We will now rely on another 90 minutes from him against a team that will hog the ball

You create chances for him and he will score.

This second goal was one of those eye-openers when you realise you're dealing with something 'better'. Nobody else does this in this particular match with how poor we were and how crucial it was.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 9 goals in 11 games for Man Utd. Unbelievable.

Anyone else and you'd be thinking: 'You can't expect this over a whole season.' Yet last season Ronaldo scored 36 times in 44 games, which works out at the same ratio (if my rusty maths is correct).

36 years old. Remarkable.

This guy is lethal, only needs one or two chances. Imagine if the team could create a few chances a game?

Your rusty maths is correct haha, that is the same ratio.

Looks like Ronnie is heading for another 36 goal season (minimum) at this rate, assuming he plays at least 44 matches.

Like most United fans are saying on social media Ronny should be the captain of this club. It's a joke he isn't it's not even funny anymore most people know he's the captain so just give him the armband. It's actually hindering Maguire and his performances. Maguire needs to focus solely on his own game as he's making 2-3 mistakes per game.

Totti was Roma captain for so long playing as the striker and Ronny is just an inspirational and leader if not more.

the only reason we have a slight chance in the Manchester Derby is because of CR7.. he's the GOAT. If we can keep things tight and don't end up 5-0 at half-time because of individual sloppiness from the likes of Pogba and individual defensive mistakes from the likes of Maguire he can make the difference. Scoring a header against City's midgets for example, moment of magic goal like last night, free-kick etc you always have a chance with Ronaldo..

Without his goals in the CL we’d be sat bottom of the table on one point in a group like we’re in. I mean he’s basically keeping Ole in a job a little longer at the moment.

The technique for that goal is just immense. God alone knows how many hours he must have spent practising those volleys. Most other players in the world are just thrashing that and hoping, but even though he was moving and probably not expecting such an odd pass, he's pulled out a textbook body shape, and smashed it perfectly just where the keeper can't reach.

If he was playing on more functional teams, he’d likely hit his Madrid numbers again.

Great post. Totally agree. So talented, so influential and so brilliant.
At a time when being a Manchester United fan is not that much fun, CR7 makes it all worthwhile. The man is a phenomenon and I admire him for coming back. Would have been so easy to have gone anywhere else. But thankfully, there is an emotional bond.

Exactly. Eyes on the ball like lasers, brain doing thousands of calculations, body perfectly balanced and most importantly knee directly above the ball. Perfection.

My god I remember Ronald barely managing a step over

Ronaldo should do a YouTube series on how he lives. Every single aspiring footballer (and probably even every pro) on the planet would subscribe to it..

Did anybody notice how edge the other players were celebrating with Ronaldo? Not in a disrespectful way, just a ‘what will happen if I touch this god?’ Kind of way..

Anyone heard the pre match meal story when he first returned? Every United player was looking what Ronaldo had on his plate, and not one chose anything Ronaldo wouldn’t eat. Even multimillionaire untouchable superstar footballers look up to this guy.

He is fecking amazing. I keep telling myself, we are too shite and we'll ruin him to the point of not scoring but it's Ronaldo. The man never stops scoring.
The equalizer surprised me just as I expected it

We haven’t been crossing the ball well. If we improve that, Cristiano will punish our opponents. In particular, while Shaw provided him with a great cross two weeks ago, his crosses generally haven’t been good.

Plus he had two goals marginally ruled out for offside (Liverpool and Tottenham). Considering how badly we play and how few chances we create for him the stats are pretty amazing.

If we had a more tactically astute manager who could play a more inspiring midfield than McFred who knows how many goals he could get.

Id love to see us try something like this for a few games (although will never happen under Ole)

-----Sancho------Ronaldo------Cavani--
-----------------------Bruno----------------
---------Van De Beek-----Matic---------

What more superlatives can you say about him, if the team around him was more “at it” or we had a manager that could take us that next step we’d be frightening.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but both goals vs. Atalanta yesterday were scored in extra time:

45' +1 Cristiano Ronaldo
90' +1 Cristiano Ronaldo

Any stat nerds out there want to find out how often a player does this?

Well, Ronaldo has the record for most stoppage time goals in the CL (8). Messi has 7. That's all I have

We're wasting their talent and potentially final few years with Ole in charge

Absolutely loving seeing Ronaldo back and scoring goals for United.

It's like some kind of great dream - so long as you just focus on CR7's contribution and try to forget the teams overall performances. :D

Brain speaking: I Wouldn't be shocked to see Ronny start on the bench against City and come on in the second half for 30 minutes if it's 0-0 to grab the winner. It's a quick turn around playing 12:30 on a Saturday and he used up a lot of energy helping us win the last game. We have to keep him away from the "red zone" as an injury to Ronny would feck up our whole season.

Heart speaking: BUT then I'm thinking Ronny is on 798 career goals.. he will know that for sure and he will be extra motivated and up for it to get his 800th career goal in the Manchester Derby with the World watching that's how he rolls he writes his own scripts.. plus he knows what the Manchester Derby is all about having played/scored in so many and how important it is to the fans as he genuinely loves the club (which you can't say the same for a lot of our players). if Cavani plays with him upfront he should be ok to conserve his energy for the counter-attacks as long as United keep it tight and don't make stupid individual mistakes like against Liverpool. Plus City will be terrified of him after all his recent exploits and late goals so will always have 2-3 players around him which will leave space for other players plus his aerial ability at corners will be a massive threat to City's midgets. Fear factor.

Guardiola on Ronaldo: Manchester City must stop 'one of the greatest' to beat Manchester United, win derby

Pep and Citeh are bricking it already.. come on! Let's hammer them!

I hope people get realistic. City are not Atalanta. Ronaldo is not 26 anymore. One player won't be enough for beating City.
You need like 11 strong and a top manager to do so, guess how many we have, and our manager is below average as well, so let's be realistic and hope for the better.
Let's not forget we have terrible, terrible defense, so they may put us on a result if they have a day.

We can all learn from the best. And in my opinion, Ronaldo is the best of the very best.
People keep mentioning his age, which is understandable.
But it is his utter professionalism, dedication and constant drive to keep improving.
Rashford and Greenwood in particular need to learn from the way he operates.
