I thought he wasn't as involved in the game but was trying. Our build up play was also too slow which isn't gonna help the forwards when it comes to combination play, which Sancho is good at.

Still not good enough!!!!! I don't see the improvement you guys talking about.

You don't need Mbappe level pace to run at defenders, cut inside or go wide and cross, he should be more direct with his dribbling and running to wreck havoc..

And yes I know this is not his style but he gotta try something and force the issue a bit more.

In the first half he was the best outfield United player which isn’t really high praise but he is slowly getting there.

I think if we got Donny in the team instead of Pogba drifting over to his side we could get him in behind a bit more often. Just simple give and go. He's going to be some player but I have reservations about him matching our style with Pogba Fred or McT in the middle playing off him.

Seriously isn't that good at all atm. Jessie has more of an influence on the game. I hope soon he rediscovers this amazing form that made us blow a ton of money on him.

Better tonight. Should've scored too. But still a long way to go. Villarreal were a stubborn team though, it looked like we were never going to break them down, and we almost didn't. I'd like to see him start again at the weekend.

The issue is that it doesn't look like the midfield is being used to build play and instead we look to build play from wide areas. I honestly can't see VdB being much use in a setup which looks to play direct football with out attempting to control central areas via the midfielders. It's also why I can't see someone like Hannibal being given a chance anytime soon.

He needs to grow a pair of balls and go into these games with some swagger. Just turning up and doing the easy pass back to the full back/whoever is not acceptable.

If only Roy Keane was still about he'd drill that into him in training. You haven't made it - you've got to work harder than you ever have.

Got to love the new signing-optimism on here as that was basically a nothing performance. He had one nice pass on the break in the first half and besides from that he did pretty much nothing that came off. He's not suited to our (lack of) style as he struggles to beat a man and he'd rather try quick passes and moves, while most our other players are a mix of backpassers and hollywood-passers.

I'm convinced its a confidence issue with Sancho, which surprises me because he seems a self-confident fella. Still, I guess its easy to forget he's still pretty young. No doubt he's feeling the pressure given the competition for places, which will only intensify when Rashford returns. Looks like he just needs to trust his talent and play his natural game. I think if he could get a goal or an assist it'd take a big weight off of his shoulders.

Many, many fans on here don't know football. I have no idea what they're watching.

Was our best player first half, 2nd half he was quieter due to never getting the ball and Vilarreal sitting deeper.

Pogba and Telles should be much faster with the ball. I thought he was OK but he thinks and acts in different speed and he's not compatible. He'll need to adapt, because I doubt there will be any change from out play

I thought he was pretty good, surprised to see the negativity here.

Has a lovely touch and movement to him, just really needs a touch more space and teammates near him. Villareal were excellent at having 3 men around him at most points.

Showing signs of life. This guy needs to be played into form. Pogba isn't a winger. Play him in midfield.

The standards need to be higher.

As an attacking player in our team you need to be scoring or assisting goals, creating chances, being consistently involved in dangerous attacks. I just didn't see that.

Being neat and tidy is not enough in those attacking positions, you need to affect games. He was ok at best.

I'm not that worried, he's young and we made a 10+ year investment when we signed him, it's not the end of the world if his first 5 games have been a write off. I don't want to see him waste an entire season like this though, we really needed his creative impact on the team to improve us and he's showing us nothing so far.

He has to improve drastically right away or else he can forget starting games when Rashford is back. I know it's still early but I've been very disappointed so far.

Maybe we're now seeing why he had very little involvement at the Euro's...

he simply doesn't add anything to the team.

Early days still, but I find some of the praise he’s got over the past few week a bit bizarre. Reminds me of when people use to rave about Januzaj when he did a couple of neat tricks in a game whilst being largely anonymous.

He’s been pretty underwhelming if we’re being honest, need to get out of that mindset of “he’s making the runs, couple nice carries/dribbles”, as this is what Lingard used to get absolutely slated for.

I think fans are hiding it, and some patience is required, but we all expected him to be something of an instant impact.

Probably getting overly defensive because he’s a new signing but to me he looks like a winger playing in a team that hasn’t had a proper winger for nearly a decade.

If he is indeed like a more athletic Mata maybe this is why we held out for him for so long and we are thinking with linear improvement he will eventually slot into our current way of playing instead of our team evolving into something different to suit him? Just a guess but Im also assuming we keep playing Pogba in a two in the middle because we do actually want to build the play through there but it depends on which Pogba shows up. I think Donny and Fred or McT should be given a shot for a few games. Losing hope for Donny big time though.

I don’t think we can play Greenwood, Ronaldo and Sancho from the start of games. There’s not enough workrate there. Greenwood offered more for me tonight, so come the weekend I’m opting for Lingard on the other flank.

When I mean 'build through wide areas' I mean via the fullbacks who are the wide receivers in the game today. Sancho is actually a central player who can go wide but is most effective in central zones. So IMO not having top level creativity in midfield is slightly perplexing for myself and not sure how long this can continue for.

Genuinely think he's getting better and better with every game. Slowly but surely he's integrating and confidence is growing.

We need to get him in the half-spaces more.

I feel like he's too wide and that's not the player he is.

He is only like Mata if played on the left. Rashford, who fits Ole’s style of trying to do everything really quickly and in moments, will replace him there within weeks.

He’s quite frustrating to watch, you can see his confidence is very low and he is trying to play it safe whenever he has the ball If it carries on until January I think we should really look at loaning him to a bottom half team like Norwich, Southampton or Newcastle until the end of season so he can regain some confidence and get used to the league more. Once Rashford is back he will go down in the pecking order too so a loan could be a good move.

Thought he was good tonight. All of our front 3 struggled and he was the best of the lot.

People need to understand that our midfield aren't getting the ball to him quick enough. Look at Curtis Jones last night, he had his full back 1 on 1 at least 4 times in the first half.

Once we start building up our play better Sancho will be great. Time.
