Why are United fans so oblivious to importance of good managers?

It has always irked me that some United fans refuse to believe that managers have levels just like players and you simply can't win with average manager who has no plan and tactical nous. We've seen the likes of Klopp, Pep etc. build teams that play identically dominating brands of football across multiple leagues. It's as if they have some sort of formula, a secret recipe that if given time and adequate resources will definitely result in successful teams that dominate games and win silverware. Why are some United fans and the board completely oblivious to this?

United fans are bred to stick with the manager. That works when the manager is good.

Unfortunately we've currently got a manager that can't get half a tune from a world class squad/guitar.

Tuchel rests the same amount of players and is 1.0 up in 9 mins. Chelsea will win handsomely.

United should have lost today.

It also doesn't help when forums like these are censored so much. Content from anyone with an opposing or critical view is deleted or threads locked.

Free speech and all that....

Only when Ole is in charge, it this was any regular manager we wouldn't be supporting.

It's a romantic thing that's drowning us.

A couple more league games and some fans won't be able to hide behind the points and table position. Arsenal can catch us up if they win today, could be only 2 points behind.

Managers are the most important people at each club. Give Ole the best 11 players in the world and I still don’t think he’d win the title.

We need to move away from the class of 92 and the times during Sir Alex. It's quite obvious that that was an anamoly, and we'll likely never see such a domination again. Just because he was able to build quality squads does not mean most managers can.

It's admirable to stay loyal to the manager, especially if he's a club legend as a player. It's foolish to continue to do that when it's clear as day that he is not up to it. We need to rethink our whole position on this manager thing moving forward.

SAF syndrome. Many have only lived through that era and the same with players like Neville who played under the same manager so it clouds judgement

United fans were burned by crap outside appointments like Moyes, LVG and Mourinho. Solskjaer has done a better job, but more than anything, he's given a sense of warm sentimentality that's been missing in previous years.

So people are hanging on to that.

It's Heart vs Head.

Nope it was the same with Moyes too. It's not just the support for the manager but also pure refusal to believe that training and tactics have any bearing on performance. They believe that our poor performances are down to lack of determination which is ridiculous. For example people blame players for making poor passes but if you look at the off the ball movement then it's clear as a daylight that our players who have the ball have really limited options.

It's the fans you need to be asking that question to, it's the board mate.

Yeah, you couldn't be more wrong about the forum being censored. A lot of people avoid the United forum, player performance forum and match day threads because the majority of it is our own fans shitting all over the players, manager and club no matter what. There's much more hate and criticism on here than there is positivity and praise, so yeah, you've certainly got that wrong.

Probably because most of us have lived at least 20 years of our life knowing that we didn't have to worry about the quality of our manager because we had the best.

It was never a concern until 2013.

The crazy thing about this is that United fans should be more aware of the importance of a quality manager than fans of any other club. Our club has been properly successful under TWO managers in our history, while the other 20 or so haven't come close. And yet the fanbase clings to every single manager and believes that they will all become Sir Alex if they spend enough time here.

It's actually unbelievable considering we first hand should know the importance of having a great manager.

Bring someone in to bring us a new 'United way'. What I'd do to have Klopp at united, ugh.

Sick of the nonsense that it has to be someone that has been part of united. Just don't bring a stubborn manager like Mourinho or Van Gaal either.

Because an alarming number of us think Ferguson was no better than some bloke we found at a bus stop and that it is inevitable anyone will succeed in management if we give them four years in the job

Because lots of our fans are obsessed with romanticism. Our manager is too.

It’s weird how fans are so reticent to this when they’re so easy to point out fundamental flaws on the pitch - e.g. we clearly don’t have the central midfield thats to the standard we need it to be, but we also don’t have the same in the manager!

It's been 8 years and 4 underperforming managers. How long is it going to take to get accustomed to the reality that every other club in world football lives with?

Thinking the once in a lifetime situation that happened with the greatest manager of all time will repeat itself is not a good idea.

The sooner we look at managers more like Chelsea do, essentially as a player that can be replaced easily, the better off we'll be.

They're playing Southampton at home, though. We won that fixture 9-0 last season.
And you forgot about Everton, West Ham, Aston Villa and Southampton earlier this season already?

Young Boys?

Sorry but Uncle Ole is on his way out.

It’s wishful thinking and people wanting to believe we have right man in charge and success is just around the corner. That’s much more comforting for a lot of people than facing up to much more likely scenario that Ole just isn’t good enough.

I’d love to see Ole succeed but you have to suspend belief because it isn’t and never has been very likely.

Stability wins you titles. The United way. Loyalty. Winning mentality. Etc etc

Football quality and especially quality possesion isn't out thing it seems. The team desperately needs modernization not "winners" and "stability".

As others have said: it's that we've been conditioned to consider managerial stability as one of the most important things in football, and standing behind the manager as a sacred duty of all fans.

It's understandable, given that we basically had two great managers with 20+ year tenures.

Because we have been sold on the class of 92, the success which comes with longevity and feel hanging on to dregs of those times will see us reach those highs again.

It won't, Ole needs to go. He is absolutely clueless. I've just seen his post match interview and it's insulting the level is which he talks and analyses the game. It's playground stuff, he sounds like a punter calling into Talksport.

We need a manager who is at the top of his game now, not ones who are past their best (Jose, LVG) or learning on the job.

We wouldn't sign a Molde striker and expect him to excel upfront. So why would a Molde level manager succeed!?

We are a joke!

If you look through our history, you will see that Utd have mostly made terrible managerial appointments barring the two that delivered us so much success.

But to keep compounding the poor mistake by procrastinating (because once in our history that very good manager was afforded time) is the height of stupidity. I'm afraid some fans also fall into this romanticism that eventually everyone comes good!

David Moyes - Everyone got sick off and was counting down the days until he was sacked
Van Gaal - Most got sick of and were delighted he was sacked even after the FA Cup
Mourinho - Most everyone was delighted he was sacked
Ole - Go to one of the many Ole threads

Basically, Man Utd fans can tell when a manager is not good enough and get suitably impatient. I am not sure what you want people to do.

Why was the sack Ole thread closed when it had hundreds of pages in the thread and a vote that had gone to 55% of voters wanting Ole out?

Psychology is fascinating. Everyone inside the stadium knows deep down Ole's not up to it yet nobody will act.

People tend to forget that our greatest manager who was given time, was someone who broke Rangers-Celtic duopoly, had won multiple league titles, multiple domestic cups and Cup winners cup beating Real Madrid in final. That doesn't mean any random guy like Moyes and Ole too will come good if given time.

Blind loyalty, happened with Fergie so it has to be thesame with any other manager.
We are generally not a very bright bunch and way too sentimental about things that dont even matter.

Remember when Moyes turned a squad of title winners into losing to Everton?
That was down to the manager. But Ole's song is still sung loudly. Because he has a special connection to the club. It adds to the romanticism. I don't like it personally. I see the legends and ex players as the players they were. That's why I don't care much about their managerial or punditry career. Let's not appoint any more ex player as a manager.

Just look at the lineups people post on here and it's obvious. Good managers wouldn't come close to picking the lineups they want, or play the football they want. Fans seem to be of a FIFA/FM generation.
