Love Edi, he adds a different dimension when he's on the pitch. Love the hunger and the never die attitude, unbelieveble player.

Surprised he didn't come on much earlier, when we were struggling to create anything. Looked like the ball hit him, rather than him heading it, for what should have been a huge chance to score. Perhaps he assumed the defender would head it clear. Worked hard as usual.

Tevez. He had no right to win that ball. Won it, kept it in play, and played a good ball into the box.

Has to start. He's too good not to.

What an absolute legend this guy is and for some reason he is not thought of as legendary as he should be IMO.
People do forget that since 2007 only Ronaldo and Messi have scored more goals than him. No no one else, not Neymar, not Zlatan, not Lewandowski...

His effort is contagious, you can tell everyone loves him and love playing with him, Mason clearly looks up to him and we always just look so much better with him on the pitch.

At some point he might force Ole's hand and we might start playing with 2 strikers. Its how Conte would play for sure IMO if he takes over.
3-5-2 might actually suit us really well.

Anywho can not love Cavani. Still so massively underrated, too.

It's embarrassing how a guy at the end of his career whose got nothing left to prove to anyone can show more determination and hunger than guys at the "peak" of their careers.

Let me watch eleven guys with Cavani's integrity every week and I'll be a happy man.

The team improved instantly when Cavani was brought on. A lot more bite and fighting spirit up front. He HAS to start every CL game and IMO Vdb should be given a run as well:

Ronaldo Cavani
Fernandes
(Pogba or Mctominay) Vdb (Fred or Matic)
Shaw Maguire Varane Awb
Ddg

Subs:
Rashford
Greenwood
Sancho
Lingard

He is too good in the side not to start. His impact is superb, I don't care which of Greenwood or Sancho we drop but he needs to play.

He’s a momentum changer. He gives so much; even on an off day his work ethic is so important

How can anyone dislike this man. Whatta fecking player!

DDG saved the game and Ronnie won the game yes. But it was Edison who changed the game. United looked like they were done and walking in sand before the substitution. His effort and tracking of the ball was god levels in the minutes he had. Got the entire team going in that short spam.

Absolutely ridiculous to single Bruno out as an example of an attacking player without defensive attributes. He works about as hard as Cavani.
Running like a headless chicken is not defensive attributes. He works hard but he's piss poor defensively. Cavani is miles better.

Horseshit.
It's not really, all of Greenwood Ronaldo Bruno Sancho create an illusion of defending. Pogba is not that bad imo but can't be arsed and keep focus for the whole game. Martial isn't even trying to look interested. It's a huge problem for the team overall.

His pressing, work rate, his first touch, his ability to bring others in to play with his back to goal etc needs to be utelised more as part of the squad.

He just really occupies the opposition defenders.

How many players in our squad could you imagine doing what Edi does there? Can probably count them on one hand.
That clip is a bit embarrassing for Ronaldo there...although he may have redeemed himself a couple of minutes after that...

Somehow Ole is going to have to get hardworkers around Ronaldo as we're too easy to play through.

Honestly can see him try to make the front 3 that ended the game (Ron-Cav-Lin) work more often. Lots of pressing and movement there. But it means no room for our ballers Mason and Jadon.

Ronaldo was already knackered and then Ole moved him onto the wing. Not being funny but moving a 36 year old into an area where you have to run a lot more isn't exactly the smartest move.

The ball wasn't a great one so I don't blame him for giving up on it.

Ronaldo was tired and is older than Cavani who was fresh. Don't see what's so embarrassing

To put Bruno in the same sentence as our other attackers - apart from Cavani - when it comes to defending is actually shocking.
Yes he leaves gaps in the midfield the same way our wingers don’t help our fullbacks. But Bruno still helps out a lot in pressing and defending and always works hard.

We have a few conundrums in the starting 11, especially in midfield and who should/shouldn't play, but I think one of the biggest conundrums should be how we get both Cavani and Ronaldo on the pitch as much as physically possible. This guy HAS to be on the pitch imo.

I absolutely love this guy, he's an absolute fan favourite and it's no wonder because his attitude and application on the pitch is fecking outstanding.

Turned the game for us last night. Chased everything, dragged us up the pitch. El Matador is the man.

I'd rather play him in midfield than Bruno. Cavani is like the only attacking player with some defensive attributes.
So out of all attacking players, you pointed out Bruno for lacking in defensive contribution, the player who presses well (as good as any out there) and covers good distance.

He pressed 29 times against Villarreal and that's a ridiculously high number.

Ronaldo literally tried to slide tackle the goalkeeper when pressing a few minutes later, so Cavani did in fact shame him into giving just that little bit more. We do need Ronaldo to try and spark the team with real belief in difficult moments. Chasing down a lost cause can absolutely ignite the Stretford End. Cavani does that. Bruno does that. Ronaldo - not so much.

He just wants to win football matches. Seems weird to say but the way some of our players play, you don't really get the sense they have this insane drive like Edi does.

Surely you didn't take it that seriously though?
Both Bruno and Cavani are no midfielders, but Cavani is better at defending. Would you disagree?

Its funny that when Ole talks about drive and desire his detractors laugh. Yet Edi displays so many of the intangible qualities that make a good player a great player. If he had just jogged about waiting for opportunities we may not have won last night.

The way he was alive to Bruno getting the ball and threading it through, then fought with the Villareal player to keep it alive to get it back to Bruno so he could lay it off for Fred's cross. Cavani's willingness to work for the win is something, you hope rubs off on the squad as a whole.

Good to see everyone noticing what I've been enjoying for over a decade, all the while seeing imbeciles bring up youtubes of missed goals in games in which he had still scored a couple anyway.

Bruh, fatigue isn't linear. If for one sequence you are tired, a few seconds later you can still make an acceleration

I still say we play Cavani on the right like PSG did. Then Greenwood/Sancho can fight for the left spot or come on as subs. People said he was younger when he played on the right but he's got more drive and work ethic than everyone else in the team so I don't see how it's a negative to play him there.

Completely agree. I'd rather a striker who gets chances thanks to his hardwork than the opposite. I never cared about the misses because the most prolific scorers miss a lot too. I'll never not be amazed by his willingness to sacrifice his energy for this team. It's truly incredible
