A pretty bad decision this I think

Football Manager Touch 2022 will only be available on Nintendo Switch. There will be no version of the game available on Steam, the Epic Store, the App Store or Google Play. Anyone who wants to play a streamlined version of FM anywhere other than Switch will still be able to do so, but the game won’t be called ‘Touch’.

For PC players, the Xbox Edition will be available to purchase via the Microsoft Store or via Game Pass, while tablet players will be able to stream that game to their devices via Microsoft’s xCloud streaming service (which is available to anyone with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription). The full range of options is set out in the platform matrix below.

One positive about Football Manager Touch which was revealed by the data was that many of our fans ‘dipped in’ to Touch to take advantage of Versus Mode (which allows players to test their FM squad in head-to-head online matches against other managers). As a result of this, we are working to implement Versus Mode in Football Manager 2022, although this won’t be introduced until early next year (as there’s quite a bit of development work required and we didn’t want to delay the game’s release).

Removing games from the FM line-up is not something we do lightly (or often) and when we do it’s only ever to improve the things for the majority of our players. I know that the decision to limit the availability of Touch will not be popular with a section of FM fans, but I also know that it’s best for both the studio and the wider FM community.

Cheers,

Miles

Never played it so honestly don’t mind that call. Guessing Covid prevented FM and FMT properly converging already tbh.

Given the devices people can consume FM on and how tablets have gotten so powerful, the eventual merger is inevitable. Only the amount of leagues should really cap possibilities.

Looking forward to this. Thought the last Fm was the worse one yet. That to go with the last Fifa being an equal abomination. Maybe it’s covid effect… expecting much better. Doesn’t seem to be much info on new features though.

Nah, FM13 was the worst. The transition from a sleek, quick UI in FM12 to a clusterfeck FM13. The game had huge problems too, with the lack of shots in games only being fixed until the last patch but even then it wasn't right. FM21 is decent the only major criticism I have is as usual the terrible AI squad building which makes the game mundane after a few seasons.

Haha fair that. Was 2013 the one where the purpleness started?
Yeah there isn’t much wrong with the match engine in this one. It’s the other stuff that does my nut. I feel like AI wise this is the dumbest FM has ever been which is bizarre when you think about it.

I can't understand that personally. FM21 is by far the best game in the series IMO. Just the quality of life and UX improvements make the game so much better than previous iterations.

You see every year people come out with the same "it's the same game" criticisms but it's always essentially going to be the same platform/foundation. As long as they keep improving the game every year, and they do, I will keep buying and playing.

I think for the most part every FM iteration is the best in the series. I think if you look at it objectively in terms of additional features, improvements to the match engine etc then they largely get better not worse. There may be a couple of exceptions but not many. If you go back and play an FM from some time ago there's no comparison.

I think it's only when you think there's gonna be large scale changes that it's a disappointment and then a subsequent overreaction. They're not going to reinvent the wheel from year to year because the market is already cornered and this is what the market expects. So it takes many years to see drastic differences. You can argue it's not great value but it depends how you buy it I suppose.

I think further refinements to the match engine and statistics are obvious areas to improve because the first is very directly related to enjoyment and realism on match day and the second is where football is heading. Not sure we're gonna see much on the former in this iteration.

Im never one to moan about same ‘insert thing’. I just thought the squad building and the bugs in this one were way too much and too noticeable. It probably doesn’t help that I’m one of those fm players who pays a lot of attention to the finer details.
They made the game through covid though so obviously didn’t have as clean as product as normal. They’ve basically admitted as much. The match engine was very good though, but it definitely wasn’t the strongest fm of the series. I expect this years to be far superior…

It would be nice if they found a way to make FM22 a little more challenging. FM21 too often boils down to insert tactic, patiently wait for familiarity, profit. It's way too simple to achieve the improbable. It feels like if you have good players, not even great players for the league you can mount a title challenge. If you have players that are good for the league below then you can still finish mid table or better.

Obviously it should be more easily done than in the real world as you want to take clubs on a journey but it feels like the difficulty should be up a notch or two. It would be amazing if there were two options on the game, the default difficulty as the game would be, then a brutally realistic one.

Lost interest in FM tbf. It's never anything new, its the same old with a new skin and some tactics added. The game takes to long and press conferences etc are boring and tiresome.

Also the transfer updates and other updates are way to late. You start playing the game in Nov, in Jan its already outdated with the new transfers.

It's true they don't add much, that's fair criticism. However the others I'm not sure about.

You don't have to do press conferences. The assistant can go to them with little detriment. If anything they should be fleshed out so we actually want to do them but it's not like you're forced to do something you hate. Most areas of the game can be customised to do more of what you want and less of what you don't.

If you're already in a save come January your save will look nothing like the real world anyway and even if you start a new one the AI takes over and does random stuff. I don't think ongoing perfection with the database is worth much development time.

Weird they didn't announce the DYR as a headline feature. Possibly the biggest change they've made for for years in terms of impact. I'm ecstatic becasue it makes the type of saves I do so much better and 'realistic'.

Agreed. If this works I may actually buy this years edit....actually, who am I kidding I'll buy it like I have bought it the last 15 years or so (likely more) running.

It will induce me to actually do a long term US National Team save though. Once the current guys (Pulisic/Gio/Adams) started retiring it lost its fun as there were never players close to them coming through.

It will make the MLS an interesting proposition for once IMO

Will make me consider lots of different/weird countries now.

Fantastic news

Same. I wonder if this will finally mean that once you get a properly strong side in the shit leagues I often play in, that other clubs will eventually strengthen and provide a little bit of a challenge (as well as chipping in with the coefficient). Looking forward to giving it a try.

Just what I've noted so far, the ME, largely the most important thing, looks exactly the same.

7 corners to one side in the opening 30 minutes, AI sits their entire back line inside their penalty box.

It seems a bit like FM21 again. Lots of QoL improvements, but not fixing the issues that have plagued the ME since 18.
Only 21 had a ton of bugs.

Dynamic youth ratings is so much bigger than any of the shite changes they’ve promoted as a headline.

They didn't turn out to be that wide of the mark
Were they not 4 or 5 days off, from recollection? I'm hearing it'll be sometime next week; probably Monday or Tuesday.

I suppose, I probably won't have much time to play it before the weekend, so may hold off even if it is released. Though, the temptation would likely get the better of me!

I agree with this. Playing any old Football Manager is massively hamstrung by missing quality of life changes, particular any of those prior to FM14, when you essentially had to learn the theory behind programming the tactics sliders. The game is always inevitably a better play if you wait for the post-Christmas patch, because the number of players is always going to document a lot of bugs.

I just buy every few years now and play longer term games over a period of a few real years. I'll be tempted to play again this year, after not starting a proper new save since FM17.

What does that mean mate? Some on Twitter seem to think it'll be today or tomorrow!
It's a EULA update, but last few years that update happened for full release, and it's a lot different to all the usual steamDB updates that have been happening the last few weeks.

From Miles' tweet this morning and the posts on the SI forum from the staff today, they are getting my hopes up!
