Doesn't have to be a free agent. Ole wasn't a free agent when we approached him.
I don't mean this as a dig at Ole but it was such a big step up for him that getting him away from his then club was never going to be an issue. That's less so the case with people already in higher profile jobs.

Precisely.

Without wanting to sound completely tone deaf, but we are Manchester United, ffs. 99% of managers out there would love to manage our club and we have the financial might to strike any deal necessary to bring whomever we might want here.

We think nothing of signing £20m+ players but apparently would baulk at throwing that sum at a club as compensation for their manager. That never made much sense to me and it’s frustrating that that’s the way we operate.

Defined style of play - new school - continental (dutch or german lineage). Worth a gamble.

People suggesting Conte make you realise there is a lot of people on here who know nothing about our club ,

Conte is everything United don’t stand for, short term’ism with dross football who never sticks around, it will be Mourinho all over again ffs, don’t you lot never learn

I’m not saying we don’t need a new manager but jaysus stop throwing ridiculous flavour of the month suggestions out without actually thinking about it for a second

And made United fans the most depressed probably we’ve been in the last decade and literally created a messy toxic environment in our club … or shall we need add that part as it doesn’t fit your agenda

I don’t have an agenda, I think Mourinho should’ve been sacked before his third season began.

Just as I think Ole should’ve been replaced this Summer.

The fact is that Utd have gone downhill since Mourinho’s peak here, and Ole has WAY better players.

Conte, Zidane, Ten Haag, Potter.

I’d take any one of them tomorrow. Shame it’ll only be a fantasy.

Anyone watching this game who thinks Ten Hag could turn these players into a high press?

I know it's against the recent trend here but tbh I don't rate Tuchel. After seeing how PSG played against us, we met them four times I think and I was not impressed with Tuchel at all. His CL at Chelsea was really lucky if you look at how they ended up in the final. And how Pep fecked up.

I watched Chelsea against City the other day and imo we did a lot better against City in the last two seasons despite having a much weaker team than the current Chelsea. And the current City is not stronger than the City in the last two seasons, if not weaker.
I have to admit, I'm no fanboy of Tuchel, I was just presenting facts to someone who seem to think he wasn't an upgrade on Ole. He is, and my point was he would surely get more out of our players. But I'm not sure that's quite enough long term

Mad thought, but how about people just support the club, manager, coaches and players currently at the club instead of attacking them for every little thing they can think of? Surely having a more positive outlook and not spouting so much negativity everywhere will help lift the mood around this place? Crazy stuff, I know, but maybe support the team, even when form is patchy and results may not be the absolute best. I'd love to have seen this place if it was around when United were mid-table and getting relegated :houllier:

So we should all do a Boris Johnson impersonation: close our eyes and pretend everything is wonderful... sorry but when I smell a fart, I don't pretend it's eau de cologne

The Ole In lot are the biggest fools I've ever known. We've been terrible for weeks and have had a few bad results and after a lucky smash and grab win they want to come back and tell us all to forget about it now. Hell even going back to the end of last season we were rubbish too. Last 9 games saw 2 draws, 3 wins and 4 losses. The writing has been on the wall for a long time and this season already could have been far worse if games were won on merit or we didn't have as much luck with teams passing up chances against us.

I honestly think Ole got away with it last night.

Im reading and hearing this morning he got his subs spot on. I tend to disagree. He got lucky with it. We finished a game we needed to win with Matic, McTominay, and Fred on the pitch while we took off Sancho, Pogba & Greenwood and left VDB and Martial on the bench.

Its easy to say the subs worked, but if that game had have been 30 seconds shorter he would be under huge pressure (Ironically for making the subs he did). Its bought him more time of course but the writing is on the wall. I just don’t see him taking us to the next level unfortunately.

Isn't that precisely why people are saying the subs worked? It's counter-intuitive to armchair supporters, and not an obvious decision but paid off - similar to when he brought on Matic against West Ham.

You don't just substitute like for like to change the game. He deserves some credit for switching things up.

^and I say that as someone who was groaning when I saw Matic coming on as our first sub. That's why I'm not a football manager (well that and many other reasons)

We will waste this season under Ole.

I just hope some of our players have a stormer of a season because our collective play will likely remain below par.

Every single win geniuses post on this forum that he got lucky. Shows a real lack of experience of football to think a manager can just only be lucky for hundreds of games years and years in a row. But it's how people justify their anger and bitterness so it will continue

Conte - no fecking way, good coach but not for the football we like our team to play.

Zidane - a big maybe, he has the man management skills and he is tactically levels above Ole. But I'm not really sure if he'd like to coach in England.

Ten Haag - maybe, not sure if he has the charisma and leadership qualities to guide huge egos like Ronaldo, Varane etc.

Potter - his Brighton plays some great football with basically mediocre players. Could be a success could be Moyes-disaster all over again.

A good shout (at least until the end of the season) would be Ernesto Valverde former of Barca. He is tactically astute and he can manage the prima donnas as he's proved with Messi, Busquets etc.

How devastated were you guys when we got the last minute winner last night ?
Nope, I cheered like a mad man and burst into a dozen cringey "SIIIIU"s.

Doesn't change the fact that our manager is clearly out of his depth and needs replacing if we want to be genuine contenders. We can't keep relying on individual brilliance to bail us out. Ole is lucky we have prime De Gea back otherwise we could have easily been 3-0 down at half time.

Stop fishing.

What is our club about? What precisely does Conte do that the club doesn't "stand for"?
Improving individual players? Playing structural football? Being in control of games with and without possession, but still creating enough chances to score enough goals to win league titles?
I'm not sure people who are against Conte know what they're talking about.

The best solution would be to buy Trippier or another RB and a DM in January.

That's what the next manager would want to do anyway.

So give Ole the final two pieces and see how he does for the rest of the season.

Return of the player manager with Ronaldo... :nervous:

Zidane would be the obvious one for me but like you I'm not sure he will come to the premier league ... PSG or France would seem a better fit for him.

The one manager I would like to see though even though he has the reputation for negative football is Simeone ... hes a winner and though it would probably take a lot of money to get him I cant help but think he would transform us into contenders very quickly.

Probably we end up with Ole until close to the end of the season when we are out of all competitions and perhaps there will be some clearer options by then?

So you that the next manager would want a very expensive 31 year old RB? Ole should be work with what he's got. He is at the wheel and should therefore learn how to drive.

It might be the case that having Henderson retained here as competition has bought the best out of De Gea again.

I think Brendan Rodgers could do a very good job.
This team now needs someone who can get good attacking football played. Some patterns to develop like gary neville explained. Ole has not managed that so far. Good attacking chemistry from this team will get 2-4 goals in a game like yesterday’s. If defence and midfield is poor. Fair enough you will concede too but right now we conceding still but not getting best out of attack.
liverpool under Klopp were scoring a lot then defence was poor. Proves that we should be better at attacking that our attack warrants.

Every time we’ve had a manager since Sir Alex. We’ve always blamed something midfield is poor, manager is wrong, players are not suitable to pressing game etc.
At times it is about making tough decisions in steps. Ole’s helped build a great squad.
can we now get a manager who can take it to next level? Or sit and watch.

this is what in my view made Barcelona, Madrid, Chelsea, City successful. They found the right successor to take team forward.
If we lost yesterday. Ole would not get sacked. Whereas, one of the above clubs would very likely change manager to avoid risking the next 4 CL games. Ronaldo, Pogba, Fernandes wouldn’t want to be in Europa.
