I know the defeat to Watford was atrocious. However one positive that I noticed and something that hopefully the next manager will utilise is the the great interplay between DVB and how his creativity and ability to pass into space turns Sancho into a different player.

1) VDB, lots of arguing about what position he is. He can play a 6,8, or 10. Today he showed he’s great as a deeplaying playmaker and gets stuck in with tackles and interceptions but has the quickness of thought and vision to play defence splitting passes from deeper positions.. like Pogba but with better work rate and less of a defensive liability but of course won’t do the spectacular things that Pogba occasionally does. I thought he was bit like Verratti today, early days but if he plays in the position he played in today regularly that’s probably what we can expect. Most of our attacks will start from him.

2) Not had much of a chance, when he has played been played on the left. I’ll be honest playing bad on the left never made sense for me as I assumed he was just a modern day forward who could play across the front 3 and deep down dreamed of being central. But seeing him today in the 2nd half until the red card I realised he is the epitome of a system winger, actually surprised Pep didn’t put a buy back clause.
As soon as DVB, another who thrives in footballing teams, came on Sancho looked like an £80m player. With passes played into space he was running onto balls and whipping in crosses, with support to his left pass and cut inside.

Honestly think those two, plus Greewood and Amad (who didn’t play) are the future of United and really hope the Glazers hire a manager who gives them the chances. The potential for great football is there. The first 25 mins of the 2nd half is actually the first time I’ve seen anything positive in a footballing sense.

Yeah, a glimmer of light in the darkness of the lake. I’d like to see it happen a few times before I dive in but yeah.

Yeah both smart players. The next manager will have a hell of a squad to work with tbh.

Definitely an exciting prospect with attack in the future. Just need to get some depth on midfield and we should be good. Yes I know our defense has been poor, but I hypothesize that it is significantly affected by a lack of real midfield

For me VDB needs matic.

He can't play getting covered by Fred or Mctominay.

It's the same with Pogba.

They need that protection to go do their thing - protection none of McFred can give.

The next manager needs a proper CDM here, not these CM that can tackle because we have that already for a whilst and they can be upgraded later.

Imagine this kid with 5 or 6 games in the first team. Brilliant today. Breath of fresh air to see a midfielder passing the ball forward, into spaces where players can run into and case issues, not sideways shite. Whoever is coaching McTominay how to play midfield needs sacking tonight too.

Cultured players play well together. No surprise to people not called OGS.

We seem to have a high amount of players who would be quality, BUT with these unspecified missing players around them.

We've heard it for Pogba, DVB, Fred, McTom, Ronaldo, Sancho, Bruno, Maguire etc.

At some point we need to buy this magical player who seemingly unlocks the rest.

Jesus. One goal today after being MIA for god knows how and suddenly he's the answer to all our problems. For the final fuc king time this squad isn't good enough to win the league.

Rash - Ronaldo - Sancho

Fernandes - van De Beek
------------ Matic

Obviously Matic needs upgrading on but it will do for now.

Typical overreaction after a few good moments against an open team that were enjoying themselves against ten men. Some nice passes and plays, let’s not forget the horror shows both have had since they came. Remember Solskjær when he won ten games in a row and everything was nice? Odds are van de Beek won’t make many of those passes to Sancho against competent opposition next weekend and this thread looks silly. The leaders that is, not the team in 18th like Watford were before this game.

Complete overreaction to 35 mins of football however I can’t say I blame you.

5-0 , 4-1 depressing.

Not about the goal. Fact you think it’s the about goal shows you don’t really understand the discussion. Also his not been MIA, he’s never been given more than 2 games because we have a manager who prefers McFred

MIA? he's barely been given a kick. the OP highlighted his ability to knit play, initiate patterns of play, intercept, tackle, etc. yet you turn into a "1 goal doesnt make him the answer to all our problems".

Put your agendas to one side and try and be objective

True, but, "some nice passes" might be understating it, don't you think? He flat out put multiple through balls through which put Ronnie one-on-one with the goalkeeper on a number of occasions. This isn't just cute passing, it's freaking chance creation.

Give him his due. A goal and some brilliant creative incisive passing.

I think the point is, it's in his locker. Fred doesn't have that pass. McTom has a pass like that once every lunar eclipse.

Nope. Actually was when it was 11 Vs 11 and looked like United were getting back into the game.

Don't be pedantic. So you made the thread on the basis of one performance rather than one goal. And you don't like the phrase MIA? Ole has his head up his arse? McFred is a dumpster fire? So what? Either way he's not been playing for a considerable amount of time and you can't draw some absurd conclusion after one game in which we were embarrassed by Watford.

A long way to go, I think. A few flickers but again Sancho didn't have the best time out there and that's the first 45 minutes of football from VDB that was more than "he did okay" since...well, a long time ago. Maybe the CL in his first season.

Yeah true but still hope the next manager at least gives them a proper opportunity

They are the only 2 players in our squad who are capable of build up play.
