Even if you think Messi is better, does that make Ronaldo any less of a great footballer? He's still one of the best players to every lace up a pair of boots.

I think some people use Messi to put down Ronaldo as an insult after every great achievement Ronaldo does which means Ronaldo doesn't get the credit he deserves. Which is a bit sad really we can't just enjoy it for what it is without constantly turning it into a battle competition abouts who's better etc or about Messi.

When Wayne Rooney scored a great goal (that goal against Man City for example) or done an amazing achievement like becoming United's record scorer, people and the media didn't put it down by posting about Ronaldo or Messi or comparing it to a Messi or Ronaldo goal to try to belittle the achievement? I don't get that warped mentality why people do it when Ronaldo does something good to bring up Messi just because you think Messi is better (you must really hate the guy to spread that negative energy). Enjoy it for what it is as he will be long retired soon.

It's boring. I'm just happy one of them plays for my club and plays in the Premier League every-week. As it stands Ronaldo's contract expires at the end of next season, so I'll enjoy watching him until then, and whether he decides to retire or just leaves the club I'll tell my grandkids about seeing Ronny play tor us. If people want to spend times negative energy putting Ronaldo down until then simply because they think Messi is better.. it's upto them but I won't be engaging in it. It's a shame though people can't enjoy and appreciate both without constantly turning it into a comparison between them to try to belittle the others achievements =(

Hopefully Ronny wins another Ballon d'Or before he retires, I don't think he deserves to finish his career 2 behind Messi (should be equal or much closer like 1 between them). But yeah Viva Ronaldo!

It’s partly fan boy mentality, and partly common phenomenon of great rivalry. One being better or achieve greater things would often be at the expense of the other greatness being diminished, as peoole often like to rate their own GOAT or best ever.

Even in music we have John and Paul falling out at one point due to their rivalry.

The way I see it, in order to fit in a luxury player like Ronaldo the rest of the team has to be balanced. And that's where the Pogba dilemma comes into play. There's a reason why Pogba was flourishing off the left before Ronaldo came in, and that's because the setup of the team was able to make up for having an unconventional winger. Trying to fit in both Pogba and Ronaldo will be a difficult task for Ole, especially considering we don't have a decent DM to compensate for Pogba playing in the midfield. Personally I feel as though we need to surround Ronaldo with proper wingers who will track back and do the pressing. Same goes for that midfield.

At this moment I would take Martial of last season over him, at least he could hold the ball half the time.

That was absolutely diabolical and painful to watch. Hes a fantastic player but absolutely at the wrong club. We hardly create clear chances and gift goals for fun. If he'd gone to city he'd have just scored 3 vs Burnley

His legs are starting to go, aside from the odd finish he offers pretty much nothing in the build up. His touch seems to be reaching Sanchez/Rooney levels in their last years with us, and it wasn't too dissimilar in his last season at Juve.

Part of the problem is that he's been overplayed in the last 2 or 3 seasons with no rotation or rest. That makes it even more baffling that he played in 2 meaningless games against Qatar and Luxembourg (90 minutes) over the international break. It's catching up to him now.

Yeah, I'm feeling now this signing has been a mistake. He's playing like a 60 years old in his testimonial match. His performance has been absolute shit regardless of the goals. We can't keep ignoring this.

Starting to give the vibes of Sanchez vol 2 and just like how Sanchez was the end of Mourinho, Ronaldo might end up being the end of Ole.

Needs to contribute more in the build. He's not our biggest issue or anything (Ole is) but it doesn't help to have a CF who is mostly a poacher especially given our midfield and how attack minded Bruno,Sancho and Greenwood are.

He’s fine, not his best game but everyone is shit.

He’s a player who needs chances created for him.

Falling in the same trap as Juve.
It's everyone's fault except for Ronnie as always. Juve fell off a cliff when he went there.

Unfortunately, unlike other more nuanced roles, Ronaldo is literally in the team to score. He does absolutely nothing else for the team other than score, and he should have done better on a few occasions. Especially him being offside for the Rashford pass is criminal.

When he doesn't score you might as well be playing with 10-men.

We all knew he wouldn't really play a big role in the build up or the press but we should expect him to do well when he gets the chance. He definitely looked off the pace today.
Ole needs to show guts to sub him off when it isn't happening for him.

He missed three sitters mate. One from Sancho, one from Shaw and one from Bruno. His legs are gone. If he was a bit, just a tiny bit faster he could have buried them all.

So do all strikers. It's why all of ours look just as bad as this today. Excuses are made for some but others get slated for the same.

Actually he's indeed a huge problem, regardless of Ole's awful tactics. It feels we're stuck with a player at the end of his career who offers nothing when he doesn't score, and we can't bench him because of how big a name he's. If he keeps on playing like this under the next manager, it'll be a huge, huge headache in how to move on from him.

He is a clever player, you can not take that away from him. But I dont think he is good enough for United anymore.

No team in particular.
Sure, he was crap today. He wasn’t crap for Portugal though.
He played against Qatar and Luxembourg ffs, before that he played against Ireland, who can't quality for a World Cup since 2002 for a reason.

Agreed.

He's gonna be a huge problem for the next manager too.

Will be invisible if the team is invisible.
I think this is the best post, amongst a bunch of woeful over emotional posts.
He'll be one of the sharpest finishers. He had 5 in 5 at the start for us, people seem to forget that already.

But in games like today, our total lack of system, and hopeful reliance on individuals comes home to roost.

Qatar and Luxemburgo. Such a great and professional teams. Was all about stat padding and some posters celebrating his goals in meaningless matches.

I'm in the side that signing Ronaldo was a mistake. Good in FIFA, not so god in real life anymore.

It is a good post. I'm a huge fan and always watch the games he plays at and the same happened in Juve.

I'm a firm believer I prefer Ronaldo to play badly rather than being invisible. Playing badly at least means he's in the game. Being invisible is just wasting him and the salary you're playing him.

Mind you, last 3 years he had at Real Madrid he was already moving out of build up play and the same absolutely happened as its happened in the last United games. RM struggled to create, and he was invisible. The difference was that those were the exception, not the rule (this last part is not a dig at United itself).

I dread to be around the cafe over the next month!

Roll on that run of easier opponents where we might make him a chance or 2!

I am finally Ole out camp but to be fair we are only 4 points behind Liverpool and 3 behind city. It is still early days. Hopefully we are going through a bad patch which every team goes through although it feels like something more fundamental.

Today we gave him three clear cut chances if you watch the match. One from Sancho, one from Shaw and one from Bruno.
