Inspired by Ronaldo's heroics last night, I'd like for RedCafe to come together this afternoon to share your favourite clutch moments in soccerball.

What are clutch moments, you ask?

Clutch performance in sports is the phenomenon of athletes under pressure or "in the clutch", usually occuring in the last minutes of a game, to summon strength, concentration and whatever else necessary to succeed, to perform well, and perhaps change the outcome of the game. It is the opposite is "choking", defined as a failure to perform as needed, when under pressure.

Here's an obvious one by the play pattern master:

Here's an arguably wilder one:

It need not just be goals. It could also be an electrifying performance by defensive minded player, summoning the strength to perform a last ditch tackle that saves the team.

Soccerball?

From context, nothing can beat the sheer joy of O'Shea at Anfield for me

Can't beat Camp Nou 99. Or even the 99 semi final performance at Villa Park in 99 really.

You chose that title to deliberately trigger people, didn't you?

My all-time favourite one for this category has to be Macheda. Look at the Solskjaer and O'Shea goals already posted in the thread: highly important and brilliant moments, sure, but essentially both goals were about someone sticking a leg out at the right time.

The Macheda goal, on the other hand... A 17-year-old who never played before for the first team got subbed on in a crucial game in which we couldn't string two passes together. Where senior players were having absolute stinkers. And he did a fecking Cruyff turn in the 93rd minute before curling a shot into the top corner. I mean, feck off. If that were a movie, I'd say the scriptwriters went a bit over the top.

I'm gonna go with Keane in Turin. (pretty nice rhyme to it as well)

Picking up the yellow ruling him out of the possibility of playing in the finale.

And then - to perform like that - a fecking colossal performance, scoring, captaining us from the brinks of defeat to our most glorious moment.....

The Macheda goal has to be my favorite of this type.

Van Persie’s free kick against City.

Owen’s winner against City.

Rooney’s bicycle kick against City.

Overall this is my all time favourite performance in a United shirt.

Ban anyone who mentions Aguero!

For non United moment that Watford one will never be beaten, the injustice of the penalty, the double save and then Deeney scoring is so fitting. Zola getting manhandled by an overly zealous coach as he celebrates is the cherry on top.

Giggs solo goal vs Arsenal in the Fa cup semifinal? Obviously the 99 CL final has been mentioned, but Giggs goal wasn't just the winner it was one of the greatest goals of all time.

cant believe we got this far without Ramos header vs Atleti

One of the most clutch moments ever. Di Maria's run for the bale winner after is up there too, and Bale's winner v Liverpool
Why would our favourite be a Madrid goal though?! It’s not like there’s a shortage of United ones to pick!

1 Solakjaer
2 Macheda
3 VDS save from Anelka

honorable mentions: Forlan vs Southampton and Chelsea, Owen vs City, Rooney vs City 2010, Scholes vs City 2010, O Shea at Anfield

Gerrard vs West Ham in the 2006 FA Cup final. I was there. Doesn’t get more clutch than that.
