I think that's harsh on Lewis. Losing to Rosberg, motivated him to take his skills to the next level. Against Vettel, he won through consistency and being perfect 99% of the time. It didn't matter he had non-threatening teammate, as he still had to contend with a 4 time world champion. Pre-2016, Lewis would make plenty of mistakes and was far from the perfect driver. Granted, he has made a few errors this year, but his consistency of scoring points makes him a complete driver and has kept him in the title hunt. The same argument was thrown around about Rosberg's WC win but tbf only thing that it helped Lewis was that Rosberg decided to retire because of it and he got Bottas in the team who was brought in as a second driver and not one who will challenge Lewis.
If he does lose, it's not the end of the world. Maybe he'll come back next year a even better driver. Either way, Lewis will always be that guy who can rack up points consistently over the course of a season.
