Just read Utd are going to give Maguire a new contract even though hes got 4 years left on the one he has. Why? This club wastes money when it doesnt need to.
Probably a reaction to other players coming in on bigger money. As one of the higher status players in the dressing room, that's going to prompt him to seek to have his own terms readjusted back in line.

Totally agree with you, He’s still got 4 years on his contract and it not like anyone else is trying to sign him from us.

Maybe to do with timing and his age at the end of his contract. A 5+1 contract now would see him contracted to play for us until he's an old man and of no use to anyone :)

This is exactly what I was expecting when Varane and Sancho came in on huge salaries.

Exactly, it's about status and the dressing room. Ajax had a similar situation where they extended with Tadic (Captain) to keep his status as their best paid player after signing Berghuis who would otherwise have been on more money.

It's worded as an "extension", but it's about the raise.

Not content with spunking £80m on him, we're offering £300,000 for an above average defender in Maguire when he has 4 years left on his contract. And we wonder why we have such a bloated wage bill.

It would be great if was back, but a bit worrying if he’s stressed back now because of Varane’s injury.
Yeah catch 22, don't want to rush him back but cannot afford to be dropping points. In my opinion a Bailly - Lindelof pairing pretty much guarantee us dropped points in this game.

Been very poor this season, not sure he'll be missed in this form and I'm a huge fan of his.

I still hope Maguire isn’t rushed back as there is such a hectic schedule the next month, with so many big games. And let’s just hope Lindelof doesn’t injure himself tonight against Greece.
Shite, can you imagine. Jones and Bailly at the back :nervous:

A disgrace of a performance that should have never been allowed to happen

Absolute pathetic by Ole to start him. Truly, completely pathetic.

Some people here honestly thought he was world-class last season.

£80m for a defender who turns like an oil tanker, has big positional issues and actively sucks the life out of our build up play with his 'why take 1 touch when 14 will do' style.

Lindelof/Varane is clearly - very clearly - our best partnership.

He was horrible but Ole chose to play a defender who trained only yesterday with the team. He was shocking though, genuine 0/10 from him.

Dreadful performance, but let's not ignore the fact that he was rushed back from injury and hadn't trained in weeks. There's no reason he should've started.

The funny thing is the club is looking to renew and have him among the top earners despite him still having years on his current deal

I'm not a big fan of Maguire, but, rushing him back from injury and dumping him in a backline against two pacy forwards who relish playing against us is terrible management. Even at his best, a player like Vardy is his nightmare forward, so to put him in against Vardy barely fit is sending him to the lions.

Flipping joker, especially for the last goal. I'd be furious if it was done by one of our attacking players, but seeing that from our club captain and (presumably) first choice center back...

poor game, static and error probe. Was he really fit. No point having a squad if you play unfit players for 90 minutes.
oles fault imo.

Shite. Not the game to be rushing him back for, should've waited for midweek at least.

Leicester fans had him rattled from the first minute and he never recovered. Unfit, no confidence, absolute horror show. At least 3 goals were down to him. I can't remember the 4th goal, was that him too?

One of the all-time worst individual performances by a United player. He was at least partly to blame for all four Leicester goals. But he should never have started. Even if he had been taken off at half-time we might have stood a chance.
