams, well Tuchel came half way through and Liverpool went bizarrely off the rails in a way that is unlikely to happen a second time.

If you're looking to find a new manager, you have to look at what you require at the club and what a given candidate will actually bring.

The things Zidane won at Madrid are irrelevant, because he doesn't bring those trophies with him. Same with any other manager. You can draw some idea as to their approach from those successes but it's the approach itself you have judge.

Are they hands on coaches? If so, what sort of style of play, formations and structures will they be implementing? What will their team look like in terms of build-up play, progression, creation, attacking & defensive transitions, high/mid/low blocks, set-pieces etc? Or, if they're managers who delegate, who will they be bringing with them to delegate to? What's their approach to the above? Beyond coaching, what's the manager's approach to youth players? What profile of signings do they look for? How suited is our current squad to their ideal set-up? Etc, etc.

The devil is in the details. The actual processes of the regime they'll bring with them are what should determine who you hire, because they're what will determine whether they're a success or not. Not how big a name they are, whether they're a "born winner" (which is a meaningless cliche), whether they happen to be one of probably several people who are better than our current manager or whether they're one of several people who definitely have a better CV than our current manager. "I want Zidane because he's won the CL multiple times, unlike Solskjaer" means a lot less than "I want Zidane because his teams play like X, he will improve our coaching in terms of Y, he usually sets up in Z formation which suits us because...."

When I see people basically saying any of Zidane, Conte, Ten Hag, etc. will do it suggests they don't really know what they want as those are all very different managers.
Completely agree, and I've tried to explain exactly what you're saying when giving my thoughts on why I feel Ten Hag is the standout choice.

Absolutely pathetic, isn't it? They were saying results were in his favour and now that they're not, 'go do something else'  . What a joke.

Everything about Ten Hag is just great. He would be my dream choice now. I want to see us play a proactive attacking game looking to go toe-to-toe with the best teams. He's also great with youth, implements plenty of automatisms in attack(build-up phases and final 3rd both), implements a press and has had success with Ajax in the CL with a massively inferior budget/weaker squad compared to other teams.

I really wish this board had the foresight to get him in after Ole, but I worry we'll just go for a big name.

I could be completely wrong but I don't believe they will go for Conte. I think lessons must have been learnt from when we hired Mourinho who many said guaranteed the title with-in two years.

I'm gonna assume the guys on the transfer committee will go for a coach that will be compatible with them. And being compatible with them is to also make use of the youth players we have the club and to work with the recruitment department in synergy when it comes to out-lining a plan going forward.

Part of me worries we go for Poch after he likely fails at PSG this season and gets the boot.

I think Poch would be a disaster.

Conte would likely get us a trophy, and then fall out with the board.
Agree on both counts.

My fear is Ronaldo would influence to hire someone to win now such as Conte. Whereas Ten Haag I have a hard time seeing him work with Ronaldo.

I think Conte/Ronaldo would fall out quickly. I see Conte/Ronaldo falling out like Rafa and him did at Real.

I think Ten Hag and Ronaldo could work well together.

I agree with this and I also think Ten Hag would get us to apply high pressure effectively even with Ronaldo in the team.

I think he would adapt his system to the strengths of Ronaldo and would try and adapt Bruno to his and use him as the trigger off the ball.
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Ten Haag have a rougher time after initial success and now again has them playing good. If so that's another credit to him for turning it around after adversity.

Ajax lost the likes of Frenkie de Jong, De Ligt, Ziyech, VdB etc, and there came a time where I thought he (Ten Hag) might have to move to another club to reach the heights he did with the aforementioned players. But to his credit he stayed put and brought through more highly rated youngsters and with the aid of Ajax's recruitment department they added Mohammed Kudus and Antony who are both young players that have been very good for Ajax under Ten Hag.

So for me he's answered a few doubts by helping rebuild a team which looks like it will give a tough game to anyone playing a brand of football that is admired by all.

The spine of the team comprises of Varane, Pogba, Ronaldo... all three of them would work perfectly with Zidane or Conte.

Top reds are hilarious. They will swear undying loyalty to whoever the manager is so they probably shouldn't be on a thread like this.

Is this current anti Ole surge just the result of losing a couple of games on the bounce or is it an actual sea change in opinion? It's hard to tell.

High press would need quite a lot of squad surgery which would cost a fortune and take years?

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I've been frustrated with performances etc for the last 2 years, so most replacements are appealing right now. Ideally it wouldn't be Conte though, I respect he's a very good coach, but I think he's too abrasive and I can't be bothered going there again after Jose divided the fanbase. I want to be on the same page as fellow supporters again and be excited by our football again. It's genuinely tiring and boring coming on here and just arguing with the Ole in lot.

I have been a big fan of Potter/Brighton over the last 12 months. He's not really proven but there's not many obvious options right now, that I'm aware of, and I'm pretty damn sure that he's a better tactician and coach than Ole.

I'm not following other leagues these days to know who else is a good coach and potential option. I'll be looking at other suggestions on here with interest.

I don't think so. It all comes down to coaching. Only at United do we treat it as an individual effort type of thing. It's all about positioning and converging in deliberate ways to create mistakes. And players are more likely to buy into it if they know it's effective enough to give them better attacking opportunities.

Why exactly?

A top coach can come in and implement a high press right away.

He doesn't need 11 brand new players for it.

It would be possible with the current players imo. Closing down isn't difficult for individual players, but closing down in a methodical manner whilst being in sync with your team mates seems to be a problem for the current coaching staff imo.

I'd agree with Ten Hag if he wanted to come, but would probably need to wait until at least halfway through the season. Someone like Potter I could only see happening if things got really desperate (like losing the next 5 in a row), Ole walks by mutual consent and we needed someone to agree to come in immediately.

This is my view too. I think Potter's the next breakout manager in the league, caught Brighton quite a few times last season and they nearly always outplayed their opponents, they just lacked a good finisher. High xG. I think with a bigger budget and 3-4 years he's got massive potential. His squad building is good, he's a great man manager, plays attractive football and probably a decent tactician too.

Conte I'm with you for the same reason, even at Inter he fought with the higher ups many times and the football wasn't great. I've no clue if Ten Haag is any good or not, happy to be informed more but I feel like many are touting his name based on the supposed good football Ajax play in a poorer league, the same way many were on board with Sancho purely because he put up higher numbers in a poorer league without actually considering whether he'd be a good fit or not.

Ten Hag is probably the best bet in that he's at a point in his career where he was/is being linked to top sides like Bayern & Barca, has experience in Europe getting an Ajax side on limited resources to a CL semi-final, brings the more modern detail-orientated approach we're crying out for and plays lovely attacking football:

What's not to like?

I don't for a second think the club would opt for someone like Ten Hag over someone like Zidane though. The big name would win out.
Music to my ears, that

Ten Hag is being touted not only for what he has shown in Holland but also in the CL. He was seconds away from making the Champions League final and knocked out some big clubs on the way too with a young team. He's lost half of that team, but he's stayed put and with the aid of the Ajax recruitment department he's rebuilt the team and they look like they could potentially go far in the tournament again with exciting youngsters like Antony, Gravenberch, Kudus, Timber etc.

Graham Potter would get my vote.
He has Brighton playing a good brand of football and he comes across well as a decent bloke.
I am sure he will be a hot candidate for the National job after Southgate.

Yeah and would be easier to get him out of Brighton than Rodgers out of Leicester, also there is always that chance Rose, Flick, Ten Haag maybe even Nagelsmann might fancy a go at this league in a few years time to come in afterwards

Ten Hag definitely.

Plays good progressive football as you’d expect from an Ajax manager. His tactics and formations are like a deluxe version (all the good, none of the bad and the things we lack) of what we already do, to the point where our squad would be almost perfect for him to work with from the get go. This saves us on yet another rebuild and starting from scratch all over again.

Dutch guys seem to mostly do well here and “get” United probably more than South Europeans.

He’s dominated in Holland but also done well in the Champions league which is a better barometer to judge him by. That 2019 Ajax team was almost completely sold off and he’s managed to rebuild and keep results up at the same time which shows to me that it wasn’t a fluke or a lucky generation he was handed.

Young enough to be classed with the modern new wave of top managers but old enough to have good experience and a track record.

Added bonus is he rates Donny and can tap up Grevenberch :D

Unsure about C, but Ten Hag would appear to be a good fit for A & B.

His Ajax side certainly likes to attack - they have scored 29 goals in their last 6 games (conceded 1).
I am not sure about that. Dutch football has really gone down the drain lately. Also LvG and Koeman had failed spectacularly both with Inter and ourselves. We need someone who understands the EPl and who knows about the worth of Ole's very expensive local signings. Else we risk having someone trying to reinvent the wheel once again.

If we are going for a foreign import then I'd have a close look at Ancelotti (if available), Mancini or Pochs

What I’m wondering is who will be making the choice:
  • The money/marketing men (Woodward, whoever is “succeeding“ him)?
  • The Proper Football Men (Murtogh, Fletcher)?
  • The players (Ronaldo, Varane etc.)?

I don’t suppose we’ll ever know, but after all the speculation it would be really interesting to find out who’s really in charge.

It’s still Woodward’s job. But I’m sure he’s already decided he’s not sacking another manager. So will be left up to Richard Arnold when he takes over in January where they’ll do a great PR spin of him wanting Ole gone for ages but Woodward wouldn’t entertain it.

Look at our needs, I think what makes a top team champions is that they are imposing and overwhelm most of their opponents or their defense is very stable and solid. We have neither of these but if we get a coach that can do either or both then I believe we will challenge because we have the players.

Basically we need a coach that will make us an imposing attacking force or bring stability to our defense or both. Off the pitch he should be able to handle the pressure that comes with managing a top club and transfer recruitment should still be as exciting as it is with Ole.

Ten Hag is the best option for me and after that maybe get Ole some new coaches

I agree fans should always get behind the manager but Ole has already knocked himself out of one domestic cup competition, Neville stressed the importance of cup competitions when aspiring to win bigger things how it serves as a spring board. Last season Ole was knocked out of the UCL via the group stages, he's lost his first fixture against a opposition team significantly weaker in quality. The league form is very inconsistent and the performances are non existent.

If you consider these variables and just assume the manager is not going to get criticism under these circumstances it's an extremely naive view and somewhat redundant of reality.
