Why would you click on the thread?
To get an idea on if it is worth watching or not based on what people are saying.

You can give your opinion on the show (which I agree with most of what you said) but the details should be hidden for those yet to see it.

Why isn't anyone investigating 500 people including one policeman disappearing.

I think the moaning about the VIPs is way over the top. They were dull caricatures but they didn't have that much airtime and were no worse than the is the North Korean girl a spy, organ harvesting and frontman/policeman brothers sub-plots.

Battle Royale is everything this isn't. It's still a decent watch in places but nothing special and the VIP's 100% ruin the show.
I think the VIP were put in to make future sequels and prequels that don’t relate to these characters or South Korea easier, now we know there’s an international element and the games are not exclusive to South Korea

It was decent. Final episode was pretty boring. Saw the boss coming from a mile away.
Yeah a lot of the twists were very predictable
1) The lady that didn’t get picked wasn’t shot straight away and was dragged away, I thought she didn’t get killed
2) 001 appeared near Gi Hons house was very suspicious and made me realise he was part of the game
3) All deaths are shown on screen, 001 death wasn’t and from the sky view you don’t see his body

per year since 1988. Lots of people disappear in the US, but it looks like far fewer in SK. In fact it looks like the games started recently according to this chart https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/opinion/2019/08/197_273584.html
I think poor people going missing is taken less seriously… even in the U.K. look at how many women and children have gone missing who don’t make the news. Some are found murdered months or years later eg the two women found accidentally some fridge in Canning Town, London, or the boy found in a junkies loft in North London.

But when a well off lady went missing after horse riding it was all over the news until it turned out she decided to take a break from her family for a few days

Great series for me.

Plus obviously always watch series/movies in the original language, dubbing makes everything seem hilarious.

These people were hopelessly in debt, so if they suddenly went missing I imagine it wouldn’t come as a surprise.[\spoiler]

Really good series (8/10), was hesitant to watch given how disappointed I was with Money heist and all the hype that got.

Episode 2 and 6 were really good episodes, the ending was a bid bland.

Just finished.

It feels like they didn’t know how to end it so they went in every different direction before not really deleting the whole script.

Is he gonna take on ‘those people‘ for a bunch of series now?

Still seems tenuous really that he’d set up a thing like that just because he’s bored. I get that money doesn’t make you happy and I get that humans are bad but come on, really?

Watched this Thursday and Friday night. Had to take a break after episode 6. First in a long time a show/movie has made me cry like that. Great piece of art this season.

Only started watching it because I realised the memes were eventually gonna spoil the show for me so gave in.

Liar game is great, I haven’t read it since it came out but I really enjoyed it.

I haven’t watched squid game but my foster sister has been ringing me up to go through the episodes, at first I was sure that I’d read the manga it was based on but then it ended up being completely different, and I found the show wasn’t an adaptation of any previous work.

Dunno if you know the manga I’m on about but I remember it being bloody and mental, and had the whole death games thing going on.
Go read Liar Game if you're interested in this sort of genre. Squid Game is basically a dumbed down version of Liar Game.

You learnt Korean to watch this? Great commitment to the cause.

This series is so awful and overrated. Alice in Borderland is a much better survival drama.
Finished Alice, they are currently filming season 2. Release mid 2022. Better story and production quality. Also much more yumminess!!

I started it last night after reading this thread. Up to episode 2 now (the building with the bomb in it).
Is the start weak? Its like nothing is explained as to how the gsme creators have done all this. For comparison, Squid Game established the background of the game and how it started in Episode 1.

Alice explains the games a little bit but it's later in the series.

Alice is also based on a manga which adds depth that the adaptation can struggle to match. If you like the show I'd recommend reading the comic.

Why did 456 decide to go back into the games? I mean he sucked at them; he made it with 1 second to spare on more than one game and technically lost the marble game.

It was a good show though, well made and enjoyable

Well I would assume that because they are targeting people with massive debts that any investigation would conclude that the person has either killed themselves or has disappeared to avoid the debt. Without a body there's not much else they could do

Finished this last night. Generally enjoyed, I thought the dubbing to English whilst not perfect was better than I thought it would be and saved the distraction of subtitles.

It's very gripping, binge worthy, couldn't wait to get home from the pub quiz last night to watch the last 2 episodes!

I would say however:

The ending was a little underwhelming. I suppose it was too much to hope for that the detective would blow the case open and get a message back to the mainland.

And really maybe it was predictable that the Front Man was his brother, but I didn't see it coming at the time!

The ending reminded me a lot of the ending to the second Escape Room movie, leaves the door wide open for series 2 and I'd be amazed if they didn't walk straight through it.

There's also potential there for other films ('Squid Games - Origins' anyone?) Because we know from the archives that the game has been going on for years

You should probably put your post in a spoiler for those who have not seen the show
Done that. But pretty sure Red Cafe's spoiler policy says you don't need to use tags after the episode has been legally released.

A bit different with Netflix to be fair. That policy was made for weekly releases, it's tougher with shows that release all at once and where people watch at difference paces. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask people to use spoilers.

It's fine to do it but you can't really enforce it. Show has been aired. Anyone who wants to watch would know all episodes have been aired so check this thread at your own risk.

I hate watching things with subtitles! It's too distracting.
How can subtitles distract you in a Korean movie? Do you speak Korean?!

If anything, subtitles stop you getting distracted. You’re forced to pay attention to what’s happening on the screen because if you dick about on your phone you might miss something important.

I think he just wants to look at the actual action and not at the bottom of the screen. So watching it dubbed means you don't have to constantly switch your focus from middle of the screen to the text at the bottom.

Is it just me or is this not a thing? I never have an issue taking in both at the same time.
