I know, I know. Trophies and all. But I don't think one penalty kick should make that much of a difference. Under Ole was the only time I genuinely enjoyed watching us and would look forward to the games each week. He got me liking the squad again. That never happened under the rest. Even when we would go on a good run under Jose or LVG, the football was dreadful. Jose threw his toys out of the pram and moved to protect himself the moment things got tough and LVG's transfer record was dreadful.
Then you must have not watched all our games under Ole?

All play fecking depressing football. Boring, defensive and negative football. Under all 4 managers some of the games cured my insomnia.

1. Jose
2. Ole
3. LVG
4. Moyes

Van Gaal's team played the worst football apart from 4 games. Won an FA Cup.

Ole had a couple of runs where we looked like we were on the brink of being a proper side (when he first came and when we came back from the first Lockdown). Did some good things, brought Mason through, signed Bruno, Rashford became a 20 goal a season winger under him a few other bits probably.

Mourinho won a couple of trophies, looked like a decent side.

Moyes team had a decent first half against Bayern Munich.

1. Mourinho
2. Ole
3. Van Gaal
4. Moyes

LVG - 1 trophy. His football was dull as dishwater but he was the last Manchester United manager to understand that Manchester United should be about Sex Dominance and not Sex Masochism.
Mourinho - 3 trophies. Right man, wrong time. Should have received the backing Solkjaer got.
Moyes - 1 trophy. Out of his depth but binned swiftly enough before he could do more damage
Solkjaer - 0 trophies. Much will be written about how this pied piper managed to convince everyone that his clueless, beta football was in any way 'the united way'. Spunked away money and lowered the standards to unprecedented levels. Wasted several seasons.

In the league-1)Ole,2)Jose,3)LVG and 4)Moyes
in the cups-1)Jose,2)LVG,3)Ole,4)Moyes
Overall I would probably put Ole ahead of Jose. Our consistency in the league, our signings in the transfer window and our steady improvement over 2 years(until this season) probably puts Ole ahead of Jose.

Solskjaer's issues are all tactical, and I have no issue with anyone thinking he's well out of his depth at this level, but he's definitely left a more solid platform than any other United manager has since Ferguson. The club seemed absolutely toxic when Mourinho left, the squad was pulling in several different directions, he'd alienated many players and so on.

The job is better now than at any other times Moyes was appointed, by a long way too. The next manager is walking into a dressing room with better characters, less deadwood, more depth in key areas, good young talent and solid players brought in. The next manager doesn't need an overhaul, they might just need one or two starters and that's all. I feel like a lot of the anger at Ole has been so vociferous that people have had to go beyond him just being "tactically inept" and start criticising the "shit squad", "awful signings" etc.. I think that's unfair, I think Ole did everything right at United off the pitch and even though that will never win you trophies, it might win the next guy trophies.

As I said though, Ole did a lot of the hard work off the pitch and the next manager has something solid to build off. No more radical changes in direction are necessary, just an improvement tactically may be enough for this squad to start winning things. Other managers were detrimental off the pitch, which is why United ended up with Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Di Maria, Bailly, Falcao, Valdes, Mkhitaryan and so on, the alienation of Shaw, the treatment of Pogba. The squad now is in a much better place and Solskjaer deserves credit for that. Hopefully the next manager can add a couple, improve tactically and take this squad to winning trophies.

Your username is quite amusing on it's own, but what you wrote about David Moyes made me

1) Jose: won the Europa and Carling cups; best statistics results wise

2) Van Gaal: won the FA cup; had a clear playing style and identity; some good performances against the big teams

3) Ole: that night in Paris; set a record for going unbeaten away

4) Moyes: won a shield

Agree with that actually. Ignore what I said previously. I think people are making a lot of choices out of anger & frustration but in time the dust will settle and you will be spot on

Impressive how people always goes after managers when We have players that are clearly not intrested in anything else but likes on social media and their own egos. And ofcourse that little thing called paycheck.

I'll go with the consensus here.

Mourinho
LVG
Ole
Moyes

Although, I'm tempted to put Ole above LVG simply because the recruitment under LVG was so bad, it took years to right the mess he left.

I feel whoever comes in to replace Ole has the least amount of rebuilding to do with this squad, so credit to him for that. But at the end of the day, you're measured on trophies as Manchester United manager.

Thr amount of rewriting history for LVG is funny. The guy bored us to the death. And to act like he didn't get to spend money is another stupid statement. His signings were the worse. He won a trophy which he was fortunate with the kind draw.

Very difficult tbh, I think Moyes took on a monumental task and was out his depth. Ole didn't have the credentials to be anywhere near the job. Mourinho I despise as a man, but he got some good results but things were insipid under him. LvG for me is the best footballing mind out of all them, about the only one where I could see a plan, with a decent style of play at least being aimed for. He just didn't have the personal. I think if he was backed he wld have done well. LvG with this squad could have been a different story. Not now obviously. To be honest they were all poor. It's the size of the task here. The squad, the club structure and personel have all been very bad.

It's Van Gaal, Mourinho, Moyes and finally Ole on the football side of things, unlike the vast majority I could actually see what Van Gaal was trying to do with us and I was actually gutted when he got the sack. Ole is last because while we were atrociously bad under Moyes, it never got the point where it all became a farce, like it did last night and two weeks ago.

As a human being Ole has to be best and Mourinho dead fecking last.

Ole's been the best for the club overall, with no trophies to show for it.

The rest were shit and left a mess behind, at least whoever comes in has a decent base to build off.

Mourinho barely edges it because of the minor trophies(which I don't really rate, but fair is fair). Likeability, nice goals and nail-biting comebacks made Ole's time in charge a lot more enjoyable as a fan, though. Had he managed to bounce back and finish top 4(and then get sacked in the summer) then he would unquestionably have been better than Mourinho. But the last couple of weeks/months have been too brutal to justify putting Ole first, imo.

How can you rank a guy who spent half a billion and won nothing, over two managers who achieved actual, tangible success.....trophies. It's crazy.

Trophies go down in history. In the future no one will care about a manager who "steadied a ship" or "got us to top 4's". Ole will go down in history for us as a player and continue to do so.

I'm with you.
The trophies under mou will not make up for poison he spread and the absolute apathy I felt for my beloved club during his tenure
I actively dislike the fact he got to manage our great club

I actually stopped watching United for the last few matches, something that not even Moyes managed to do on me.

In terms of likeness:

Van Gaal
Mourinho
Ole
Moyes

Ole and Moyes embodied hypocrisy, with arrogance and incompetence. The worst traits someone can have.

Only SAF could've won the league with that squad, plus Scholes retired and Moyes was only able to bring Fellaini in until january when we got Mata. Ole has spent more than 400m and has never got out of the group stage in CL. And we are currently 7th with negative goal difference. So yeah, Ole is worse than Moyes imo.
That squad was good enough to finish in the top four at least. The league was weak in 13/14, Moyes underachieved massively.

Yes - look how much time and money he spent in comparison. Not to mention all the unwanted records we've accumulated under him.
We've also accumulated some positive records. Not that the history book cares about those, but if you're going to mention the lows, who not be fair and include the highs?

Ole leaves us in the best position in terms of quality in the squad, ripe for a top class coach to meld it together into a proper team.

Moyes was doomed from the start, older squad with changes needed, high expectations, never going to get the time to make them, happy that he has done well at West Ham after how he was mocked.

LVG clearly the best coach, but he had to rip the squad up and too many of his transfers did not work out.

Mourinho the most successful, but also did a ton of damage, should never have been allowed to be the manager of Utd, despise the man.
