Yeah, this guy does not appear to be United talent. I hope he doesn't read this forum or else his confidence will be shattered 110%. He is not defender at all it seems... Did this guy play right back in his youth? Seems so out of place. Somehow he did better as left back against Aston Villa than today.

Inexperienced doesn't have anything to do with how bad he was. Right backs younger than him would've put in better displays. The chance where De Gea made the double stop and was hurt as a result came from him not doing anything but jogging back and letting the opposition player shoot. It's just lower league levels kind of defending.

That performance was throwback to Gary Neville's last game for United.
If he'll have his career backwards to Gary then might turn decent someday.

How to end your United career in 90 minutes. Suffering Christ on a cross, he was atrocious.

Some youth right back must be a better pick based on that 90 minutes.

To think there were many on here who suggested him as a RW option. Him being an atrocious defender doesn’t mean he can attack, which should’ve been quite obvious since 2019, but step-overs and a Portuguese name can fool many people.

I thought we should have brought Bailly on. He's athletic enough to play there and so much better than Dalot.
Bailly is a disaster waiting to happen anywhere on the pitch and I think he proved beyond any semblance of doubt against PSG away that right back is not a position where we can carry him.

Yeah, he's out on loan.

Gary Neville's crossing got progressively better. If that were the case, I shudder to think what 32 year old Dalot's crossing would look like.

Bad game from him but he was not helped at all by Greenwood. That early Villareal chance set the tone when he had two players freely running at him and Greenwood jogging back without a care in the world.

Bit crap isn’t he.

He tries his best but players just run around him he’s got nothing defensively.

Like Evra's perhaps ? People want to play Bailly or Lindelof as RB now. How about Jesse Lingard, ffs...

There must be some right back in the u-21s or u-18s.
To throw into the cauldron with an under-performing manager under intense pressure. I don't think so. At the absolute worst, it has to be Lindelof if Harry gets back early.

Laird? Cant be any worse than what he put up tonight.

I think thats the worst 90 minutes i've ever seen of a United player that i can remember. I actually like him though and thinks (thought?) he could be useful but that was fecking atrocious

Never let him touch the pitch again, please.
Well.. who's gonna play the Atlanta game!! AWB is suspended and I don't think we can play Lindelof of Bailly there..

Gosens might not be fit play so let's see probably he'll still be selected

He was really poor but shouldn't we also be concerned with how the odds were somewhat against him tonight?

Back in the day Gary Neville was offered protection. Always. Would he have been as consistent if we had pacy wide men running full steam at him without a colleague within sight?

It doesn't absolve Dalot because he's a Utd player, he has to be able to defend 1 v 1 but any defender can be made a fool of in these situations as they have way more to lose than an attacker. They go by him too easily but it's tough to make a tackle around the box.

Laird out on loan all season at Swansea and Brandon is at Norwich. Lindelof can play RB and so can Bailly and would certainly be better options, even Phil Jones would be an upgrade over that.

Gary Neville before his injuries was ten times the player Dalot is, protection or not. Dalot is one of the worst players we've ever had.

Dalot tonight played like Neville did in his last game. He was embarrassing, his defending for the final Villareal chance is staggeringly bad.

That was genuinely a 2 out of 10 performance.

I'm not arguing to the contrary, I'm saying a full back needs protection. All defenders do. It's the same reason you have defensive midfielders protecting through the middle. You can't have skilled and fast forwards bearing down on defenders unchallenged and expect to look defensively stable. It's just not going to happen. People like Greenwood and Sancho have to work harder.

Actually makes me appreciate AWB a bit more who I thought was already a pretty mediocre FB but well at least AWB can tackle.
AwB is better offensively and defensively than Dalot.. and is a better passer too.. and can carry the ball too

That's kind of true to be fair. Greenwood wasn't tracking back, McTominay couldn't get across enough because he was effectively the only midfielder and Lindelof didn't or wasn't instructed to cover him. Still doesn't excuse how bad his one-on-one defending was to be honest.

No but I'm saying Neville without protection still wouldn't have looked as bad as that.

Dalot is one of the worst players I've ever seen at Utd. He can't do anything, the wingers probably do need to offer more help defensively you're right but Dalot is beyond help.

He can't start another game, he'd be the number one target for every team we play against.

Thinking back to those threads in the Transfer Forum where people were moaning about us going for Trippier as back up and that we should give Dalot a decent run. :houllier:

Said it before, he's like Buttner that shipped out ASAP. Buttner was ok-ish going forward, but damn clueless at the back.

That was the worst performance I've seen from a player who played full 90. He struggled defensively so badly tonight that he lost all confidence going forward and couldn't even do the things he's capable of.

Honestly would still strongly consider someone else. 3 at the back with Elanga at wingback would be better but we probably won't as this team is so top heavy.

Looking over my shoulder.
He looks unfit. He’s the slowest fullback I’ve seen on the first five yards. Everyone just walks past him. With AWB this game would have been completely different since he at least can defend one on one.

dalot is tidy on the ball, but that is it. Nothing more.
