Why do players get a yellow for taking their shirt off?

What the title says. I've never really understood why this rule was brought in.

because it means sponsors don’t get their two cents worth on all the photos taken of the celebration.

You can't restart the game with a player with no shirt, so to prevent time-wasting pretending you're struggling to put it back on.
They could change it so that there is no yellow but then you're out until the next stoppage of play.

This is the official reason... But really it's to do with Sponsors and wanting logos on shirts for celebrations

Wasn't it because it incites the crowd? There was a random rule years back where they allowed it but the shirt wasn't allowed to be held over head height. Then Asprilla did this

I'd say why do players keep doing it knowing they'll get booked?
I don't know why other players do it but Ronaldo can't NOT do it. It's probably a medical condition or something. The medical condition being that he loves taking his shirt off.

He probably does it all the time. Makes a decent piece of toast? Successfully unlocks his front door? Time to take the shirt off.

This. And it's fair. They pay a shit load of money for that very moment.

I'm pretty sure it was so players couldn't use their undershirts for advertising or other messages.

Wow, actually never saw it like that before. Always thought it was a "modest" rule that was outdated. But that makes too much sense, especially coming from you. I'm confused.
i’ve only ever spoken sense in my whole life.

What if the player cheekily cover the sponsors with his hands ?
like puts a finger at the front of the n on nike and then you spend the rest of the game wondering if it actually says mike?

Wenger should focus on removing this rule off instead of pushing the ridiculous World cup every 2 years . Fans want to see those 6 packs to feel the passion !

It started when Diego Forlan couldn't get his shirt back on, and ended up running around playing skins for the last few minutes of a game.

It's not an old rule. Players used to be able to do this 20 years ago. I'm certain it's to do with sponsors wanting their logos displayed in celebrations. The time wasting reason only makes sense if you don't really think about it. I'm fairly certain players are not disallowed from taking their boots off and holding them up when you score. How much time could you waste from putting your shirt back on?

Isn’t it in the rules that a player has to have certain kit on at all times during the game, i.e shirt, shorts, socks, boots and shin pads?

But that's banned anyway - well, at least FIFA doesn't allow political messages.
