Spot on from Scholesy. Yesterday was further proof of how bad we are, and a lot of the giddiness is just more evidence of how low our fanbase’s expectations have become.

We were playing a must-win CL game in a shit group, against an injury ravaged side whose wage bill is a small fraction of ours and whose players would struggle to make our bench, let alone our first 11. We managed to go 2-0 down inside 30 minutes.

To act like yesterday was proof that things are ok or even improving is really more desperation than anything else at this point.

We lost 1 in 6 last season v the 3 top sides he cried about last night
How many did we win and how did that to compare to other top 6?

I’ll save you the trouble. We had 11 points out of 30, which is the second worst record of the top 6 excluding Spurs (who had 10 points). As always with the Ole-first, United-second crowd, the expectations are sooo low. (We didn’t lose many games!)

Don’t cherry-pick stats. You’ll look silly.

What truths? All he kept rambling about was the first half and Liverpool. He didn’t discuss anything
He was clearly alluding to the fact we were a coached mess, bereft of ideas and all over the place. He even brazenly said he doesn't think United will challenge under Ole.

Is that not competing with the top sides and not being destroyed by them? You can frame it the other way that Klopp, Pep and Tuchel combined only beat Ole once last year. It’s how you look at it.
You can’t praise Scholes for speaking the truth then he’s but away the fact we do compete with these sides and they don’t run through us. You can’t ignore that fact

Has anyone suggested this?

I don’t think he alluded to anything, that’s just you super imposing your thoughts on Scholes. He actually said very little other than Liverpool will beat us x50 times. That’s what made his analysis so ridiculous. There just wasn’t any. If he thought we were poorly coached then come out and say it.
He can be critical of Utd, nobody is saying otherwise but that was 20 minutes of rambling last night. He couldn’t piece a thought together

Yeah Scholes is a poor pundit but I do think he's correct on this one. We're almost always extremely open. Sure 3-2s are great entertainment but it's not how you win titles. Tbh last night, we could have been 3-0 up HT with an inch or two different here and there. Other nights we could have lost 4-0.

Over the course of a season we need to be able to control games and therefore results better. Currently, we're more reminiscent of Keegan's Newcastle side than Fergie's United.

He stated that if United setup the way they did against Atalanta they would get pummelled, which is a fair point. He also rightly singled out the midfield and in particular how disjointed and isolated it was, as well as the space behind the attackers who didn't work hard enough to track back. Granted he's never been the most articulate of pundits, but I think his rant was a little more fleshed out than simply claiming Liverpool would pummel us. Those issues he singled out had been persistent since the start of the season (and even before then).

Go to any Ole thread and look at posts since yesterday.
I have, I don’t remember anyone saying that things are now okay. I remember people just enjoying an incredible come back. Of course we still have a ton of problems that need addressing.

It wasn’t so much what Scholes said…it was more that he said it 60 seconds after the final whistle.

Then kept repeating himself. I don’t think any fan was thinking 60 seconds after the match…we are gonna win the league or CL.

But to be such a misery so soon after the whistle was ridiculous! Cheer up Paul, life is short.

Facts are we didn’t take enough points off them, and didn’t take enough points off the smaller teams either
And it’s happening again

scholes highlighting that if we play like that against Liverpool we’d be in trouble, I don’t think he is wrong

Pfffft. He's the one cherry picking stats? Scholesy said we'd be ripped apart against Liverpool or a City with that midfield. The poster you quoted simply made the pretty salient point that we haven't been in the recent past.

Scholes said that yesterday was exciting but if we attack like this against the better sides, we’d be ripped apart.

We won’t attack like that, or attack much, and we won’t get ripped apart. We won’t be competitive either because to me competitive means trying to actually win a game, not cowering and ending up with 11 points out of 30.

So when you cite 1 loss against the top 6 as a rebuke, that doesn’t address Scholes’s point, which was if we play like yesterday we would be ripped apart.

He was spot on in regards to the performance against Atalanta.

One of the best ever players to play for our club. If he’s concerned, there’s reason to it.

Took the words from my mouth. I was just about the bump the thread saying the same thing re: his comments the other night but of course, the Top Reds knew better and thought Scholes was just being negative…

As I said post-Atalanta - Scholes hit the nail on the head. The Atalanta comeback just papered over the cracks.

It was weird to see. Scholes was talking nothing but sense and loads were acting like he was just being a miserable so-and-so. No, he was being realistic.

The majority of us were at least secretly thinking what Scholes said in their head.

I certainly was, anyways.

Does his criticism of our performances extend to the manager though? Or is he still stopping short of criticizing his mate?

I think the majority of the fanbase did (I hope, otherwise there's no help for us). It was obvious for anyone to see.
Only the muppets jumped on Scholes. They should take their result-biased views and watch MUTV if they have a problem with the slightest criticism of our play.

Scholes is clueless but he was right on this occasion.

This moron predicted Chelsea to have the weakest defence of the top 4 clubs this season. How’s that working out Paul?

He really is not clueless and you're the moron here - sorry had to be said. He's been pretty spot on on most of the things. And also, pundits get it wrong sometimes.

He was 150% correct with the skepticism concerning the result in the UCL. Exactly as he described a slow first half against the top opposition will cause too much of a strain to pull it back.

He sounded like he was playing a character last night. Had obviously decided he was going to be negative against us.

Then when we turned it round he didn't have the brains to change his script and just ploughed on making himself look foolish.

He was not speaking any truth he was just reading the script he had already prepared

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Hilariously out of context.
" Scholes finished by saying that Jorginho and Kante are the reason why Chelsea have such a good defensive record this season [three league goals conceded after seven fixtures] because they protect the back four. "
Kante has only started 3 games in the Prem this season and we concerned in 2 of them.

If Scholes is crediting our clean sheets this season to Kante, he is talking out of his arse.

Scholes was saying Chelsea don't have a great defense on paper. He's not wrong is he?
