    I’d wouldn’t mind trying

    De Gea
    Bissaka…..Bailey……Lindelof……Shaw
    Matic/Fred
    Beek……Bruno
    Sancho……Cavani……Rashford

Not sure Matic will have the legs for this lot so maybe Fred? Who’s a bit more energetic and quicker around the pitch.

I’d like to see Fred in a more advanced role similar to the position he assumed with Brazil
Fred holds with Fabinho for Brazil, doesn't he?

Irrespective, and other than the ability to press, what does he offer in a more advanced role?

Will be a very intriguing line up.

"Legs" surely means McFred, but could also mean Cavani and or Rashford.

However, we'll need the legs even more against Liverpool.

His vision for that Neymar assist was sublime. His passing range was also significantly better in that game than it has ever been for us.

Could be a number of factors but I believe we aren’t making the best use of him because we don’t have a Fabinho type holding midfielder. Fred could offer more attacking intent when our attacking players are not delivering. But we can’t really explore this dimension of his game without a solid DM.

At the end of the day Fred is good enough to play for the Brazilian first team so he should be good enough to play a key role for us.

Knowing Ole he'll pick tomorrows team with an eye on the scouse game. He'll play ronaldo the full 90 mins and bench him for sunday in favour of cavani.

Seeing tonight's games makes me realize how below par our football is compared to some of the sides on display today. And for the last four years some people have been harping on how patterns, formations, tactics, transitions are seemingly myths.

Im in dubai for t20, i think ill pass on watching united games in the next few weeks, my eyes are even more dry from all the sand. Hopefully in a few, ole will be packing his bags. Ive never been one to say i hope we lose so he can go, but i have started to think that. Before i get jumped on, it makes me sick to the stomach thinking this, the guy makes me cringe now. I just want him to go so i can still adore his playing career here.

They naturally set up like Leicester did this past weekend. If we don’t switch it up, they will take us apart.

I think those sarcastic and mocking in tone “patterns of play” posts will be few and far between now.

Get ready. Every side with a savvy manager will come at us the exact same way now. Press our back four high then sit back if it doesn’t come off and wait for a break straight down the middle of the pitch. Up to us to adapt or die now.

Gotta be this. Best we’ve played in the last while was first half against Everton. Cavani and McFred are a must. Leave Pogba out. Maybe he’ll come back in with a point to prove against Liverpool? Can’t deal with walking around losing 50/50s and looking generally disinterested.

Ronaldo, if he plays like he did against Villa or Leicester then it’s gotta be the bench.

Don't want to rush Rashford back too soon and I'm hoping he starts vs Liverpool.

Ronaldo on the bench Sunday ? There’s more chance of me sitting there

Dropping Ronaldo would be madness in my opinion. He's a different breed in the CL and won us the game against Villarreal. This idea that we need a CF who presses is nonsense, he's never done that in his entire career - on top of that theres no way ole drops him.

Not that I will ever bet against us, but the bookies are really generous this time if you are neutral, 4.2x both draw and Atalanta victory, worth a punt.
I voted 1:2 initially but I think we will nick a victory, 1:0 or 2:1 Man Utd

Cavani has gone from underrated to significantly overrated in a very short period of time on here.

He wasn't even that good vs Everton and him pressing on his own doesn't turn us into a pressing machine.

If Ole wants to drop Ronaldo, I'd play Greenwood up top and go with Rashford/Sancho out wide.

    But Ronaldo is likely starting.

Just win please. The performance likely won't be good, but we can't lose this. Lose this, I think we're crashing out in the group stages again.

Yeah but some believe in just beating their chest with undeniable backing and won't accept there is a distinct lack of all the above still in evidence after 3 years

I want to see energy and pressing in midfield.

I’d personally play McTominay, VdB and Bruno and have Bruno a little deeper that almost a second striker. Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho up front. Give Ronaldo a little rest.

Pogba needs to be benched and sold in January and whatever fee we get put towards someone like Rice in the summer.

I expect Ole to play the usual 4231 with McFred. Pogba might be dropped in favour of Rashford. Greenwood on the right. First of 2 huge games for Utd. Tonight is a must win really.

We need a lineup that is focused on winning the game in midfield.
Atalanta are 8th in Serie A and are playing away today (Sunday) so using some logic spouted on here, they will be tired. I don’t think so. Like all teams playing against us, they will be energised and press the hell out of our lazy midfield and defence. Pogba calls for change, well putting in a shift would be a start followed by Ole growing a pair and bollocking some of them. The defence keep backing off players instead of tackiling them. If we lose this one, the shit should hit the fan.
They'll be looking at us saying "they're sixth in the league, have only one win in five, always concede, and are soft in the middle". They aren't fearing us at all. We need a win here or qualifying for the next round gets a little bit harder. We also need the win for morale, players and fans alike.

My prediction is 1-4 (Rashford, Muriel, Zapata, Ilicic, Koopmeiners)

Why do United will suffer 4 goals?

No balanced team, in the mid, will be McTominay-Pogba against de roon- freuler-pasalic-malinovsky (2 against 4)

Want to believe we will get a response today but watching the game last night, we look like a Sunday league team compared. I see no way that we don’t get overrun, outfought, outworked.

Think this will a painful one and another nail in the coffin for OGS. 1-3.

If Atalanta just follow the established recipe of being deep, structured, hard-working and effective on the counter and/or set pieces, they have a great chance of winning the game - as do any team we play.
