Laurent Blanc has been firing off his love United interviews recently. An outside chance?
He was a good coach and in my opinion he had the most entertaining France and PSG teams of the last decades but where is he as a coach after that long away?

Cup runs are no way to judge a manager. He inherited a ready made top squad and still looked pretty shambolic in the league. He’s not shown himself capable of taking over and rebuilding a top team and never had any kind of success other than in a very specific set of circumstances. Completely unproven IMO.
How many managers have won the champions league 3x in a row?

I agree with this in the sense that he was never good enough, never has been and never will so at this point is a waste of time for the club to keep him. Ideally, if he had any sense of integrity like Zidane he would had already resigned, that would be the best option rather than wait to get sacked eventually.

Im also not sold on Zidane but was he thst symbolic domestically? He won the league in one season and his worst take was something like 84 points right?

I also dont think we need a rebuild job here. If Zidane or anyone came they'd be spoilt with a fantastic side, only needing to strengthen with one or two players.

He also has two league titles and Madrid were the best team in the league during his first season from the moment he took over. Zidane is a bit more than a cup manager.

He won the league twice though? And the second time was with a fairly average team by Real standards that had been doing terrible.

I'm not saying Zidane is the answer but calling him a cup manager is a bit ridiculous, is that purely because he won the biggest cup in club football three times in a row or something?

Also what's wrong with inheriting a great squad and helping them achieve their goals? We have a great squad right now that isn't achieving their goals!
We don’t have a great squad, unfortunately. I’m sure we have a better squad than they look under Ole but they’re absolutely miles off that squad Zidane inherited at Madrid. We’re also in a far more competitive league.

I don’t know how anyone can see Zidane as anything other than a huge gamble and I’m sick and fecking tired of taking punts on managers with question marks hanging over them.

I will never take Zidane, Spanish has only 3 main clubs. Team wave their white flags and surrender without pulling in much fight. I don't think Zidane can take this bunch of prima donna to prime time.

We said that after Moyes, then after LVG, then again after Jose.

We're just going round in circles.
And I would say that they were all better than the previous manager, none of them were perfect and they all reached their limits but I wouldn't say that they were worse than their predecessors.

I think you are seriously underestimating both the squad we possess and Zidane's managerial ability. He'd be no more of a punt than Chelsea took on Tuchel.

I personally don’t think anyone would be better, but I think there’s 2 or 3 out there now likely to be attainable who’d be good enough to title challenge with us

Same was true after Fergie, Moyes, LvG & Jose. We just didn’t get them for some reason

This is the problem with us. We are reactive and whenever we need a new manager, no outstanding candidates are available. Last season Tuchel, Poch, and Nagelsmann were on the move and we were nowhere in the picture. We have no plan other than to fully back a manager and give him time. Contrast that with City giving Pellegrini the boot when they were top to get in the one they wanted.

Ole would have resigned tomorrow morning if we lived in an ideal world. But let's face it, he isn't about to throw away a 20 million payoff for the sake of integrity. Neither would you or I.

Genuinely have no idea. It’s a fecking nightmare. We keep sticking with managers that clearly aren’t good enough while the ones who might be are snapped up by other clubs.

Conte’s done it at a few different clubs in different leagues. And Italy were great under him too. That’s impressive. He seems to be a bit of a tool though.

It's pretty easy to argue that the second time Zidane won the league, Barca had a better squad (and a better start to the season before he joined). I think it's fashionable to downplay what he achieved there, a bit like people did with Pep at Barca before he moved on and it became clear he actually was brilliant. I'm not saying he's at Peps level but the point is that we simply don't know until he does go somewhere else and at some point some top club will take that punt even if it's not us.

You are right with one thing, he's unproven at another club, but Ole had proven he was shit even at a relegation level or championship club before he came here so Zidane seems like far less of a risk to me!

Our biggest issue is our obsession with seeing managers as some god given three or four year appointment that we have to persist with even at the worst of times rather than taking these risks and being ruthless as soon as it becomes clear they won't work out. If it was the latter than hiring Zidane would be a far less risky proposition.

Is it too much to ask for a coach who can improve our style of play? Some pressing and some pass and move football....is it that difficult?

I do agree in part, but none of those previous managers had a squad as good as this.

There must be at least a handful of decent managers who could be brought in to hopefully save our season?

He lost me after the Europa League final debacle.

I would actually take Van Gaal back over Ole at this point. He at least didn't mind pissing off big names.

And likely will stay for two years. We basically need the club structure that Liverpool and City have before we make that appointment. But that takes time. And we haven't got that and haven't chosen to set up the club that way either. Deeply frustrating.

Madrid have won 3 league titles in the last 10 years, 2 of them won by Zidane.

Shambolic in the league.

Managers like Pep, Tuchel and Klopp have an identifiable style of play, which you can imagine them bringing with them to a new club. The players are almost secondary to the system. What’s Zidane’s style of play? It seemed to be getting your eleven best players on the pitch and letting them do their thing. Which is all very good with that Madrid squad but an approach that clearly isn’t working with ours.

I’d even take Brendan Rodgers over Zidane. He’s another manager who has been able to implement his own style at a few different clubs.

Sadly, Ole is not good enough. But Zidane? Why on Earth would we appoint him? He's one of the best players ever. But as a manager, on what basis would he be the answer?!

Which makes it even more infuriating we've missed out an all the obvious choices that were available. Dortmund with Rose, Bayern with Nagelsmann, Chelsea with Tuchel.... All acted quickly. All we ever do is wait and watch when it's been obvious for a long time that Ole is nowhere near good enough.

Probably Ten Haag could be convinced. Plays some great progressive football with Ajax.

Or go and get Conte. Can't get worse.

Zidane won 2 league titles at Madrid and 3 champions league. Don't see how that is a huge gamble. I

Some people are just desperate.

While I somewhat agree with the point that cup runs can be spawny, having ridiculous consistency in cups is actually more impressive. And since there's usually many cups and one league, it also means more trophy opportunities

It’s a weird one.

I’ve been pretty supportive of Ole since he took over - he has done well with the squad, its gone from shite to pretty dynamite. integrated a couple of academy players. We got successive top 4 finishes, deep runs in cups. But obviously big disappointments at the business end of those runs.

I dont and never have really bought the stuff about attacking patterns of play, we scored a lot of goals last season.

However, this summer was a big step up in terms of recruitment and expectation. Two cold blooded world class winners and a dynamo whizz kid assist king come in. I think this is the first season in a while we genuinely have a squad that should have the quality and depth to challenge on all fronts. I hoped that Ole would kick on now we have the last pieces in the jigsaw squad wise.

But everything has gone as bad as it could so far.

We have regressed massively performance and result wise despite the uplift in squad. We dont press. We have no off the ball organisation. The defence is worse despite Varane coming in. We are wide open every game despite persisting with the 4231. The 4231 isnt working. I dont think he is big enough to bench bruno, pogba, ronaldo so keeps shoehorning them all into the same 11. Pogba is woeful in a deep position. He keeps one of rashford, greenwood and sancho out on the left. All 3 of them want to be the main man and have little defensive work rate. The result is we are playing with 8 men when out of possession. Mcfred dont work as the deeper 2. We make the same mistakes in team selection and tactically every game - we kept playing out from the back against villa and today against Leicester even though we would shit the bed and lose the ball in a terrible position every time. We have lots of players in horrible form.

Why are DVB and sancho festering on the bench when Mcfred and Lingard keep getting game time?

This run we are on is worrying and the upcoming fixtures are horrid. We are 4 points off the top but Personally, I think this will grow substantially given our form and upcoming fixtures.

This said. I also have reservations about a new manager - who is available? Will they have money? If they want to play 4231 they will need two new holding midfielders. Or more likely, just a change of system to get more out of what we have.

This is shocking atm. His job is surely under pressure.

there's simply no excuses to serve up this dross. He took over a mess from Mourinho and it took a while to clean it up, but this is actually a pretty good squad now. Simply impossible to hide behind those excuses anymore.

I think Ole did well to get us back on track, but he was never going to be good enough to take the next step. The club needs to be ruthless here, but I fully expect them to sit on their hands until the season is lost.
